Toowoomba, Australia

8 years and 9 months after logging on April 25 2000 with a rumour post about the upcoming release of the FW waveserpent I've hit the next milestone of dakka posting.

20,000 posts.

3205 days, or 6.24 posts per day.

When I started dakka looked like this:
http://web.archive.org/web/20000510210820/pub1.ezboard.com/bdakkadiscussions.html

The site has changed many times.

Members, moderators and even owners have changed. (Where did Phanobi disappear to?)

But dakka is still the rough house it always was.
Some posters may scoff at the last comment, thinking moderation is too heavy. But dakka has always been a place where regular users help to keep the more boisterous posters in line and let the mods know if things are getting out of control and on the whole we do give a fair amount of leeway as long as dakka rule 1 is not violated. Which is a testament to Russ' original rules and the great site he set up.

Dakka has literally been a home away from home. Many members I've known for years, heard the stories of their lives (who's have thought a US state department employee could have so much fun on haloween in Guyana), and seen the families they raise (and even the odd student of a certain teacher from Chicago) but have never met the vast majority of them face to face. Some others I have, in my time in the UK and around Australia, usually at tournaments. Some have even become facebook BFFs (Dakka's Rabbi, derflaM, and Scott).

I know Yakface and Legoburner are really stretching what dakka can accomplish and the sense of vigour behind the scenes is great. The increasing posting volume, meaning more mods with a fresh perspective required in the last few months,

Thanks to Yakface and Legoburner, thanks to the regular and not so regular posters for giving me the reason to hang out here and thanks to GW for giving us the games that we endlessly discuss.

And sorry to Malfred for passing you at about 19,200 posts.

oh and if you want the word count for any specific word then feel free to ask. Eg; you have said 'monkey' 13 times and 'monkeys' twice. You've never used the F word and have only said sh*t twice. Ninja = 9, pirates = 16, 40k=116.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

Hey lego, post a table of Gonad's most frequented Topics. I dare ya.

Fail Thread or no, you're definitely dedicated to this site, and congrats on reaching 20K. You're only another 20K away from the game most of us play, so keep it up...

It really is amazing how many people know of Tyranid Picnic from their earliest visits to Dakka, yet it is talked about so little when they reminisce about what drew them here in the first place.

The FAIL Thread is up to 6092 posts as I post this.... I guess people will just have to become DCMs to bask in its 204 page glory, and intermittent double posting due to new sources of fail....

Also when you get to 20,000 posts your level goes up again.... I'm on Blood Angels and I was 'Captain of The Folorn Hope' since 10,000.

Okay - I thought that was the case, but I started thinking about it and thinking that maybe I was remembering Snord's models and so went back edited my post.... :/

Well done Gonads - a labour of love.

I've been around since those ancient times (but as I rarely post, everytime the site gets an upgrade I go back to being new user...). I remember the great Green Marine controversy, the Tyranid Picnic and the old crew. Who here still recalls those long ago heroes? Trask, Barpharanges, Bugswarm, Clouseau, Snord. Some still linger in the ether - Hubcap, whilst others seem immortal - Malfred, Kid Koyoto, and of course, Gonads.

This thread is an opportunity to revisit those long ago times and some of the great moments in Dakka history - I hope all the old guard contributes a little something.

So in about 10k posts he should fall to Chaos; beginning to posting drivel and make frequent use of lolspeak. Then a little while later, DakkaDakka will rebuild from the ashes of the Gonads heresy.

Maybe I should forewarn Yakface(with mind warnings!).

Well, well. Someone finally reached a max rank.

Shoot, now I'll have to go ahead and add the 'Sanguinius' rank at the 30,000 mark just to give you something to shoot for!

I was going to ask on the mod forum when the top rank was hit, I guess now we know.

If 20,000 is top rank why is Nicole Wakelin the listing for Classic Dakkaites?

Wait, just remembered some ranks have more than others....

No just a guy who spends a portion of each day on dakka whilst doing modelling/painting.
Plus work is pretty light the last year or so (or with long periods of waiting between operations) so get a fair amount of online time at work.
