I'd love to see them go back to 1850 or even 2K. 1750 is a killer for some armies, cause you can't make a good build or a fun army at that level.

100 points can make a big difference and doesn't add much time to the game.

Fantasy went up in points last year. Let's hope 40K does too.

Really?

1750 = not fun?
1850 = fun?

I really don't see 100 pts making any difference. Every army can use 100 pts to spend...or spare 100 pts. Frankly I think the 1850 level is just a weird number to settle on. It should either be 1750 or 2000.

As I said, some armies actually aren't playable at 1750. Space Wolves for example...they have to have 3 HQ's, and that extra 100 points goes a long way towards equalizing the army with other builds. I know another 100 points makes my Templars comfortable. Eldar benefit greatly from another 100 points, making them competitive.

Other armies don't benefit from higher points values, because you've already taken the expensive stuff.

Like I also said...100 points doesn't add to the play time, allows you to take some extra models or units, and allows some builds to be taken. Its win win win all around.

Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.

100 pts doesnt make that much difference, even in a Space Wolf army.

Basically, the only logical arguement you have in wanting 1850 games is that you like bigger pt value games. There isnt anything wrong with that, but thats the only arguement you have.

Saying "I can't build my army at 1750, I need at least 1850 to build it" is a silly arguement....just say you like bigger games. There is no real difference between 1750 and 1850.

For me, I'd like to see at least one year where we go to 2000 pts. Ard Boyz can fit 3 games in a day, I wouldnt see a problem with this.

I have never failed to seize on 4+ in my life!

Isn't the game itself play-tested at 1500pts? It's what I heard...

Play tested? Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh YEAH! That’s what they do...... SURE....................

I'm sure some play testing is done, however they've never optimized the game for one points level.

I don't think there'll be any outside the planned Mega-battles and Group Events. The whole reasoning being that tournies took people away from Games Day as a whole.

At least that's the impression I get.

There will be no regular tournaments, as they were once known, at Games Days this year.

The older rules actually had a statement that they were tested for 1500, but that is nowhere to be found in the newer editions.

I thought GW has a team of independent playtesters (aka techpriests) who are responsible for testing new codices. I do for certain this was the case for the daemonic hordes.

Anyone heard anything on US GT dates for this year yet?

Okay, so we are a week from April, and still no word on GW Grand Tournaments. Although some people believe that the current Indy GT list on the GW site is an indication that we'll have Indy Circuit and no "official" GW events this year, I don't buy it and don't believe that there won't be a Baltimore event at the very least.

What does everyone else think? Anyone heard any word on late 2009 events from GW (certainly the Indy events cover the majority of the year at this point) or was Dave Taylor's unexpected move from GW a sign of things to come as the company pulls up its britches through rough financial times?

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

I was just about to bring this back up myself.

Chris G. said on the first page that there will be USGTs, but the longer it goes without anything happening, the more unlikely it seems that there are not going to be any.

So you're saying that the year that I have the time, money, army, and means to go to a GT, it won't happen?

This is the Dallas GT all over again.

They have the events in white dwarf. Of course dates are TBA.

Which is worrying, actually. This time last year we already knew the dates for all 3 US GTs and tickets for at least one were on sale.

I am afraid that does not mean anything.

In 2006 they planned to have about 8 GTs and just before the St. Louis GT's tickets went on sale, they pulled the plug on the 6 that they had left.

Oh, and even thought they had all of the GTs times and dates already in their website, do you know how they announced it? They just removed them from their website, and it took a while before someone at GW finally confirmed that there would be no more GTs.

My concern is that, as much as our group is looking foward to the real GTs (especially Baltimore or Vegas), it is going to be more and more difficult to plan for the costs with less lead time. I hope that the higher-ups at GW can finalize these events or let us know that they aren't going to happen so that we can plan on doing something else this year.

Sort of. They had you bring X amount of points in FA, HS, or Elites( I can't remember which and it was different between events, IIRC) in addition to your "normal" army, it was used in 1 or 2 of the scenarios the whole weekend.

Normally Chris G. would come along and give us an update.

But seeing how the GW US Community blog/form had not been updated since about Jan, he might not even have a job.

While I hope that's not the case, I prefer to think that there is still nothing to report, as he is usually very good about posting what is going on. If this is the case, I hope those who are in charge of making the GT decisions read these as well...

Yes, sideboards like in MTG. The core force had to be a legal force org (so 1 HQ plus 2 troops) and the addition of one or both sideboards could not exceed a standard force org chart. You could not add to existing units in the sideboards. Still got the GT rules for that year tucked away somewhere. I remember it was the year I took an all-Scout Marine army to Baltimore.

Chris is still around, he's probably kinda busy right now with Baltimore Games Day.

I have to say that while my friends and I love Baltimore, I think the wife would like Vegas more and would want to go....and gamble....

Okay, so that's another vote for Baltimore then!

Don, it wasn't a joke. I really wanted to shake things up a bit and get people to think outside the box. That points limit was no more arbitrary than any other points limit, just different. Now I think its pretty rare to hit odd numbers like that with the new wave of 5th ed. codices.

The one thing I did get right was movable trees on tree templates, that made games so much easier, and after tourney clean-up became a breeze! Now, if they can get enough LOS blocking terrain on the tables, games will be grand!

We should plan up another Invasion tournament.

Crushed under Games Day planning is an apt description.

Hopefully I can get a final word from those above me on the GWGTs and have something to announce in the next two weeks.
