They look really nice. I'm curious on how you did the craters, myself.

I also wish you'd stop teasing me with scenery and get to the gameboard.

I'd say a little of column A & a litle of column B. Both would be welcome here.

I'm loving that building paint job, may have to try out that particular combo out. I have a bunch of CoD/Pegasus ruins models, but have yet to paint them.

H.B.M.C. wrote:Coolest part is the fact that you can put out maps between two clear sheets of plastic, so that it keeps them flat and keeps them safe. That's a really good idea for BTech.

This made me chuckle because a sheet of plexiglass (acrylic/lexan/whatever) is pretty much an essential for playing all wargames with paper or cardstock maps. Paper or thick cardstock is pretty much the defacto standard for non-tabletop wargames these days. Of course, the elitists don't refer to 40K and the like as wargames but rather as "tabletop miniatures" - I love semantics.

I have dozen or more (i've lost count) non miniatures wargames and I a lot of them would be a bear to play without a sheet of plexiglass over the map (protects the map from spills too boot, but not your counters unfortunately).

Those craters are fantastic. How'd you get the rock to look so... real? And as far as the lander goes, did you flock every bit that wasn't the lander itself? It looks like it.

Honestly I've never even thought of it. Usually before we have a gaming day or weekend using maps like we do in BattleTech, the days prior to that are spent with my maps sitting under every heavy book I own (all the Imperial Armour books are quite good for this, as well as the Dark Heresy books, the Apoc rulebook, any of the BTech hardback rulebooks). After that they're quite flat. The clear plastic's a good idea though.

I highly reccomend it, if you get a sheet large enough then you wont have to worry about it sliding around. Most hardware stores will also cut it to the size you want. Once you go plexiglass you never go back.

It's especially good also if you play games with one or more maps that need to go side by side, and again protecting maps from spills is a great plus.

The rock was very easy, just codex grey drybrushed over black with some white drybrushed on the edges. I did add some brown tones here and there as well.

I sanded and flocked everything but the lander as i wanted it to fit in with my IG bases.

Anyway i just picked up my ROB Board from Ready to run Models (thanks to Adrian for doing me a good price )

I will take some pics later and post them up

Grandmaster is happy

Ok ive just unpacked it.

First impressions are very good the case is great similar to my large soft cases like the ones staff got around 2003.

The plastic is very detailed and the construction seems strong.

I can't wait to find time to start painting maybe this weekend. I don't want to rush this as i hope to play 1000's of games on it

Here are some quick pics,

The RoBG is quite awesome. Well worth the $ despite some people thinking differently.

@Grandmaster - Do you know how you're going to be painting it? Desert / Ash Waste / Meadow / Other

Nice work, the battle board is pretty good, warning from a mate, the clips are also really good and if not appropriatly supported and someone leanes on an edge, it flips really easy! :-)

Your flocking is very nicely done, nice and "thick bush", how do you get it to be so thick without clumping? What glue do you use?

My comments are my own, and mine own alone. If you have any complaints, please report to Mr Spanky who will take them down for you.....

Its going to be Meadow as I play 40K, LOTR and WHFB so i want it to fit with all 3 - I might get a second later in the year and do a snow one If my wife lets me

Thanks for the advice, I think it will stay on the floor at the moment. As for the glue its all PVA just painted on and then the flock presses in to place and "blown off"!

I really want to prime it tonight but i don't think i will get home till after dark so it might have to wait till Sunday :(

Quick question, after you sprayed black did you use white or gray spray paint to pick out the rocks?

No its drybrushed codex, fortress and then white on the edges. On my later updates you will be able to see more updates.
