This is more a thing I learned playing against an army. A wraithlord has wounds and is not a vehicle. Neither is a talos But a dreanaught is. This cause me so much confusion before I memorized what each was. They all looked like robots, hence i assumed they were walkers and a skimmer. After dealing a "wound" to a wraithlord and getting locked in CC I felt dumb. Repeat this for the talos, but with worse results (is that possible), then I shoot AP weapons at a dread and watching them *plink* off it's AV. *sighs* I have learned that space marines are really hard to kill.

Charge Wraithguard and Dire Avengers with bladestorm as soon as possible! Even if it's with a small unit that is going to get killed, having a turn to get other units into position without the thread of being shot into oblivion against the Eldar is invaluable.

You can never have enough dice.
Never underestimate the power of the "lone soldier" (even when their ENTIRE unit is dead, with enough lucky rolls one ork can cause havoc! I found out when my lone nob took out an entire sm tactical squad and tied up my opponent's iron-clad dreadnaught for the rest of the game)
If you throw cheap squads at powerful units you can tie them up while your other guys can score and hold objectives.
It's just a game. Being a bitch about winning or losing will make people not want to play with you anymore. Warhammer isn't a 1 player game, you need other people too.

It doesn't matter how great your army list is or how awesome your strategies are, if you screw up deployment the whole game will be an up hill battle. Take your time and think about what you want each unit of yours to achieve and then position them accordingly.

General:
-Your crap will die. Get over it.
-This ( ) happens way to often.
Eldar:
-Guardians are really hard to kill.
-The most useful thing a wraithlord can do is have a ballistic skill of 4 and hold a bright lance (I call my wraithlord "Russbuster Bob")
-Even one fire Prism is worth it, if only to kill those tightly packed terminators that just deep struck in.
-You are faster than your opponent. Avoid being charged at any cost.
-Go Fish of Fury with your bladestorming Dire Avengers.
-there's nothing like wraithsight to ruin your day (except a splitting headache)
-An autarch is beast in close combat.
-Scorpions are best used in the role of counterattack- prevent your opponents from charging your precious guardians.
-If you lose your guardians, your army will start to fall apart.
-War Walkers are your best HS choice- they can dish out an obscene amount of firepower.
-Your Avatar is a cheap close-combat beast, but one of his greatest features is the fact that anything near him is fearless.
-Support platforms will just die (they're good in apocalypse, though)
-don't waste your Nightwing's shots on superheavies- it won't scratch their paint. Instead, focus on killing monstrous creatures/tank squadrons.
-A good strategy is charging your out-of-the-box harlequins out of a Flacon transport. (remember, though, to leave the transport BEFORE it moves).
-A close-combat wraithlord (wraithsword +2 flamers) is best used as a counterattack unit. In normal 40k, it will die before it gets to the enemy lines. In Apocalypse, however, it may have the time to advance as your enemy shoots at juicier targets.
-pathfinders are expensive, but they are great suppressive fire, picking off enemies one at a time, as well as pinning them down.
-Pathfiners are also good at taking down high toughness foes (eg. Nightbringer).

Eldar can be survivable, as long as you dont try and play them like Plague Marines.
If you use terrain, your 24 inch movement + cover save and holofields and spirit stones you can survive not by enduring a weight of shots, but by making sure the majority of his firepower is left unable to fire or unable to hit anything worthy.
I won an apocalypse game yesterday 4500 versus 4500 points. (my side had 3000 points marines and 1500 eldar and our opponents were a drop pod marine army, a landspeeder and bike heavy marine army and a very static marine footslogging army) In the first turn our opponents stole the initiative and blew 750 points of Eldar away. Yet even with all three of them focus firing on my Eldar it was turn five before my army had been completely destroyed. In which time they'd lost their momentum, taken huge loses from my team mates and found that even though I was now gone, they had wasted so much time killing me that they couldn't capture enough objectives to win.
Ultimately I was tabled, yet my side still won simply because I managed to survive alot longer than our opponents predicted. There entire plan had revolved around blowing me out the water and then doing a 3 on 2. Yet by the time I had been blown away there army was split up from chasing me around the board. Individual units were isolated and destroyed, or left unable to add there support to the game.

I'm suprised no one has said this before:
Chop the shooty, shoot the choppy.
- Counter assault units with charge denial and weight of fire, counter shooting units with mobility and close combat.
Understand the rules the very best you can.
- I can't count the number of games I lost due to misapplication or just forgetfulness of the rules. By the same token, do the game justice and remember the ones that work against you, too.
Force your own tempo.
- Tempo refers to the strategic push-pull of action to counteraction in combat. Sun Tzu (I believe) said that to put any opponent off balance, the tempo you want to achieve is Slow-Slow-Quick-Quick. A slow, almost ponderous opening move will lull an opponent to your pace, another slow move will make them confident and draw in for the kill. When you have drawn them out, bloody their nose with a lightning counter, then deliver a killing blow before they can recover. These are advanced theories and purposely vague, take your time applying them, and as Musashi would say, from a little, learn much.
Remember the objectives.
- This has already been said, but bears repeating. Killing your opponent will only contribute to a win in 1/3 of the missions (Annihilation). Positioning and timing in the late game are what actually win you objective games. For practice, play single objective small battles with a friend. Experiment with combination and wave attacks against the position that will ultimately place a troop unit on it in the final turns, not too early, but never too late. For large scale battles, use your favorite combinations as a dedicated element of your force, and design the rest of your strike group to be complimentary to that mission. Ultimately, you want to be able to do away with your structured attack and form your plan fluidly on the fly so as not to be predictable, but don't worry about that at first. Concentrate on the nuts and bolts of making your army accomplish the objectives, THEN worry about subterfuge and style.
Win generously and loose graciously.
- Never gloat on a win. Amongst friends, you can take liberties, but the best doctrine is to be generous in your praise of your opponent. I don't care how hard you have to look, you can always find something complimentary to say about your opponents game and army. Do it. As you loose, look for the lessons of the game, and thank your opponent for a good time. Frustrating as loosing is, try to look for the "last stand" heroics of your army, and remember to tell funny stories about the little Powerfist Seargent That Could (All by himself). Compliment the winner and set up a rematch.

Just because you are only good at shooting <12" doesn't mean you don't want your girls to sit tight in their rolling coffins while the Exorcists and Retributors thin that herd coming at you.
If you are going to strike, try to Alpha Strike. If you don't kill that power weapon, your power armor can't protect your squishy T3 flesh.
Bolters kill anything in sufficient numbers. Volume, volume, volume.
AP1 on a 6 means a lot, especially if you need a 6 to wound.
AP1 or 2 and 2xT weapons (meltas, lascannons) and power weapons deny FnP to Great Unclean Ones as well as Plague Marines. Big fatty daemons rolling a 4+ to avoid a wound is no better than carapace.
Rhino's are not rolling coffins anymore.
Str 3 power weapons are not worth 10 points unless fighting Sisters or Eldar, and even then, that's pushing it.

Nurgle armies got significantly easier to deal with in 5th edition overall. In 4th, you had to have AP1 or double-toughness to bypass FNP, or ignoring armor in CC would bypass it. Now, AP2 will also bypass FNP, which means plasma spam is a GREAT way to put down those slimy gits. Twice the rate of fire of a meltagun or twice the range. I keep a Plasmagun x 4 command squad on my shelf for that specific reason.

key word is Once.
they are far overcosted, they are extremely easy to eliminate as they are just regular T4 3+ marines with no better cover save, and no ablative wounds at all. The only benefit they have over normal devastator squads (split fire) is completely nullified with devs being able to combat squad.
for the same points as one can spend on a Long Fang Pack, one can buy 2 decked out predators.
Also, you still ended up losing the match. If the wolf player had spent his points better, and actually went into close combat things may have gone better.
