My apologies for the couple day lapse, I've been busy with work and other commitments but I managed to get my Russ mostly assembled over the week. One thing that upset me about that kit is that the heavy bolter sponson piece doesn't fit properly into the hull-mounted spot as I'd hoped it would, so it looks like it's conversion city for me on that.
Waaagh_Gonads wrote:For snazzing up the models.
How about colouring in the aquilla on each model's chest and gun (white or a metal would work well).
Roman numerals for unit markings on left shoulder pad?
Following quite a few people's suggestions I did unit markings and put white on the eagles on the lasguns in white on the models I finished today. I'll put pictures up as soon as I can track down the camera I was using. Automatically Appended Next Post: As promised, progress for today. For unit markings I didn't want to do Arabic or Roman numerals because they're overdone and I find them boring, so instead I did Hindu numbers, so my army could be different. I also went and painted the eagles on the lasguns and grenade launcher white, which worked well, so I'll be doing it on all models from now on and going back and doing it on the squad I finished already.

I'll keep this short because I'm tired and I have to get up early tomorrow. I finished my 2nd squad and I learned that I hate painting fully assembled missile launchers, if I were to do it again I'd go back and drill and pin them so I could just put them together after I finished painting them. But until then, I've got two more to do. The unit markings I'm fairly happy with, they don't take much time and though my freehand could use some work it's not terrible. My goals for the week include going back and doing unit markings and detailing in white on the first squad and finishing the Russ as best I can while I wait for my Forgeworld goodies to arrive.
2nd squad done, complete with white details and unit markings.
Both squads
And the Russ I was working on. I was very disappointed to figure out that the heavy bolter sponson doesn't fit properly in the hull mounted slot. After I finished gluing it shut. I guess I'll just have to go back and fix it later with a little bit of drilling and pinning.

Sorry for the inordinate amount of time between updates but my job has been keeping me from updating, though I have managed to get some painting done. Only the Command Squad and the platoon is finished!

I see exactly what you mean Gutteridge and I went over the model to check it out but there's no green on it. I'll chalk it up to some weird lighting or camera effect.

My lady has been out here for the past two weeks, but now that she's gone it's back to some serious painting. With that I give you the first half of my PCS. For my 1000 point list the power weapon guy is going to become Lukas Bastonne and I'll convert an officer out of the next box I buy. Even a two week break shows in my painting, I washed these guys way too heavily.
Comments and criticism appreciated.

Great to see you again, and i love the power sword - i do like the bases and can't wait to see the forge-world being in its work!
with the cloth armour - perhaps a lighter colour highlighted onto it to create a better contrast with the deep red.

For simplicity (read: I'm lazy) I'm using Khemri brown for the fatigues and hitting them with Badab Black wash after it's all said and done.
Once again, I apologize for the incredible delay between posts, but work has been taking a toll on me of late, and EVE has turned out to be more addicting that I'd like, but I have managed to get a small amount of painting and modeling done.
My finished Platoon Command Squad. I'm not sold on the setup, but that's how I have my list written for now so more than likely I'll go fix it later. My painting isn't good enough to warrant posting individual pictures on here, but if you care to look there are individual photos in my gallery.
The officer with the power sword in the last picture will soon be replaced by this guy. Lt. No Name. I didn't like the sergeant's stripes on the powerfist so I filed them off and put a nice Lt. bar there instead. The lesson learned is that I could use some more practice with green stuff.
The Veteran Squad that is the rest of my infantry for my first 1000 points of Guard. They're meant to be the assault part of the force so everyone who doesn't have a flamer has a bayonet. I'm trying to figure out how to appropriately represent their status and I'm thinking about camo fatigues for right now. Shouldn't be too hard to pull off but any other suggestions are very welcome.
My first finished Russ. Now that I look at it I realize I need to go back and drill out the HB. I'll be working on this guy like mad for the next couple days trying to complete my June vows.

So in a rush to complete my June vows I've started putting the basecoats on my Leman Russ. The red could use a few more coats, and it needs detail work and cleaning but looking at the paint scheme I'm fairly happy the way it came out, though I'm not 100% sold on it. Any thoughts, comments, or criticism on the paintjob or the camo in general would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading,

I know you haven't done any highlighting or anything yet but it looks very dull right now. The colour (yup I'm Canadian) scheme is great, but as it is it is very uninteresting. With highlighting it should add some depth and will make the model much more appealing. I look forward to seeing it finished.

Aboot (sorry, couldn't resist) the suggestion Nightwatch, thank you, butfor the sake of not taking forever I've just been washing all my models with Badab Black instead of highlighting, and it's been working pretty well so far. Alas this Leman Russ is full of the mortal enemy of washes, flat, undetailed space. After hitting this sucker with a wash I'm unhappy that I can see the brush strokes on the tan, but I think I might just be chalking this one up in the "Lessons for the Future" column and driving on.
So without further ado
I'll be chugging on the turret to get it done tomorrow, so I can complete my June vows!

Hahaha...I think it looks much better already, not nearly as plain as before. The colour has really come out, but I can see how the flat surfaces would be an obstacle...
About the aboot, I personally find that hilarious. In all my time living in Canada, not ONCE have i heard anyone, Canadian or other, pronounce it that way. I would love to know how these queer pronunciations got started, but unfortunately I will probably never find out.
That's interesting, the flag next to my name has changed to american...perhaps the mods are poking fun at my mispronunciation of "aboot"? I shall have to look into this...

As a canadian who lived in the states for 4 years for school, i have to say that what it is is the emphasis we put on the lattr part of the sound on the vowel, which to most americans makes it sound like aboot instead of about. also with ball couch mom etc. etc.

It's just something that we stereotype about Canadians, as I'm sure you do about Americans.
I'm keeping this short because I have a meeting I have to make here shortly, but I finished it! And managed to complete my June vows as well. Naice, The Tank wash really brings it all together and picks out the details such as rivets.
As you say it may be a touch too much ink... May i suggest you also go back over and do some subtle highlights?
I think the tank camo would benefit from a highlight around the edges of the red portions, where they meet the tan...

I agree that I could go back and define the edges of the colors and it would add a lot to it, but I think I'm going to get this project finished and everything painted first before I go back and fix something (relatively) minor.
So, I've had a busy couple of weeks with doctors appointments and MRIs and stuff like that, but I did get my veteran squad with 3 flamers done. Just as a quirk, because I intend these guys to be objective takers or speed bumps I decded all the non-special weapon guardsmen should have bayonets. I picked up my final Command Squad box to do my CCS, so expect that soon.

So, I have been finding my IG uninspiring lately so I decided to paint up this beast, because I love Terminators. As it turns out I have quite a few Dark Angels laying around from an aborted attempt to start them last year so I think from now on I'll be tossing a little DA flavor into this blog so I can switch up my painting and perhaps build towards an overall combined IG/Multiwing Apocalypse force. I still need to finish his storm shield, but that's not too much more work.
Any comments or criticism on the model greatly appreciated, and as always, thanks for reading.

Well i've been watching this log since it's start and i have to say i really like your IG scheme, very simple but incredibly effective which i feel IG should be! I know that IG can fail to inspire you when your army need's it the most but don't give up! This force is going to look superb if you keep going! I love you're color scheme, the red offsets the tan/beige very well. Pig Iron heads FTW! We have very similar army modelling styles, just a different take on the color scheme, but I think yours is totally kicking. I just got burnt out on red, myself, after all those blood angels....

Ah yes, I have a terrible time painting white. It's a bit of a struggle for me but I'll endeavor to clean it up on my next termie. Yes, Deathwing should be white, but these are a successor chapter, the Terribly Sad Green Marines with a Terrible Secret.

So, some more progress on my as yet unnamed DA successor chapter and a little more work on my IG. I've had a lot of fun painting the Terminators and since they're inspiring for me right now, I think that I'll get more work done on them than my IG. I did purchase a Chimera, which I'm finding a pain the butt to put together, and hopefully I should have it and the rest of my command squad painted in a week or so. So without further ado.
Thanks for looking,

Yeah, the chimera definitely is a pain to put together... mainly in relation to mating the upper hull to the lower hull... The back hatch area doesn't quite line up sometimes because the upper hull can warp on the sprue... at least it did for me in the last Chimera I got.

So after plenty of fiddling and more than a few mistakes I finally managed to get that Chimera together. Also got the CCS I've been working on out of the way, so I'm finally done with all the infantry models in my 1000 point list. Just have to paint the Chimera and get a Leman Russ and I'll have completely my goal.
Here's the Chimera pre-paint.
And the finished CCS
So having finished my Dark Angels successor Deathwing squad I decided to work on some rank and file marines. I converted this guy as best I could in MK4 armor and tried to make it looks like he has devotional scripts on his pauldrons, but I'm not sold on the effect. Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.
