Mmm... You could always do a ccs and a unit of 20 conscripts, but thats still only one troop choice, and a spare sentinal. i think what there doing is making you buy more minis. i never saw that coming, i really didnt.

Cant people just make 2 vet squads out of it? Plenty of left overs.

Yeap, vets are troops in 5th editon guard. However they 70 pts a pop. Throw in a doctrain for them and they are now 100pts ;p

No they're not, you can run an all vet IG force now.
Conscripts on the other hand need to be included in a platoon, no longer a legit troops choice on their own.

I think they should have left out the sentinel and called it a platoon box set for like $75, then added a sentinel and maybe an extra infantry and/or cmd squad and called it a battleforce.

Nice, i might consider a whole vet army now, that would be really cool, does anyone know anyway to make cool looking vets, like from cadian sets, if their is an existing thread can you put up a link.

However, taling to the guys in GW checking out suspicions (you probably know this anyway but hey!) the 2nd wave will have a new tank sprue for the russ, giving the new options plus a turret that looks like the drawings in the codex (I'm assuming this is why it was left out of the battle force). There will also be a plastic hellhound. They wouldn't comment confirm other guard stuff. Unlikly that there will be a plastic deathstrike (although WD said all tanks would be in plastic - yeh right, where's the shelf space for that? Oh yeh, spase Marinse get it!)

Planetstrike - they refused to say anything, said they were determined that staff would be the first to know anything. From what I did get out of them what they are waiting to here is pretty much common knowledge on here! Bastion/defense line/landing pad, attakers/defenders etc.

for my cadians, I just have normal guys with guns as my regular guardsmen, but the vets all get backpacks from heavy weapon teams, knives, canteens and grenade bitz on them. I also ordered a cadian upgrade set and some extra backpacks from forge world for them. also I painted the armored parts with little metal chips like they've been banged up a little.

i think it depends on how you visualize your vets:

Are they the best-of-the-best, straight out of the armory where they've been given the best gear possible? Take Cadians. Maybe use special heads so they all have helmets, maybe with communicators and such. Paint them similar to normal models, but give them a distinctive feature like a black arm band or shoulder pad. Maybe use Kasrkin parts.

Are they the survivors of countless battlefields, a motley group that works together amazingly well,, seemingly reading each other's minds in combat when they're not hurling profanities at each other? Take some Cadians and work on making them individual. Use some heads from other lines if you can get them. Give them tropies, personalities, and individual details. You don't have to write a book, just think about it while making them. Again, a distinctive feature like an arm band or shoulder pad might help them stand apart.

Cool, anybody else got any ideas, im gunna try that chipped armour thing though.

Tah balance, i want to got with the experianced troops thing, ive heard some people add bits from catachan sprues, im not really sure about that but i really want to do something good.

Again thanks cyporiean, how much does the forgeworld stuff cost aproximatley? and do you suggest i finish my army first and then buy fw stuff, or buy fw stuff for the units i already have? which isnt really much.

on the subject of the post. its a bit cruel. On the subject of models. my cadians are going to be supported by Death Korps veteran squads and Death Korps storm troopers. Mianly cause they look cool and secondly im sick of metal models. Even if they do plastic stormies i'll still go DK.

Why not just get a full DK army, it wil be less cheapened.

As around your gaming group or store. there may be someone that has a spare catchatan sprue or bitz that they will trade with you or sell you cheap. Or maybe one of the online bitz places will sell you a sprue of men. Or, buy all cadians buy just get an extra catchatan command squad box and use random bitz from there to mix in for your vets. In fact, the command squad box might be a better idea, it will have cooler bitz and the extra plasma and melta will be nice too.

Yerr, they're talking about the re-edited version where instead of han shooting first, greedo shoots, its meant to make han more heroic, there was a major outcry but its only in the newer versions i believe.

Not vets, but if it motivates you:

When I was actively playing 40k I considered making Inquisition Stormtroopers by taking Steel legion figures and adding Space Marine shoulder pads, Kasrkin backpacks, and a few other odd bits to beef them up a bit. Last time I priced it it'd be an expensive conversion, though.

However, a box of Steel Legion or one of the older metal legions could be another way to show veterans. I don't think it's quite what you're looking for, though.

Yer, i like the idea of steel legion, i might just get some old style storm troopers, they would contrast well with kasrkin.

I have seen the original 1977 Star Wars over 200 times and in every one han shot first and that is how it should be Greedo was a sneaky git.

Alright everyone, thanks for the advice about vets, ive finished my squad of them now using the plastic command squad bitz, i also got the new codex yesterday so now im really excited, (penal legion troops, interesting) i was wondering if anyone has any links to stuff about deathstrike missiles.
