Who is most likely to buy the Chaos Bastion?
Chaos Players.

What do most Chaos players have lots of?
Left over vehicle accessories and spiky bits.

So who is going to buy the Chaos Bastion?
Idiots with more money than sense.

Heh. Looking at the Aussie prices, the Chaos Bastion is AUD$28 more than the regular one. WTF GW? That for some fething spiky bits?

Heh, the terrain was in the BRB on pages 230 and 243.

EDIT: so is the landing pad on page 239 by the looks of it, more or less now that I've inspected it closer.

Chaos Tank Accessories, Price: Oz$14.00, x2 = Oz$28.00

Only really worth it if you are planning on buying some chaos spiky bits sprues from GW Direct in the first place. Meh. As you say, any chaos player worth their stinky socks would just buy an Imperial Bastion and chaos it up with bitz from their bitz box.

The hits just keep on coming!

From the GW website:

"When the architects of Chaos take over a world, they can't help but personalise its structures with all manner of spikes and skulls"

They = GW?

I am planning almost exactly that, but mounted on a 1/48 scale armoured car for a difference. I was fearing I would need to buy a much more expensive kit for those bits.

Still doesn't make it worth it. I've got about 8 plastic cases from Bunnings that I use to store bits - they've got about 16 plastic compartments and are good for putting bitz in - one of them is full of Chaos bits and another full of Chaos vehicle bitz. The +$28 price increase is a complete joke.

28" worth per box, according to the site.

That's pretty impressive, then! This looks like it may actually be a pretty good value.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

You disembark from your lander on the ground as usual. The lander takes off and THEN lands on the landing pad.

Given the state of things in the 41st millennium, that just might be what is expected!

Bastion and defence line look like good value.

I giggled at the Icarus pattern las cannon, I assume with an anti-aircraft mount

Landing pad does nothing for me, especially at $40. Unless I'm missing something it's a flat field on stilts. Easy scratchbuild.

Yeah, chaos bastion is a joke, but easy to ignore.

$78 for a freaking Chaos Bastion? Because of the spiky bits? At least the defence line is halfway reasonable. At least we have a good way to make plastic hydras.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

As for getting down from the landing pad I am guessing that the black and yellow hazard stripe areas around it are elevators. Now there's no detail I can see on the supports that correlates with that, but why else would they only paint the hazard stripes on those sections. It should have a back up in case of power failure/damage of stairs/ladders though.

That bit is interesting.

I'll probably get a landing pad just so I have a place to display my Valk.

Had anyone noted lately how annoying the GW site is?

To see that I had to 'pick my country' (which is not listed) and then get a warning that GW doesn't like my choice of browser.

Seriously, WTF?

I'm going to add some sort of cargo elevator to mine, as ladders wouldn't work as there would be no way to get munitions or fuel up to the pad for the incoming Valks.

I like em all. Been saving up the store's terrain fund in anticipation of these. Should end up close to $160 to get several of each if turnout for this weekend's tournament is up to the recent par.

There are four red hatches on the top, ladders can be found on the other side of the four support struts.

So the yellow stripes bit is some kind of lift? I dont see a human fitting inside that red hatch... I think I would built a ramp but I'm not...repeat not going to buy anything...

As stated earlier, the 5ed rule book shows an earlier version on page 239, it has different legs, but the landing pad is exactly the same (without the side flaps) and it has a lift at one of the hazard stripe edges.

If that was in the final version, you would think that they would show it in the pic.

As always, we will have to wait and see, but I think that it is a good conversion option... and there's always the ramp option.

From the Website description,

"Bastions can take the form of anything from reinforced ferrocrete bunkers to pyramidal tombs made of living metal. Bastions are typically resilient enough to withstand an orbital bombardment, and often form the cornerstone of a planet's defence network."

The way it is written intrigues me. I think it is suggesting that the rulebook will contain rules for Bastions for all the races, right?

If so I wonder what the others will be. Living metal? Necron pyramids, Nids=hive, eldar wraithbone etc. I'm guessing most of these will have to be scratch built tho.

What does everyone think?

The book will most likely come with studio examples of how other races their Bastions should look.

Actually, the hazard stripes are there because the pad can be shielded (i.e., the 'flaps' on the edges flip up giving you a cover save) or not (allowing your to assault off of the pad when landing, or something like that?). So they are there to warn you of the moving parts...

So, I guess we're back to using those really small hatches?

From what I remember the Aegis allows for models to assault upon landing and you can raise the armoured sides granting all models a 4+ cover save.

Yeah, thats exactly what happens when I visit too (very annoying if the one providing the link wanted to show some specific article, you have to search for it anyway )

I guess they don't have a tech-superhero like legoburner to fix those things in record time over there.

'Bout the terrain:

Bastion: Meh. I would have preferred something wider then it's tall. Doesn't cut it for me.

Landingpad: So high without quick enough means to get down. Easily scratchbuilt. Big No. I will make mine without silly stills, flat on the ground and Still have a ramp (for convinience of getting small carts and wagons down)

Defence line: The barricades are okey. I have to tell my father about the quad autocannons huh? So long did the dream last... I didn't even get to try the fightabomma.

Chaos bastion: already covered superbly by you guys.

The small resin markers: you can do without them.

Back in the day, we had to make this stuff out of plasticard, styroboard, or just plain old styro sheets.

>>>>>>>

Now you young punks get to fork over hard earned green for the plastic kind that you don't even have to do anything to but paint.

The stuff has its uses, I guess, but for 20 bucks a pop, I don't see it as any different then the cardbord cut out stuff from a couple of years ago.

Planetstrike, for when the rules just arn't crappy enough, buy more stuff to forget the irony.
