Except a SW terminator can't buy it. SW Terminators with a heavy weapon can buy one 1-handed weapon from the Armory that is usable by terminators - iirc, that means power weapon, power fist, thunderhammer, chainfist, or a single lightning claw.

Unless Codex Terminators are Wolf Guard, I think it's SWs.

"Minigun" does, brand-wise, refer to an electrically powered, Gatling style, rifle caliber weapon produced by GE back in the 1960s, but people do tend to use the term "Vaseline" as a universal synonym for petroleum jelly, so I'd have to call it as I see it. The Assault cannon is a minigun, but not a "Minigun".
WOW, thank you!
Gatling gun is a name of all kind of machine gun having a cluster of barrels designed to be successively discharged automatically when rotated about an axis, derived from inventor Richard Jordan Gatling. "Minigun" it's the name of specific gatling gun made by General Electric called M134 (in US ARMY) or GAU-2 (in USAF). As Eagle said, both terms are interchanged, but the name "gatling gun" is more accurate.

If you are using C:SM they are both viable options. I would say the assault cannon due to rending and its high strength high shots and it just hurts. The CML is very nice but I would keep it at a ratio of 2:1 (assault : cycl).
If you don't use C:SM and use one of the older variants always use the Assc.

Personally, I don't see why you can't use both (one at a time though)! I magnetized my Terminators to be able to swap the heavy weapons depending on what I was expecting to face.

I prefer assault cannons. They nicely complement the range of storm bolters and work against the same targets.
