The GKT's understand why they fight? Really? They aren't brainwashed, psychopathic killing machines? Ogryns probably understand their duty to the Empruh as much as the GKT's do.
GK's are "knights in shining armor"? What the feth kind of fairy tales did you read as a kid? I never read a fairy tale that involved the knight chopping off the princess's head after rescuing her because she had seen the dragon.
As to the point of this thread, I've only encountered Ogryn's once, and they were damned tough. I charged a five man unit of them with ~8 CSM and 9 Lesser Daemons. They were still standing after the first round, but they hadn't killed many chaos scum.

There is nothing cheesy (or 'chessy' in your case) about taking legal units in a legal army.

Ignoring them until turns 5-6-7 is a bad idea (unless your playing a 2250pt game where you obviously were able to field a silly amount of firepower)
6" move + D6 run is enough to get towards a big targetable threat (i.e not a AV14 landraider) within about turns 3-4. If the army your fielding against employs MSU then this is obviously a disadvantage but still i'd say 10 ogryns is overkill anyway.
Yeah I know its hard to take lessons away from that kind of game. As it was an objective game and the Ogryns were not a scoring unit I really saw no need to waste shots on them. The only reason I bothered was because I had already killed everything else by turn 5 so I had two turns of Ogryn shooting gallery. My oppoenent did feel he had played them to conservatively. They got in cover early and he was in shell shock i think as all of his regular guard infantry were pretty much dead by the begining of turn 3 so i think he was afraid to get them out in the open.
It should also be noted that my opponent suffered perhaps the worst single round of shooting I have ever seen on turn 2 with his entire army, including the shadowsword managing to kill only one Valkyrie with no other effect to my Army. It was pretty much over at that point, you cant fight the dice.
Either way it was an interesting game and I was suprised at how hard it was to kill them in cover even with 1/4 of my army having nothing else to do but shoot at them.

At least GKT's can kill the fething dragon, an Ogryn would be more interested in something like the pretty ribbons in the princesses hair. Also, they may be slightly indoctrinated, but they UNDERSTAND their duty, Ogryns kill stuff becuase someone with shiny buttons on thier chest points at the Enemy. According to the IG the SMARTEST ogryn Nork 'Deddog can count to 4... 4! He is confused by his fething left thumb. I doubt ogryns even understand the concepts of an Emperor, Imperium, Humanity or Duty.

All I'm saying is that if you are looking for gallantry, stop there at space marines and such. By the way space marines started off a lot more human than Ogryns ever were, they understand thier mission to serve the Emperor and Humanity. Ogryn can't even comprehend anything more complex than the navigation of their left nostril.
Also I'm only having a go at Ogryn mutants because I'm a witch hunter , Can you really blame me?
Technically.. Ogryns devolved from a pure human genome whereby originally The primarch space marines were created to go above & beyound that of a normal human.. subsequent humans were indoctrinated into the adeptus astartes & transformed so pretty much the same as Ogryns except in the other direction. They are not -that- stupid. Just pretty stupid. Well pretty damned stupid.. but they can pull a trigger!

This is only my theory, but against almost any army, I think it is a grave mistake to play Ogryns conservatively. They have T5 and 3 wounds, they are so tough that it is very possibly a mistake to shoot at them unless they are an imminent threat. I think the Ogryn player has to go balls-to-the-wall or they simply won't do enough to justify their points (a difficult proposition anyway).

Well as an Ork player who recently faced a unit of 10 Orgryns I can say....OUCH. They can gak the @#$% of of things and then demolish anything that remains in CC. Sure their save is weak, but hey find some cover saves.

Thats the problem with them, you have to either keep them in cover which allows the enemy to just ignore them and blast the feth out of the easilly killed guardsmen around them, or you charge them forward, unsupported without cover and highly vulnerable to enemy fire. They tend to be very sub par against mech armies.
They are very devastating against small elite assault based armies, but for guard its really very simple, Guard wins by shooting, anything that takes away from that reduces the overall effecitvness of you army even if the unit itself is spectacular.

What about putting them in a chimera? When the ennemy closes, rush 12" forward, pop smoke, and next turn assault from the chimera?

Yeah - works. Doesnt make much use of thier ability to give cover to other infantry & vehicles but ofcourse its makes them a bit nippy.
I'd say a very good choice to use a a creed outflanker, espically if the army is themed around nasty CC 10pt/model IG guardsmen.
