I run two LRBT w/ PC sponsons and a LRDemo w/ hull HF.
The LRBT w/ PC sit back and shoot while the LRDemo pushes forward with my MeltaVets (in Chimeras) and Hellhound/Banewolf.

That is, I think, the best part of the new book that between the Tanks and Artillery there are multiple choices for almost every role. It allows for an amazing variation in builds even within the same basic theme.
I wish the rules had been better written, and they actually botherd to mention how the Valk should be played, but all in all Im thrilled with what the book lets us do.

Punisher shoots at a unit of 10 tactical marines: 20 shots BS 3 = 10 hits 10 wounds str5 vs T4 = 7 wounds 7 armor saves 3+ save = 2 dead marines Which is why you don't take one against Marines. Orks, however, are a different kettle of humanoid-shaped-sentient-fungus altogether. Add Pask and you get, what, 13 hits, 9 wounds and will probably kill 7 or 8 of them. Add in 3 heavy bolters to that (for much less than plasma sponsons) and that will bump up to 11 to 12 dead orks per turn (and occasionally you will kill 20 odd in one round of firing). Thats pretty shiny, and will probably work similarly against Guard, Tyranids and Tau

The Vanquisher you described costs 210 points without Pask. Since a Vendetta costs 130 points and a Manticore costs 160 points, the Vanquisher without Pask is an inferior choice.
Pask complicates things somewhat, but I don't think it's worth sacrificing 260 points to take a singe (albeit very effective) anti-armor vehicle. Once again, we're making Pask-centric statements without properly calculating the costs associated with him. A Punisher with 3x HB sponsons and Pask is 250 points. A Vaklyrie with 2x HBs, 2x MRPs and a multilaster costs 140 points.
Pask is only worth 50 points on a vehicle that is using both his increased Ballistic Skill and his +1 to armor penetration. An 24" range AP - weapon is a terrible anti-armor weapon, even with Pask's +1 pen ability; the only vehicles likely to be in range are transports, and transports don't really care about "crew shaken" or "weapon destroyed" results.

Im really only considering it for Ard Boyz when points are not as much of an issue. Pask is an absolute requirement to make it a worthwhile choice and that makes the unit a very difficult choice for an 1850 list.
The vendetta comparison is not a good one as it is not a good platform against AV14. The Manticore has simillar offensive capacity but Im leary of fragile artillery. The Pask Squadron went through 5 2250pt tournament games without a single casualty, even when facing a super heavy tank. I really like the survivability quite a bit. I'm still not sure about Pask. Personally he only seems like he would fit in when used with a Vanquisher. A Vanquisher with a hull lascannon should be destroying a tank a turn. Having Pask in a Punisher (even kitted out) seems like he would have a tough time earning his points back, but then again I haven't played with either option so I'm just throwing my opinion out there.

It might be more expensive that a valkyrie but it is a hell of a lot more survivable and can probably pick up some kind of cover save. Also transports don't usually have many weapons so if you throw enough weapon destroyed and immobilized results at it it will pop in the end and the Punisher can certainly throw out a lot of fire.
