PC definitely. The amount of awesome strategy games out there is unbeatable. My personal favs are Rome: Total War, Medival II: Total War, and Sins of a Solar Empire.

Only downside: I have to completely rebuild my computer every couple of years. The only original component in my computer is the casing and maybe the motherboard. Not sure on the last one. I usually have to buy a new vid card every year and this year I'm probably going to invest in a new power supply and sound card.

My hatred of console games knows no depths. To many buttons to fiddle with. If you can't do it with a mouse, WASD and a bar of spells/powers, I'm not interested. Besides, as much as I hate computers, I don't want another potentially troublesome piece of technology cluttering up my home. I am eagerly awaiting developments in neural interface technology. Then you will be able to control video games with thoughts alone. (You can take your red pill and stick it!!!)

PC.

I own a PS2, and will get a PS3 when God of War III and Tekken 6 arrive, but PC gaming is what I prefer.

Forever alone

I'd be a more avid PC gamer if my computer wasn't a seven-year-old piece of gak that struggles to run anything made after 2004 and doesn't even have a DVD drive.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I have switched to a console gamer after getting a 360. Prior to that it was PC Uber Alles.

I still prefer mouse and keyboard for FPS and RTS games, but the game pad is OK and I don't hate it as much as I did the older consoles controls.

Though the switch was also due to the fact that I did not have anywhere for my PC to be set up when I moved house...

I voted Both because I have preference to a PC for Strategy, management and single click style games.

Whereas I prefer a console for Action, Roleplaying, adventure games.

The Wii is the only real console this generation, where you can play console games that don't work so well on a PC, including some more 'arcade' style games.

The HD twins are just watered down PCs, playing casualised PC games.

For PC games, get a PC.

For Console games, get a Wii because that's where they are.

So this way, it's not one vs. another, but two different things to play very different games.

Ooh, you opened a can of worms with that one. As the owner of all three I've gotta say that the Wii is the weakest of the bunch with the poorest selection of games.

Apparently most of the world population disagree.

What I mean is, it's all different for different people.

At the moment, the only games that interest me on the HD twins are also on the PC. There's no games that I would want to play on them. The Wii has other games, but also has the advantage of a (legal) selection of some of the best games ever in Virtual Console. It's quite funny that many new games can't compete with the classics now.

I'm predominantly a PC gamer. My favourites are the Total War series, Civ IV, Bioshock, Half Life 2 etc...I do like console games such as guitar hero, Wii sports, FIFA, Mario Kart but I recently tried Call of Duty 3 on PS3 as it never came out on PC but I just can't play an FPS with a joypad anymore as the mouse/keypad combo is far superior.

bah, the only console I respect is the 360. but sadly, it appears the targeted demographic is "brosef's". But the major downside to the 360 is awful hardware positioning inside the case, as well as a piss poor community. In at least every game I have entered on xbox live, I have come across at least 2 swearing prepubescent chimps. They seem to think that their incessant cursing and whining will make their "ub3r l33tness" achieve a power level of "over 9000" <me funny, me relate gakky interweb meme. me interweb savvy.> Then there's the resident "badass" because he plays left 4 dead on..... expert.... oh, dont get me started on the "commander" types. "ok dudes... lets move as a squad" and they repeat orders like 3 times. Come on dude, your not an eve online FC. so you can STFU. But with such trivial nitpicks out of the way, I have the one beef to rule them all. Once you buy a game at that 60$ console price, you proceed to have to.... PAY TO PLAY THE DAMNED THING?!?!

No wonder you guys have no money to buy a new gpu every now and again. you pay for a new one every year with the damn live subscription.

Oh, btw, I enjoy my games with AA and AF.

Pc gaming isn't a pass time. It isn't about just popping in a game and shutting down for the most part. It's a hobby. It's something which you have to keep on contributing to to get good things out of it. It also has the best games. And mods.

PC. It's not just a gaming issue, as pretty much my entire approach to electronic multimedia and entertainment is streamlined, as you'll see below:

1. I play 4x strategy games and tactical wargames against the AI almost exclusively. They rarely even make such games for consoles, which have a terrible control interface for playing them (imagine running Operation Barbarossa in Hearts of Iron 2 with a gamepad, or coordinating a regiment-sized mechanized assault in Combat Mission 2, with artillery support and suppressing fire). Western PC RPGs (Baldur's Gate 2, Elder Scrolls III / IV, KOTOR1/2, Fallout 2/3) >>>>> Japanese Console RPGs (yes, even the good ones like FF6, FF7, Secret of Mana, and Shining Force). This is partially due to the free-form nature and ease of modding (see #6).

2. I can get games for free.

3. I can play old "obsolete" games on the same system (some of them, anyway). I'm pretty sure an Xbox 360 or PS3 can't run Final Fantasy VI. My computer can run Final Fantasy VI....AND Space Empires III (although I mostly play SE4).

4. I don't watch TV, so I don't even OWN one. Using a console would require buying both the console and a TV, which also takes up even more space, and I like owning as little hardware as possible to facilitate moving. I watch all my movies on my 22" HD LCD. I "acquire" entire seasons of TV shows that I like after they get released on DVD. All of them fit on 1-2 external hard drives, which takes up a helluva lot less space than shelves full of DVD cases.

5. The equipment is dual-purpose. I can use one gadget (my PC) for all of my needs, from gaming to word processing to dabbling in 3d art. If I had a console.....I'd still need a computer anyway.

6. Oh yeah....Mods FTW!

EDIT: Oh, and at least for my needs, hardware upgrading isn't prohibitively expensive. My basic system which I just replaced was acquired in late 2004 for ~$500 (a Warrant Officer in my unit built systems, so he put my storage and media drives in a custom case with new mobo, CPU, PSU, and RAM). After that I bought 2 3D cards for ~$100 each (1 used, 1 new but kinda obsolete), a new DVD burner after my old DVD drive died (~$75), and some extra RAM (~$50). So for about twice the cost of a console I got something with way more than twice the functionality, that met my needs for nearly 5 years.

My current system also cost me about $800. A $500 refurbished Dell Slimline desktop, to which I've added a 300W PSU, 8GB of RAM, a slimline 9800GT 512MB 3d card, and a small form factor CPU heatsink/fan. It takes up very little desktop real-estate, consumes little power, and still enables me to play the games I want at pretty high settings. It's running Linux until October when I'll dual-boot it with Windows 7 so I can get back to playing those graphics-intensive games that don't run under Wine like Fallout 3 and the Total War series.

The only thing I miss is fighting games, specifically Tekken and Mortal Kombat. However, these are mostly a social experience (sitting around a TV with skilled friends, duking it out) and I don't do much socializing anymore so it's kinda a non-issue.

PC - for many reasons, including being a graphic wh0re and being able to run Crysis at ultra with texture and quality mods.

I do however play the occasional mashup like Street Fighter on consoles.

I use both. I use my PC for DoW2, CoH and my collection of WW2 games while I use my PS3 for my mindlessgames of nazi zombies, wipeout and GTA.

It's a win-win situation for me.

PCs are ok if you like messing around with them as a hobby. To keep up to date with new games you need to upgrade every year or so. Either by buying a new PC or making your own. Buying a whole new PC is expensive, and if you make a custom one you have to hope all the bits work, because if one doesn't, you're buggered.

I understand where people are coming from when they say they have more control with the mouse etc, but for gaming I MUCH prefer a console. Just whack the CD in and away you go. You don't have to worry about [censored]ing drivers or software/hardware compatibility.

When a game is available for the console and the PC I almost always get it for the console, so I guess I'm a console guy.

Why?

Because the PC is on the desk in the study and the console in the living room. My wife appreciates my gaming a lot more if I'm still in the middle of the family and not enclosed in a sideroom staring at a monitor where it's hard for the other family members to even occasionally glance to see what's going on in my game.

That said, I'm a sucker for most non-RTS strategy games (or 'RTS' games that you can give orders to in paused mode or are able to run at a snails pace), like Civilization, Europa Universalis etc. so the PC games still get some attention, as do some old classic like Fallout 1&2, Baldur's Gate, Diablo2 etc. But this I usually do when I'm home alone or when the kids have gone of to bed and my wife is soaking in the tub for an hour or 2.

Well I mostly play starcraft so.. PC. + I'm a sucker for old games =] (X-Com, Star Control, Monkey Island etc)

FPS and RTS = 100% PC. Not having a mouse is just... I don't think I could put up with it.

Fighting games are better on console, for sure!

Overall I prefer the PC, but I still enjoy games like Zelda, Mario, Tekken, SSMB etcetc.

I use both, my PS3 for FPS games etc but definately a PC for RTS games as the control system is far easier using keyboard/mouse than a game-pad

In your base, ignoring your logic.

Well daba, I hope you noticed a fair selection of NES, GBA, and DS games in there. There are only 3 Wii games out of the 20 there.

Personnally I have a PS3, a PC, and a Wii. I use my PS3 for FPS, Racing, and RPG/Adventure. My PC is my Strategy and RTS player. I used to play rainbow six on my PC, but I like my FPS on consoles now. Hell, for 5 bucks I can buy the original rainbow six and play it on my PS3.

My Wii just gathers dust. The problem being that Wii's target audience is 1 year to 100+ years so the average attention span is relatively low.

Also the PS3 does have some modded content, just not much. I think UT is the only one so far.
