Hurrah, my cold heart is warmed today. Now I have a thread to bookmark and read again and again when I'm trying to debug some horrible memory leak or similar evil bug. Thanks everyone. I'll be honest and admit my complete ignorance of all things technical, but of the forums I've visited, dakka is far and away the easiest to use.

For me, though, what keeps me coming back is that by and large this is a friendly community (yes, you get the odd troll...) and a large part of that is down to the sterling efforts of yak, lego and all the mods.

A big thanks to everyone involved - this is IMHO the best gaming site on the net.

I've lurked Dakka for a good decade; I actually joined up only last year, and ever since doing so have revived my interest in the hobby. The articles and article-galleries were what originally kept me coming back to the site as a kid interested in the hobby. Although Dakka has mutated and reincarnated itself in various ways, the recent gallery system was a real milestone. Dakka's continual stability is unlike any other site I regularly use, and every user that logs in is a credit in the name of Big Mek Legoburner. I've seen the maintainence page many a time (always on weekends, too, you rotter!), but at least it is entertaining, and never more than the promised of a 10-15 minute wait.

One day he's going to program us a Dakka Dakka interactive game. If not, we can at least complain.

As someone who's been lurking/posting on Dakka since WAAY back in the day (honestly can't remember what the hell my original login was anymore), it's amazing how much the site has changed over the years, and much more, how much the site has changed since you and yak took over from Russ.

Pretty much all the little features that've been added in the last 2 years (kind of hard to believe it's been that long already) have been great at improving and facilitating traffic on Dakka. I feel like there's definitely a larger influx of people now and the discussions and I can't imagine it wasn't in large part due to the work you and yak have put into Dakka.

The DCM's should pool together some cash to send Malf over to you as a birthday present.

I love DakkaDakka because its a place where I can talk about gaming, modeling, and some off topic stuff. So far there's been a thread in most each section that I've found interest in.

Thanks all for the kind words and birthday words. My birthday only has a couple of hours left in my timezone now though so time to put this thread out to pasture in the depths of OT. I got some books, anno 1404 game (which is great), and best of all a new airbrush and compressor, so will be having some fun with that over the coming months No more basecoating for me!

No fair, I get to be the first OTer on the B-Day Thread because my Time Zone Sucks!

I started visiting Dakka a few months, maybe even a year, before the switchover, Dakka was good then. Dakka is even better now. Thank you and Yak for all the time and trouble you go through to keep improving and maintaining DD.

I've only been here a few months but I love it. I have a hard time sticking with internet forums because I lose interest. Thankfully, Dakka isn't one of those. This website is one or four I visit religiously. Hell, multiple times per day.

Alles gut zum Geburtstag, Legoburner!


I really, really like that Dakka is a place where everyone can speak their mind (as long as they are generally polite) and post about anything wargaming related. There are no idiotic restrictions like "power armor only" or "orks only" or "Games Workshop only." If it's about wargaming, it's cool here. We can express ourselves as we like, and we can have some pretty interesting and useful discussions on multiple mini-related topics. The painting and modeling section is always good for inspiration and I love how fast I can get a modeling and painting question answered (even if I have paint drying or green stuff curing as I'm posting!)

I also love the gallery! So far, the coding seems way better than CMON, and I really like the way the Turbovoter works. I hope that someday the content in the Dakka Gallery will be able to rival or surpass the stuff that's on CMON.


Having said that, everyone should get out and vote in the Dakka Gallery!
