Easily the best looking 'Crons I've seen. That deciever-lord is amazing. Well done!

Always liked to see real "Undead" Necrons.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Very very nice, makes me want to do Necrons! Does make me wonder what other paint schemes may look good on them

In a world gone mad, who is left to fight for truth, justice and all that gets you smashed for under a fiver....

First played 40k during 2nd edition, missed out 3rd and 4th, and haven't played 40k since 5th edition - but still read and occasionally paint

Excellent stuff. I clicked on this thread thinking "Bone Necrons? Really?!", but you've definitely made it work.

This is really great stuff. I'm using the same colours for a Khorne Lord (aka Bone Lord).

This is very similar to the ceramic paint schemes suggested in the codex. One of those i think is very very close to this one. I am just still really pleased with how that deceiver conversion turned out.

Lukus83 wrote:Well it could be just the quality of the photo, but he after taking a really close look I think it's the head of the lord that's bothering me. It looks like it lacks detail (just white unlike the warriors where I can actually make out the eyes and shading).

It's not a great photo. I've attached some more below from a better angle so you can make out the highlighting properly. The cheeky grin in the 2nd photo was unintentional, lol.

Here's a shot of the whole army so far.

I like em because it makes me think that these are what the necrons look like "fresh off the factory floor". The traditional silver ones are the ones the orcs accidentally dug up, after all the paint had been chipped off.

Yeah, that army will look amazing when it is done. Makes me rethink what i want to paint when i get some more money....

I stand corrected. With the new pic I can see the lords details and it's inspiring work. A really great army, and I wish you luck with it on the battlefield and a new codex promptly.

Great stuff!

Any chance you can whip up a tutorial for that lovely glossy red?

Whne I played Chaos I used to get a red like that by painting the area red gore, the highlight with blood red, and then do a couple coats of red wash (what ever it is called now lol) and it just SHINES!

Thanks for all the lovely comments people, it's much appreciated!

The_Chaplain wrote:Any chance you can whip up a tutorial for that lovely glossy red?

It's pretty simple. Undercoat of white, scab red, blood red then highlighting on edges with a 50/50 Blood Red/Skull White mix. After that I added several coats of red ink mixed with GW Water Effects, though any shiny varnish or gloss would do.

MauleedlovesYakeface wrote:I think some green flocking on the bases and red eyes would complete the model though.

The bases need a little something perhaps, yes. But they were kept mainly dark and grey for contrast and in order to make the models pop a bit more. Necrons need all the help to pop they can get. I agree with you about the eyes. The reason I haven't painted the eyes is because I'm terrible with small details.

I think a little green on the base for grass would not take away from the base. Also with the eyes. Get a fine detail brush and just go over the parts on it that are light. Just a tap of red on the top of each eye would be good. Leave the back of they eyes the way they are.

I'm gonna join the bandwagon and submit another vote for awesome! Very nice!

I tried to convince my son to paint his 'crons in the white/blue combination, but he wanted traditional metals...

Great color choice for a traditionally drab looking army. Those colors always go well together as evidenced by old Deathwing models.

I tried to do something similar with a more Phantom Menace droid army color, but the brown was too dark. Nice to see something different executed in a clean style.

For the bases you could consider the brownish Woodland Scenic static grass. Should provide a nice transition from the bone of the minis with the blasted heath/granite look of the bases. Just use it sparingly.

That's not a bad idea at all, good call. I might look into putting some, er, 'stick uppy' grass on there.

These guys look amazing, and I too have had a simmilar idea for the Tomb Kings Ushabti weapons, that said no just the weapongs but the whole Ushabti it's self. Not entirly sure what I'm going to do yet but necrons aren't on my to-do list yet.

Very nice looking army you have.

How will you do the crystal on top of the Monolith? Have you painted it and glossed the hell out of it, or have you made one yourself?
