I would rather buy three of the strike forces, couple assault terminators boxes, and 2 or 3 devastator boxes and get effectively the same kit that's more flexible, cheaper, and the same number of guys for about $250 less.

I dont see why people are complaining about there being no other huge box set other than space marines. I mean would anyone buy a 1K boxed army that gives you a ton of limitations and no savings?

Be thankful they only did this to marines, at least the eldar and nid sprues are being put into individual boxes.

Box sets like this are a bonanza for GW re-sellers, especially the individual bitz sellers. Probably why the savings are restricted compared to purchasing individual squads/vehicles.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Yes I concur, I'm sure if you were to look around on the internet you could find some savings but, a grand Is still a lot of money at least to me it is.

It's not like GW is actually losing anything with this. Isn't it all stuff that's currently in production anyway?

The contents of the Spear of Sicarius, bought separately at Maelstrom, come to £ 527.42, which is equal to $ 856.16 (USD).

So, no. Quite a bit less than $1000.

A new day, a new time zone.

The free shipping worldwide makes them one of the best resellers to buy from, especially with the current advantage in $ to GPB conversion.

Of course, some people are just being silly in their shilling, and harping on the point about them being cheaper than GW is just silly, since one of the main strategies of their business model is selling minis at a discount to retail, it doesn't matter what price GW sells at, Maelstrom will always be cheaper.

Maelstrom has competitive discounts on Industrial Towers and Space Corridors. What's not to love?

Either way, Spear of Sicarius is a stupid waste of time. If you bought that much from a LGS at 0% discount, I'm sure that most places would at least give you a bulk discount. Thus GW prices this set into oblivion. Did they not factor in that the lack of choice in what you're getting in such a big package (please don't giggle) has to be balanced out by monetary savings?

Sock puppets are frightening things, ranking right up there with clowns, demons and Ryan Seacrest.

And no, we're not paid anything for our constant plugs. We're just trying to educate and help the community at large that they don't need to buy GW, and can in fact buy from somewhere that is A). Far cheaper and B). Ships free anywhere in the world, which is a huge deal the further away from England you get.

Canonness Rory wrote:GW recently released the "Spear of Sicarius" for nearly 1100 dollars. It is meant to be an attacking army for planetstrike.
As to be expected, they only released it for marines. There is no "Ulthwe's shadowy wall" or "Tau rapid-response force" this is going to get people complaining.
It is to be expected that GW favors space marines, they sell the best, so in order to stay in business, they have to keep them updated and advertised.
But how much work would it takes to at least PRETEND that they care about the other 10 armies?
They didn't make any new kits for this release, they just piled a bunch of already made stuff together and probably sliced 5 bucks off the price so they could claim it was a deal.
Couldn't they get a squad of dire avengers, 4-5 guardians, an autarch, and some dark reapers together in a box?

Secondly, who will buy this?
Anybody who is serious enough about the hobby to spend 1100 dollars on it is going to want to customize their army.
Anybody who wants an army pre-made for them is not going to have time to assemble and paint what I suspect to be around 2000 points of ultramarines. (you could get it cheaper pre-painted on ebay ffs)

Who thinks the Spear of Sicarius was a good idea for GW?

Your whining about not getting to pay 1100 dollars for 1100 dollars? Just walk walk in to any store, stack up 1100.00 of eldar, tau, or whatever, and ask for a deal. It'll be a better deal than the SoS box.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

QFT. Though depending on policy, you might get cash savings or bonus models etc.

When I used to work at the FLGS, we had an unofficial policy that staff could add 'bonuses' up to the value of (IIIRC) 10% on any purchase larger than a couple of hundred dollars, if they were or looked like they'd become a good ongoing customer, or a potential new player. If the purchase was especially large, (or they were especially nice) we could consult with the manager for more too.

The extras were often primer/glue/paints/brushes (because, let's face it, if you've just bought several hundred dollars worth of models, you'll likely be needing some of the above), but IC's for new armies were a popular bonus as well, or extra option blisters for a unit they'd just bought.

Wah wah wah. Suck it up.

IIRC, Space Marines alone currently outsell the entirety of the fantasy range. Are you really saying that GW should do less to encourage the purchase of their most popular models?

What they should do is encourage the purchase of ALL their models to make them more popular.

I'm guessing the SoS is in a large part a stunt to get people thinking about planetstrike and drop pods.

Actual sales are secondary.

The Emperor doesn't seem to do much for you but you sure are expected to be mutilated, suffer, and die to make him happy. And is he dead or what? If he's entombed that would mean he's dead as a doornail, right? So, how can he be happy about anything you do, or even give orders to anyone? Are you worshipping the dead now? Is that something you'd really want to do? Because it sounds freaking creepy to me.

What I am saying is that if GW had less of a hard-on for Space Marines and instead gave equal support to all armies, a more balanced sales trend would emerge. What do you have against other races getting updates anyway?

Maelstrom's cool, but I buy from a place that's overall cheaper, even when you consider the fact that they're Canadian. Which is saying a lot when you look at just how rediculous GW's Canadian prices are(really GW, the Canadian dollar is not equal to .66USD anymore).

hey guys i did a bit of research and begging my local GW the reason there is no saving on the box (its 600 here)
is to stop people making a profit by selling the box sets inside sepretlyon ebay cause they have had that problem before thats the reason why its so expensive.
so GW doesnt lose money so they can stil make great stuff.

tbh if i had the money i would get the set its better then trying to figure out what you want to buy why not get a huge box with in (if ur making a full chapter like me it Hail the MONEY POOL

And you believed that, hey?

Just go and buy everything in that set from a discounter if you want it so much. It makes no sense to buy it at full price.

I've seen what 'the spear' looks like and it's not much to look at, basically a big cardboard box filled with countless grey sprues and a tiny, shiny piece of metal that is Sicarius.
As has been said in the previous posts, this kit's more for showing off at convention and what not.
Oh, and I agree with Jackson Highlander, 1000 orks would be fun!
