Isn't there another thread that basically did this? Whatever, I'm a sucker for a thread that lets me brag withotu looking like I'm doing so.

Phoenix games, Atlanta

1. Tri-lith + Deceiver Necrons, me
2. Kan Wall Orks, Primarch
3. Space Marines, non-dakka-ite

Giga Bytes cafe, Atlanta

1. generic Chaos Space Marines, non-dakka-ite
2. Land Raider heavy Space Marines, not sure of his SN
3. Twin lash CSM, Player A

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Couple of surprises here.

a. Demon Hunters. Wow. I wonder if the player utelized the ally rules.
b. No Dark Eldar? I figured with all the mech lists anticipated, a good old fashioned 30+ Dark Lance army would have been spotted.
c. Good to see Space Marines finally getting some top spots. Marines and Orks: the classic match up in 40K.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

2nd - Mech Space Wolves (Me) ------ Only had 2 Raiders, and two rhinos. I did have a kitted WG Term Unit.
3rd - Tank Spam IG ------ Like 13 tanks overall, cant remember exact mix. Had DH allies LR and a Psychic Hood.
4th - Nidzillas ------ Never really got to check the army out fully. Maxxed out on Big Bugs, and Warriors. No Genestealers!!?!?!?

All in all a good tourny. I think there needs to be some way to regulate who uses the most of the 2.5 hrs you are allowed for play time. The only game I didnt win/massacre was the first game and we had to call it @ turn three because my opponent took like 30+ minutes to take each of his turns. I am all for some friendly chatter during games or even local tournies, but when there is a strict 2.5 hr limit on a 6 turn game it's gotta be less chatter more splatter. I had some friends go to Borderlands in Greenville. I will see if I can get the winners from there and post um up.

Yeah, thats pretty much what I would have expected. Orks and Vulkan Marines both scale up very very well. IG and Eldar just a bit behind them then Chaos and Nids. Interesting that demons did not show up more. I did not see a single Demon player in my area and they seem to be very lightly represented overall. With the power of some of the better demon builds, that suprises me a bit. Nids did better than I would have expected as well with all the Mech out there.

I think Orks may be the army to beat once again just with a different build than last year. I agree that it pretty much proves all the nay sayers about the ork codex badly wrong. That is a powerful book with numersous very strong builds. I think a lot of players dismissed orks coming into this and paid the price.

You, sir, just made my day. Now I just need a few dozen Ork codex haters to come to that same conclusion.

Sarigar wrote:Demon Hunters. Wow. I wonder if the player utelized the ally rules.

Yes. I started to mark that down on the original list, but I thought there might have been a purist or two as well. Maybe there will be yet. Suppose you could mark it as .75 and give another .25 to IG, but I'll give 'em the benefit of doubt.

Hmmm,

Seems all the "OMFG the IG are so Broken, run away ..." talk has shown not to be the case, just as the " Orks can compete, they are tier 3" talk was bunk.

I really like how marines and orks , the two poster children of 40k are leading the pack while Chaos, IG, Demons, Nids and Eldar are all running about equal in their shadow. To me this seems to show a pretty balanced field with most of the major codexes having the ability to compete. As Orks and Marines are more forgiving armies with more variations on solid builds they have more representation in the top but I personally do not think any of the top 6 races lack the ability to go all the way or compete at the highest level with multiple solid builds.

I still think JetCouncil Eldar is the army to beat because so few people see it and can prepare against or practice against it. The very rarity of the army is one of its greatest advantages.

QFT. I dread facing Eldar council with my Tau. I think I might get lucky in the semis since no one around here knows of anyone playing them... of course, with only two semis in the Northeast, we'll probably get a couple of people from "away" as we say up here in Maine...

Cheap? If you mean the AoBR boxset. Sure the boxset is cheap, but my army was able to utelize 11 Orks and 1 Deff Kopta and 2 Nobz out of that boxset. 151 points out of a 2500 point list. If you mean cheap as in lots of plastic, yes. Except for 3 Killa Kanz, 1 Deff Dread, 1 Big Mek and Ghaz, my army was plastic. Quite the bargain priced Ard Boyz army
