Of the 35 SM players listed it would be a safe bet to say 20 or so of them will be Vulcan lists. Probably should have made a seperate "Salamanders" listing.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee.

Messing around with this data. Note if there are duplicates in the thread they were counted as I ignored context (but not quotes of course).

Army Rankings based on top 3 finishes. I gave an army 3 points for a win, 2 points for 2nd and 1 point for third place:

Orks = 65
Space Marines = 62
Chaos = 44
IG = 43
Eldar = 36
Nids = 34
Demons = 27
Tau = 16
Necrons = 13
Dark Eldar = 8
Black Templars = 8
Blood Angels = 8
Space Wolves = 7
Daemon Hunters = 2
Dark Angels = 1

Number of first place finishes:

IG = 11
Orks = 11
Space Marines = 11
Eldar = 7
Chaos = 7
Nids = 6
Demons = 6
Necrons =3
Dark Eldar = 2
Space Wolves = 1
Blood Angels = 1
Templars = 1
Tau = 0
Daemon Hunters = 0
Witch Hunters = 0
Dark Angels = 0

Interesting that IG didn't see as many top 3 placings as Orks, Chaos or Marines but still managed to come in first the most (three way tie with Orks and Marines). Tau got shutout of first place.

I think a lot of these stats really tell us what is popular over what is really good. As the competition gets better in the later rounds it will be interesting to see if the numbers change. I have a feeling Vanilla Marines and Orks won't be as plentiful.

Mr Nash, that's an interesting take on this 'data'.

It does appear that IG and several other lists have a significant (at least based on this 'sampling') advantage for doing well at the regional level over other more 'popular' lists.

It will indeed be interesting to see how it shakes down. I believe you are making a solid prediction.

Using the above several posts, I thought of a system for determining the potency of a given army by taking the points given by Kevin's calculus and dividing it by manimal's results. Here's the results, gained by dividing points from the calculus by manimal's numbers, in order from what is "revealed" to be the topmost weighted army to the least weighted. Obviously those with low showings, particularly deamonhunters and dark angels, should be taken with a grain of salt, but I must say, some of the top armies are VERY interesting.

IG 2.388888889
Eldar 2.25
Chaos Space Marines 2.2
Necrons 2.166666667
Orks 2.096774194
Demons 2.076923077
Black Templars 2
Blood Angels 2
Dark Eldar 2
Deamonhunters 2
Nids 2
Tau 1.777777778
Space Marines 1.771428571
Space Wolves 1.4
Dark Angels 1

So, I must say that I agree with everyone else. We may lose A LOT of marine players this next go around. I'll bet that no one would think that the top 5 would look anything like that.

Food for thought,
Kitzz
