Sort of heard of it but historical gaming never really appeals to me. I prefer being able to have more flexible and wacky conversions and models.

I mean come on, you won't find a guy in huge armour with massive limbs slung over and under his shoulders manning a cannon that should be on a massive tank.

Not to say I don't respect historical gaming but it just never appealed to my addiction to large and science fiction guns and warfare.

I'd like to try it, but the tiny scale and the model quality turns me off. I look into the blister packs and I see a dozen guys with bent rifles.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

The official Flames models are among the best-looking 15mm scale models available.

About the only way to do better looks-wise would to be to game with 1/144 or 1/72 scale models.

Flames of War is my favorite miniatures game, and also the game I've played the most of. I've got a few different armies in various stages of completion (I consider my Afrika Korps army "fully painted," but I'm still adding units to it from time to time).

While not everyone likes the style, Battlefront's quality is top of the line for 15mm. There are other companies that have nice stuff too - I like Peter Pig's stuff, and while Old Glory can't really match either company for quality, they are decent and you get a lot of them for a good price.

If there are bent guns in a pack from Battlefront, all you have to do is (surprise!) bend them back. Pewter is a very bendable metal, I've had to bend stuff back into the right position many times, on miniatures from pretty much every company I've ever bought from. Saying that a pack of metal miniatures from any company has bent pieces is an indicator of low quality is kind of making a big deal out of nothing.

QFT, Hordini.

I've got a bunch of cheapo Old Glory, and they don't hold a candle to the BF minis.

BTW, how do you unbend a barrel after a dog has chewed it into a pretzel?

I think most of the infantry models look down right stupid.

When the models are only 1/2 inch tall, they're going to have to be a bit cartoonish if you want to be able to tell one from another.

Not interested.

I gave up playing WW2 in 15mm in the 80s.
I prefer rayguns with my tanks (and giant robots).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

I played it once at my buddy's house, drunk, and managed a win. I had a good time and it was a lot of fun, but I prefer the rank and file armies in fantasy gaming and the insanity of Orks to the historical stuff. I got out of the historical stuff years back when you'd show someone a model and they had to let you know all of your minutiae mistakes about what kind of bucket handles the Germans used or some other nonsense rather than commenting on the paint job.

Flames of War hooked me into historicals. A friend set up an all tank desert battle. It was great.

Initially the infantry figures put me off. But the tanks and artillery make up for it.

Plus you can get companies of infantry done in the time it takes to do a single unit of 28mm anything.

From tabletop height, all you see if the infantry is thier helmets and rifles. Details make no difference.

IMO, It is the overall look of the army that you need to go for with 15mm stuff.

For whoever mentioned WWII skirmish, look into NUTS! from twohourwargames. Its written to enable solo as well as multiplayer.

I love flames of war. I wasn't really into it at first, but my roommate is a huge history buff and he wanted to try it out. I'm so glad I did. The models look good, it's fairly cheap, plays well, and I'm actually not afraid to try and paint them. Definitely a winner for me.

A friend made a good point: WW2 eventually ended so the armies are limited and the historical battles will run out.

40k, Fantasy, Warmachine... those can keep going forever.

There is a place beneath those ancient ruins in the moor…

I dont think WW2 running out is an issue. We have already seen some of the theoretical vehicles as game options (ones that never saw action, or never even existed). There has been a vietnam range already so extension into korean and cold war periods is feasible in the long run. Most of the world participated in WW2 in some fashion so there is no shortage of armies, combat theatres, etc. Many, many decades of releases just for WW2 are still in the works I think.

Collected an army but never got to play a game. Sold army off to support my 40k hobby.

Love the models and the idea of playing miniature WWII. Just never found anyone to play around here.

I was into the game a couple of years ago now (have a German Pioneer and Panzer Company, and an American Infantry Company), but have since completely dropped out of it. I have a bunch of minis and am ever so slowly painting them. I'd like to get back into it at some point, but most of the gaming groups that I've seen play more 40K or Fantasy.

I'd really like to start it. I heard about it, and thought it looked cool, but never actually got around to getting it. I'll probably get the starter set to learn the actual rules first.

Wanted to try it, but when i saw the models I was put off. they're so tiny! there's absolutely Zero following for it in any of the gaming circles i have played in, which is another big turn off. Idk, I would play it if i could find people, but it just reminds me of my mom's friend back in the day who was super obsessed with WW1 flying simulators and stuff. Way too obsessed over something that's already over

LOL exactly!

Flames of war is Warhammer... or maybe worse...

Assaults kill everything, shooting occasionally causes problems. But realism?

Uh, how bout this:

Infantry ALL essentially get a 3+ invulnerable cover save, every where, all the time, even when they force march, in the open, surrounded, on a road and are poorly trained conscripts being fired at by 6 inch artillery. It's ridiculous.

Currently building up a 15th Scots Division army, as well as a demo force, 8 Panzer IV H's against 8 Cromwells and a trio of Stuart V's. Tanks are great for demos - their rules are straight forward, so you can get a person hooked before getting them into the intricacies of how infantry, artillery and aircraft work.
