I just started playing Italian Bersaglieri in FoW recently and I love the rules, I think they are written better than 40k's rules. I also like how the battles felling like larger scale battles than in 40k.

I used to play it quite a bit back in 1st edition... 3 full kompanies of germans, Tanks, Pioneers, and an inworks Fallshirmjager force that is ready to base and paint.

I took a hiatus from gaming for several years and have yet to pick it up again since I have returned.

I'm a military history junkie anyway and I'd love to play FoW, but my 40k friends all curse me for suggesting they spend money on another game

Get them to play Tank Companies, then point them towards Old Glory's Command Decision range!

I'm interested in starting. I picked up a Panzer IV Ausf G and a German rifle platoon to see how the minis were, and so far I'm impressed.

I'll have to paint them, buy the rulebook, etc before I really get into it though.

Some of the figures are pumpkin-headed monsters, but there are always other manufacturers. Some of the vehicles are outscale and made of play-do, but again, I can shop around. The rules are reasonably functional and the books attractive, but every so often something ridiculous happens that destroys the flow of the game. I feel house-rule adjustments coming on.

If I heard of flames of war before 40k, I would have defiantly gotten flames of war because I love the History of WWII (As stated in another post)

(Story coming up)-I was at my local wargamming Club (Well not local, about and hour away lol) and I just arrived. And I saw a table set out with this beautiful 15mm farm/village terrian set out, so I had a look around the table and John came around (the Tables host) and said "Would you like to play". So I was right keen to do so. With my urging of asking "Oh are you sure, I've never played".

And he tought me how to play (I played a German Panzer Compony and he played a Russian Guards Tank Battalion, and he should me how the game worked, and I ended up winning to his 'astonishment', but without his help I probably would have ran my two tigers off the board and shot my own men with my Nebbleweffers lol.

I see FoW as a rule set for which you can buy official models for, if you want to.

I'm not all that interested in playing it, but I'm glad that it's out there. I see some guys around the shop that I might not meet normally, and get to see their cool terrain and minis. I'm also intrigued to see the larger scale version that's supposedly in the works. Other games own my time, but I'd definitely not mind watching some 28mm FoW played.

28mm FoW? Haven't heard of that yet!

I've played 3 games so far: my British 50th Rifles vs. my Friend Fallschirmjagers. Games are currently 2-1 me, but I think that'll change in the next game.

Btw, ambushing PaK 40's vs Cromwells and a Firefly = 2nd turn dead platoon.

The game is so much fun, especially coming from a 40k background. Things just... make sense. Assaults are where the game is made, which is cool, especially how assaults are decided in 1 round.

I play Cold War Commander (modern lists) in 15mm. Uses a lot of the same core rules from Epic as FoW, but from what I understand about FoW, CWC is far more simplified.

Plus you don't get all the history freaks that throw a tantrum if their side loses a battle that it won in reality.

I'm looking for somewhere near me to try it out first. The mini's look ace and what rules I've read seem pretty cool too. Just want to play it first before I commit to anything!

I really like the game itself, but the average quality of the models combined with the fact that the painting isnt too rewarding put me off. Offcourse, I paint/model much more then I play so..

Staying on target.....

Already got a King tiger, 2 StuG-III's (from the starter set) and a box of The Plastic Soldier Companies Panzer IV's. Once I have most of my other projects almost there then I shall start upon them with gusto.

English Russia.

It's yet another money grabbing organisation like GW.

the fact that some GW personalities write articles for Wargames Illustrated is telling (it's a wargames magazine descreetly run by battlefront minatures, i encourage you not to buy it0

The figures are proportioned all wrong. They have massive heads and tiny bodies, their vehicles are stunted and squashed.

Their rules are bland generic crap and have loads of supplements to make you spend more money with them.

You want to play 15mm WW2, buy from independant manufactures such as peter pig or the plastic soldier company, both do superior sculpted figures at a cheeper price.

Play independant rules such as Panzer Grenedier or Rapid fire, both sets are more intersting and give a feel to the game, you are playing the period with these, whereas with FOW you are playing the system.

I have a Rapid fire Russian tank division and Panzer Division and managed to get them both new cheaper than 1 FOW army.

Battlefront are the GW for the historical market, and judging by how close GW and battlefront seem to be they are either in partnership or are owned by the same people. There is an air of the 'old boys club' involved.

I recommmend avoiding it at all costs and taking some time and effort to find a ruleset you really like and suits your needs and find some better figures for a cheaper price.

Just IMHO.

Oh man, the first monster I see I'm going to sneak up behind him, whip out my wand, and shoot my magic all over his ass.
