Wow. Someone put a lot of words in my mouth. They should probably try to keep their own prejudices out of my posts. And there wasn't a single damn thing that was "insensitive" about my earlier post.

The reasons why so much Chinese product is crap has nothing to do with Chinese people.

When you design a product, there is usually a lot of back and forth dialogue between designers, engineers and manufacturers. This is hindered when sending mold work overseas. The language barrier and lack of an easy way to get face-to-face communication with the people who are building the product almost guarantees misunderstanding.

Couple that with mold makers who are, generally speaking, less experienced than their Western counterparts and you have a recipe for trouble. The experience will work itself out over time, but the language and communication barriers are tougher.

It is a fact that more of this work is coming back to the US after people had less-than-favorable experiences overseas. It's not because we're jingoistic @$$holes who hate other nations. It's just that sending work overseas ended up looking better on paper than it did in real life. You have to send someone over there for weeks or months at a time when starting up a new project to make sure it gets done right. Not because the Chinese can't figure it out, but because that's the way it's always been done. When the mold maker was in the same town as the designer, the two of them would communicate constantly. It's the same with China, only more expensive.

And as for vacuum forming, it IS a lousy way to get good surface detail. That's it. I don't care what country the mold is in. I never said it was a Chinese mold. You did. Keep your racism in your own posts and out of mine. And learn to read what's written, not what the voices in your head tell you is there.

And as for the blastscape craters, those appear to be thermoformed (vacuum formed) rather than molded, which would explain the crappy surface detail.

Emperor's Ignorant Blather, that's a load of bull.

Chinese molds are fine, and for most toys, they can probably do a better job of it than a bunch of Brits.

At least if Trumpeter is anything to go by.

The blastscape craters are GW's decision, not "China"

Clarification: "bunch of Brits" = GW, not Emhar!

Maybe CHinese can do better at making bits. I'm not sure since I'm not an expert, but I don't really trust the Chinese in making it.

My beef with GW is very simple- they must make a fortune in marginal revenue because although their methods of casting the sprues may be relatively expensive to other methods they are still selling a hunk of unpainted, unclipped, plastic for exorbitant prices all over the globe. The contention that a titan (which is the smoothest and least detailed model FW produces) would be too costly fro GW to turn a profit, blows my mind!

I have a love /hate relationship with anything green.

How many people would actually do a decent paint job on a titan I wonder, I mean if you pay $150 or thereabouts for a titan (my guess as to the poss future price) I would want to spend hours getting it to look good and I can imagine it being a fairly boring job. I would ban people fielding unpainted titans as they would look rubbish in grey or just undercoated.

Sensitive user is sensitive.

The fact that old posts are on the front doesn't bother me, it's the people that go "Oh I just won't check the last date and go ahead posting something useless. What's this? Popup before I submit that warns me about the age of the last post, and how I probably shouldn't post this? Meh, probably nothing. I'll click through it... HEYYY! Someone left me a nasty 'Thread Necro' card! Sure I skipped the multitude of chances to avoid it, but it's still meeeeeean!"

Reporting a necro post is like calling the police because someone stole your garden gnomes. Go ahead and try that sometime, see how they recieve it.

If the fact that this forum's users like to keep it's threads clean, and leave the old threads where they belong, bothers you, feel free to go. We won't stop you.

And we call the 40K Rulebook the BRB because... well... It's Big, it's Red on the cover, and it's a Book. Hence: BRB. If you're still playing with the BGB, then you need to update to 5th ed. The 5th Ed rulebook fits the same description, and Dakka's tooltip just hasn't been updated with it.

If you want to complain about people that counter against Thread Necromancy, start a thread about it. Don't quote a user's post, then tell them that they're being annoying by posting that, AND THEN say you aren't directing it at them. Big contradiction there.

I'm not a mean person. But if you're going to single out my post because it basically said "Old thread, stop posting", use words like 'you' and 'yourself' (which implies your response is directed at me) and then say "Not directed at you..." that's like saying "Shut the up (insert name here), then when that person gets mad, saying "Oh i wasn't talking to you when I said that."

I don't like posting these kinds of replies and making myself look like "That guy", but singling someone out, and then waving the white flag immediately after because you know a reply will be coming isn't cool, and won't make you many friends here.

Nah, not waving the white flag, just didn't mean to direct that only at you because you're far from the only one that does it. Hence the not at you in particular. If you took that to mean something else, well far from the first time I didn't express myself clearly enough. Also, reporting people posting in old threads does work because I see them closed all the time, so I don't know what you're going on about there. Many times even when the new post is relevant and continues a discussion, though they've gotten slightly better about that lately. If you see differently, well I certainly don't.

Anyway, my whole point is if someone bumps a post with nothing useful at all it will die, and if it actually continues a discussion, albeit an old one, it will stay on the front page where it now belongs because people are discussing it again. So if you hate seeing old threads brought up, just report it and stop bumping it, it's counter productive to what you're trying to do to do otherwise. Especially if you believe that mods aren't locking these sorts of threads.

As for telling me to go, well no, I rather like it here and the good outweighs the bad on this site. But I will certainly criticize in the hopes that things might change and someone with the ability to change them will pay attention. If I don't speak up I have no right to be offended or bothered by something whether it's a large or small issue.

As for the book thing, that was hoenstly just a comical bonus complaint, but seriously, the 40K book is gray with a red picture on the front, it's still a gray book and the fantasy book is still a red book. That I'll admit bothers me more than it sensibly should at all, but the damn book is gray. I'm looking at it right now.

As for making friends, I've been reading Dakka for about a year by this point and been a member for almost as long, so I'm far from new. Whether people like me or not, don't really know, but I am positive I am not despised.

That all being said you do have two valid points that came up in your response. One is people posting through the, 'you're posting to an old thread' message. If they're not adding anything to it then yeah, they shouldn't ignore it, but the way old threads are moderated around here I don't even know why threads aren't automatically locked after 30 days as that seems to be the way the mods and admins want things to be. But yeah, someone posting in a months old thread to go, 'Cupcakes!', well yeah, I think we both know where they can go.

Secondly, I probably should've posted this in a new thread, but it seemed and still seems more relevant to continue it here. As it's preceded by case and point.

Think I said my piece, but yeah, if you got the impression I was going, 'Go feth yourself picture poster', I wasn't. When people do that it definitely annoys me, and yes that means when you did it too, but it was hardly a go feth yourself moment and it was directed towards everyone that does it. I also have no problem with telling people to go feth themselves if you look at my post history, when I act civil and don't say go feth yourself it's not because I'm trying to be a smiling sarcastic asshat. It's because I deliberately am being civil and in a case like this just annoyed.

Now I'm rambling however, so I shall wander away. No hard feelings either, and I hope you can understand me better now.

Sure moulds are expensive (VERY expensive) but I can almost 95% confirm in the future there will be a plastic warhound titan. Look how many people get them off FW despite their bank-breaking prices, and look how many people bought plastic baneblades/stormlords. Also the stompa was released. I can also almost confirm a plastic thunderhawk. (100th post woot!)

I would be very interested to hear your reasoning behind 'almost confirming' those two. For such large models that would require such complex sprues (resin titan weapons can be cast as a single pieces, but think of how many pieces they would need to be broken down into in order to replicate that in plastic) it's hard to imagine they'd be able to cost effectively make a model that would equal the FW version in cost and detail.

I agree there would be allot of sprues, but before apoc you would have thought GW would never make a baneblade or a stompa for exactly the same reasons.

Hardly the same thing at all. Also, two problems both those kits encountered during development (allegedly) was reducing them to few enough sprues to keep production cost effective. IIRC, that was one of the sources of big delay for the Stompa.

Big hull pieces take up a great deal of sprue space in terms of volume, so the bigger the model, the bigger the problem sprue count is.

Finally, there's sales predictions. How much is it costing them to keep producing the resin models vs how fast they're selling. Then, how much would it cost to make those models in plastic, how quickly are they likely to sell, how long before GW starts making money on them?

All they need is a box with a cheap poor quality base inside and instructions on how to cut up the box to make the titan. Of course the box art will show a custom built titan made by a professional modeller on top of a highly detailed version of the cheap base.
