Having gone to Baltimore Gamesdays back in the late 90's when it was a two day gaming bonanza, the footage of them wheeling the cake into GD09 was shocking. So much open space, ZERO open gaming tables, it's become a shadow of it's former self. Very sad.

But the cake was incredible!

You know, by calling it a video game convention they probably did us all a favor, seeing as how tabletop gaming is ten times sadder and nerdier. If anything they made us look less weird.

Except for those prepubescent fethers that have to scream "WAAAGH!" all the time.

I was also suprised by the lack of Waaagh-ing bodies at such a large convention. I am thinking that cake was brought in during the preview night (if there was any). Probabaly during the set-up stage of the convention. Too bad the photo in the first post doesn't really show the goblin inside the Squigg. My wife wasn't suprised to hear the Waagh as she experienced it first hand a couple of times already.

The cake was brought in at about 11 am, I think, on the actual Games Day. Right in the middle of it. They use the big halls now, and have the seminars and such in different rooms. You saw a very small slice of the set up on the tv show. You didn't see the two mile long Forge World line, for instance.

This may be a stupid question or I may be missing something, but are you saying that is an actual cake?

Oh no, it's for eating too. Not all of it, but there is an edible part. The fondant gets pealed off (it's not edible) exposing the part of the cake that you eat. All of the 'cakes' that Charm City Cakes make, at least some portion, are for eating.

As I said in the other thread, I was one of those who partook of the Squig cake.

Squig is a little on the dry side, to be honest. Although again, as we said in the other thread, it makes sense that the cake would be on the dry side.

TiVo's directory info has it listed as 'Big Red Squib' for some reason. Wish they had gotten it right...

I watched it tonight with my girlfriend. As others have said, i think it was pegged as a 'video game character' because EA was footing the bill... Does GW spend $500 on a marketing opportunity?

However, I wish they had known about it. With a little work a lot of the modelers could be new hires for Duff, after all. i'd also like to show him that some of the original versions of the critter were pretty tiny minis...

Also, Fondant is edible, it just isn't the tastiest, as it's pretty much pure sugar.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

I missed the squig cake because I made the mistake of getting in the Forge World line. Incidentally FW had nothing I was looking for.

I missed eating the cake because I was busy packing up my model display. That took an hour with 4 people assisting me since I had six tables to pack up. Only later did I find out I could have eaten cake too.

I hope Games Day next year is back to its usual glory. The highlight should not be a partner video game vendor, GW's main events and products should be the focus and the most spectacular things at Games Day. Normally, they are. This year was an unfortunate exception.

HA! It was absolutely for eating. I had 3 pieces. We got our Minas Tirith table into the trailer, and then stood around for 20 minutes eating squig. It fed a lot of people, and there was still a ton left. Right at the end, everyone was leaving, and it was still about 1/3 left, and no one had touched the toes and teeth. My buddies started making a pile of them to take home to my kids.

The teeth were so good. Some unholy mix of egg whites, butter, and pure sugar. Very creamy. Each one was about an inch in diameter and several inches long. I gave one each to my 3 year old twin girls. They were in heaven, and totally sugar buzzed.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

I too was a little miffed by the whole, video game convention talk. But if you watch it, you never really see anything (aside from a few convention goers), that was not related directly to the video game. This leads me to beleive that there was some sort of restriction placed on the use of anything games workshop, with the exception of the video game itself. Having worked in marketing, I can't tell you how many weird things can happen if you show the wrong person's stuff without their consent. Also, EA probably wanted all the attention to be focused on the fact that it was specifically for their game (hence, a squig herder, which you don't actually have in the minatures game, at least not in the way it was portrayed here). There were probably a lot of stupid red tape things going on here, but the fact is, we knew, we were happy to see that warhammer was getting some press, and it was a cool cake!

Great job to the ace of cakes crew!!!

We do indeed have squig herder models. We however do not have the option of a Battle Squig... However this makes me want to make one for a counts as Goblin Warboss on Giant Squig >

Fondant(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fondant) is most definitely editable and the cake was eaten, for sure.

I dont mean that their sad. I just mean that they probably arent the happiest things in warhammer. how would you like it if a small little green guy was poking at you. And smashing you across the head. then pulling your inside so you can run in and get killed by something more then likely... I wouldnt be sad... But I wouldnt be happy... Thats just imo though
