Video game movies have been bad largely due to video game companies themselves not really caring about their IP or doing much to help movie companies once they attain the license. This is a major reason why I have faith in the upcoming Warcraft movie; Blizzard's quality control on cinematics/story is top notch and they know how to entertain.

That trailer was bad ass and the gameplay trailers are as well; this is the first Halo that I've been genuinely excited for as I loathed and despised their past incarnations due to my PC FPS elitism but this one looks too fun to pass up.

Also gives me hope for a 40k movie if it was based on stormtroopers/guardsmen - doesn't have to be a cinematic masterpiece all it needs is great eye candy and an entertaining story after all.

Let's not go into a 40k movie, only hell and flames lie there.

You want a Halo Movie - Go see Avatar.

I'm a huge fan of Halo and would like to see a film, but my Film School/Scriptwriting instincts tell me that a faceless protagonist cannot drive forward a story. V for Vendetta was an exception because it was Natalie Portman's character drove the story through a series of flashbacks and set pieces that Hugo Weaving appeared in.

I'm still writing a 40K script based on Horus Heresy (600 pages split into 3 films). I've been writing it for 12 years and I'm still no closer to perfecting it. The HH novels have added soooo much to the canon it's crazy.

Probably Nurgle, Africa has the lock on that.

40k isn't meant for the movies as either one of two things will happen: Hollywood rapes it into something Christian and wholesome for the US market or it will be so heavily steeped in the background that nobody except for the fans will truly understand what is going on. And fanservice is not a way to make money.

Unless you are a pedophile who enjoys depraved anime of course.

You see, I'm going to prove that theory wrong.

My colleagues all say that the film is very possible.

The trick is not to follow the story to the letter, but make sure that the theme is left intact and that the overall story is done justice by immortalizing it on film by paying homage and not by destroying what is a great story - 1st rule of Adaptation.

What's with all the Halo hate? All I was saying was that the trailer looks pretty good, and when Halo (fingers crossed) gets made into a movie, if they keep with this theme, it would do pretty good imo. Now to start a new thread.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I have to say that I think Halo has great support from its developer. All their live action background videos really add to the overall feel and depth of the background. Even if you don't really get into the game, the background is really well thought out and has been fleshed out very well with all sorts of live action mini-documentries, mini-movie trailers like the one in the OP, etc.

Even the books can be reasonably good, adding more background even if they are simply following the game sotry line.

I think because of the support Halo gets from its developer, any movie tie in would be held to the higest standards, some might cynically say because Halo is such a cash cow they would not want to spoil its earning potential. But I say who cares the reasons, if the owner of the IP holds the movie to the highest standards then all the better.

After all, it is not like there are any other companies out there with a line of products to support their story line and thought universe who want to push them onto people.

At least Halo does not rape you every time you go into a games store, trying to get you to buy its latest book or map add-on.

And once you buy the game, you don't have to buy a new version and relearn the rules every 30 seconds and have all the cannon history re-written
