Almost every female I've ever worked with in a nerd environment has had the same degree of social under-exposure as many of the males suffer from. I've always been the guy who put half an ounce of effort into caring about his appearance, and being slightly metro in an environment with no other guys of equal caliber gets you lots of nerd-girl attention. I met my current girl of 3 years while I was working at a comic store Honestly though, give them space and treat them like you would anyone else.

Worship me.

Of the 5 comic stores I used to frequent in my youth, 4 had female employees. All the video gamestores in major malls tended to have female salesclerks then too. I don't visit such stores at here since it is cheaper and easier just to order online.

GW staff in the UK currently wear blue polo shirts as staff uniform and are hence referred to as blueshirts. Managers wear black shirts. This varies from country to country, so other posters might refer to redshirts.

Regarding the girl I came across, I suppose the polite word would be "kooky", a bit like Zooey Deschannel.

That's a lie!! I've been going in there for 16 odd years now and have never once seen a nerd rush to get in the door.

Although when my girlfriend goes into GW none of the staff will go up and speak to her. And we were sat down painting the other week while everyone else was gaming and all you could here were hushed whispers of "A girl"

Even the blokes?

I suspect female GW staff is a bit like officers in Vietnam; they only have a fifteen minute mortality rate.

Armies:
(CSM/HH) - Iron Warriors; Death Guard; World Eaters; Night Lords
IG - Vestfalian Expeditionary
Force (Solar Auxilia - HH)
SM - Blades of Inaros (Homebrew)
DE - Kabal of Ouroboros

No blokes, at the price GW is charging, I want to buy my miniatures from shops like the bar in Coyote Ugly.

I want Charisma Carpenter leaning over a bar, covered in baileys and whispering 'Mmmm, all this talk about ork clan fluff talk makes me hot... now see what I do when you reminisce about genestealer cults...'

The GW closest to me had a fairly attractive female staffer.

The problem is, every time I see a female employee in a geeky store I frequent, I can't interact with them naturally, lest they think I'm just another drooling nerd trying to flirt. It's a hard knock life.

Too many winning statements here!

I had a couple of gals working for me at a comic store, one of them had a job at night jumping around stages with high heels and swinging on poles. Funny how that worked, you would never have guessed...

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

The mere fact that the notion of a female staffer has prompted a thread probably explains why there are so few of them!

When a female does venture into a GW (other than a mother clutching a Christmas or Birthday list) the staffers tend to look at them like they are a skinhead at an R'n'B night, then the typical "do you need any help?" gets uttered, which is said in a tone that infers she is probably lost and a little bit simple.

Meanwhile the regulars, most of whom consider soap and social skills to be an alien concept, go through the classic 3 stages of "how to cope in the vicinity of non related females"

1. Stare or leer (think Richie from Bottom or Vic Reeves from Shooting stars) in disbelief, and whisper "oh my god a girl" in not so hushed tones to there mates

2. Begin to talk very, very loudly about their wargaming prowess "AND MY CHAMPION WILL SMITE YOU WITH HIS MIGHTY WEAPON" (I guess this is the nerd equivelant of a mating call)

3. Sidle over and make some sort of embarasing attempt at conversation "so being a girl I guess you like high elves?"

No one likes to be gawked at like some sort of Victorian freak show, or being made to feel like they are stupid or incapable of making choices by themselves.

Before I get flamed for making sweeping generalisations these are all examples of behaviour I have witnessed on a number of occaisions when in a GW store or when my girlfriend has come into the store to meet me. Thank god she finds this sort of treatment amusing!

I think its pretty much established that chicks just dont like cool things. They do not really have hobbies. I often wonder what goes on in their heads. Girls do not really have things that they like to do. Unless it involves some pointless fitness/spirituallity thing like yoga or counseling. That is why they are never around cool things like warhammer.

That's the store I want to visit!!!

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.
