Half Korean and my half whiteness is a quarter Irish and a quarter Scottish. On my white side I've got journals and diaries of them coming over to America fresh off the boat back in the colonial era and have a great grandfather that helped pioneer aviation in my city and also was some of the first pilots to practice carrier landings (explains why I have a desire to fly? I have 40 flight hours ). Korean side I've got a bunch of war stories that I can hand down to my own demon spawns once I get attached to a succubus. However most people don't know wtf I am other than I'm a good looking Mexican/Italian/Puerto Rican/Asian/Jewish person...with the right grooming and tan I can pass off as a whole lot of races.

Damn proud and fortunate to be born an American too; also imo mixed races are what this country and the future of mankind is all about!

I'm Polish. Though the only thing its gotten me is the ability to follow a conversation in the mother tongue, sort of (lot's of first/second generation friends in HS).

Never particularly cared about ethnicity though, least of all the American version of that concept. I quietly laugh at all the Irish pride on St. Patty's and other, similar holidays.

And I was recently looking at a really really old Burke's Landed Gentry with my brother, turns out we've got land somewhere, just with other relatives. And my ancestors were quite important.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.

We laughed - knowing that better men would come,

He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.

My brother traced our family tree back to about 1812. Everyone was English except someone on my mother's side of the family who was a French officer. I don't know if he was an emigre royalist French or a captured Napoleonic French. Either way it's an interesting example of how ancestry is mixed even without obvious waves of migration.

I am of English descent with a quarter scottish and and eight spanish in me.

However my english family is odd when it comes to their past, my last name was originally jewish but was corrupted when said jewish family moved to scandinavia then came to england in 1066 in the form of french nobility and stayed in the north of england (sheffield/rotherham area) until the present day.

so really im english/french/scandinavian/jewish/scottish/spanish

No offence but your "noble viking" line made me lol a little.

It's strange. Deep down I know hertitage and background is all a load of nonsense (in my opinion). However since I've started living in Korea I have, outwardly at least, become a lot more vocal about my heritage/nationality (which is Irish). Many Koreans are extremely patriotic, so I've reacted to their (occasionally overbearing) pride by re-affirming my own identity. But I don't really care.

I want to be descended from these guys...

But in reality I know that I am not descended from a chimp (because of obvious timeline interferences... with the clock and the not happening really with the rhetoric and the stuff with the glass jars...) but in fact some form of primate that may have been an aquatic dwelling creature, or even a plain stomping one. Furthermore, I am a monkey currently, and the only thing that seems to make me "special" is a pretty large brain... and nothing to really do with it .

I'm of mostly german heritage with some russian and polish in me, maybe some others but I haven't gotten that much into the genealogy of my family.

I would like to make some tshirts that say "German pride" or "White pride" but apparently the latter is too racist, which is funny as I see Native Americans wearing shirts proclaiming "Native Pride" and nobody says anything about that.

I'm proud of who I am and my family, even if some of them are more than just a little insane. LOL

--The whole concept of government granted and government regulated 'permits' and the accompanying government mandate for government approved firearms 'training' prior to being blessed by government with the privilege to carry arms in a government approved and regulated manner, flies directly in the face of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

Another point of view would have been 'We are all descended from Adam and Eve'.

Calling evolution the 'monkey myth lie' is baiting.

He was stated a commonly accepted belief in order to make a point about meaningless ancestry is, and to make a dig at a well known racist. His acceptance of evolution is hardly contraversial and not the primary point being made.

If you or another Christians said something like 'I find my faith helps me keep on the straight and narrow' and other posters came in to say 'here we go again on the God myth'... people wouldn't think much of that poster. Don't be that guy.

Meanwhile, I don't have any pride in my ancestry. I've been told my background is made up of English, Irish and German, but I don't feel any connection to it. It seems to be an American thing to do, to create an identity out generations lapsed regional connections. Being a, Irish/Danish/Italian might feel better than being a middle class white suburbanite. Or perhaps it isn't so much an American thing as a geek thing... everytime I've seen this conversation its been on-line on a gaming board, which is why it seems to be Americans contributing.

It's the people who claim Scottish ancestry and wear kilts at their weddings that get me. Never been to Scotland, couldn't name a place in Scotland (other than maybe Loch Ness), but come wedding day out comes the kilt.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Oh god yes. There's a town not far from my house that holds a festival of highland games every year. Its always billed as an authentic celebration of Scottish heritage. Really its just an excuse to throw around big logs, get drunk, and play Rugby. Though that might be a pretty accurate description of Scottish culture, minus the Rugby anyway.
