Although Canadian by several generation's my family is Swedish. My only regret in life was not getting to live and die with the noble Viking's.

Im proud to be English but my Grandad is Welsh so Im part Welsh.

My canadian roots go back far enough that I don't even think of myself as anything else. I mean, why would you when Mount Kidd is named after great-great-grandaddy (he got it named that because he lead the PCrail companies first surveyor accross the mountains) and my great-grandaddy was an honorary chief of the Stoney Indians. Feth europe. I'm from Alberta.

Irish-Scandinavian genetic heritage. 100% Khornholian.

French and English with a little dutch. All of the most vile, imperialistic scum of the Earth all rolled into one. I have no choice but to be proud, except for a couple of somewhat dubious distant cousins from Boston who I suspect are on a part of the family tree that failed to branch off for a few generations, if you know what I mean.

This is a funny question for me. As my surname has a lot of history but my father who gave it to me is a complete tit, but I wont go into that.

My mothers side I guess would have history aswell but I would need to trawl librarys and what have you to find out about it.

So to answer the question, I don't know if I am proud of my heritige but I am proud to have a heritige which isn't obscure.

edit: + on a related note, the perry twins make a miniature range of the border reivers and they have clan Johnston minatures. I guess that's quite kewl.

Scottish/Irish combined with Czech/Polish and Hungarian Gypsy (but don't know how far back it goes, as all birth records in the town of my father's birth were destroyed in a fire between WW2 and the Soviet occupation.).

Although I did have a convict ancestor (but he could also read, and explored much of the area of Sydney where I grew up - to the point that he has a bridge named after him.). No real pride, as a lack of solid ties either side give me little to base it on.

I find it hard to be proud of a random roll of the genetic dice. It isn't as if I had any choice in it.

I see what you mean, but it's not exactly random. I think my ancestors (or at least one of them in some cases possibly) did choose whether or not they wanted to screw each other.

Not really. They didn't know exactly you would be you. How do you take pride in a non-accomplishment? Your parents could be proud of you, but then they put the work in to get you after all. Even then it isn't like it was unique act. People screwing is a fairly common occurrence, as is childbirth.

Being a bit pedantic aren't we? I think we all can understand the difference between being a native of America and being a Native American. It doesn't matter much anyway I suppose since a Native would identify as their tribe (Lakota, Huron, Blackfoot, ect) and not as a Native American.

Yeh as I say, I do see what you mean. But just because you had no choice/doing in it, doesn't mean you can't be proud of it. For example I can be proud of someone else because of something they have accomplished, it depends on your relationship to that person.

Now if you personally find it hard to be proud of something you didn't accomplish yourself, fair enough, but other people can and do.

I am proud. I consider myself European more than British. My father's family originally came from Belgium *shakes fist at the French* whereas my mother's side is mainly British (which of course means nothing as the English came from Germany/Denmark/Etc.) and Irish.

I, myself, was born in West Germany and spent a few years there and am proud of those roots as well. I'm one of the few people who find England to be a tad warm, even in winter.

I come from a very military family as at least one person in every generation served. That honour was supposed to come to me but I fell ill so the best I can do is tell the world what the military does.

So, to summarise, I'm proud of my military, British, Belgique and German roots. Don't know enough of the Irish side but will learn about it sooner or later.

Just bloody annoying when someone asks how to spell my last name. Every bloody time. And when I get ID'd it's like "Were you really born in Germany?" YES YOU DOLT! IT SAYS IT RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!

I'm not proud, I haven't much to do with my heritage.
I enjoy learning about it and teaching others about it though, I find it interesting.
I like Ireland too, in some ways, but in a lot of ways it's a pretty crappy place.

But I'm not exactly PROUD of being an Australian. Sure we've got the best accents, animals, beachs, and stuff. But we don't exactly have the best track record...

I was born in the UAE but my family is English. I can honestly say that I am not sure where my family hails from past my grandparents, as my family does not really talk that much (or at least i don't talk to most of my family).

All I know is that my dad's family is from the north and my mum's family is from Essex.

My almost-wife's family is from Kent. Her mum is interested in family trees and things, so I guess that when I officially become a member of her family tree, I will find out from her where all my family come from

But more in relation to the OP, I am proud in theory to be English/British, though I don't really like the country at the moment.

In this country, I've found for the most part if you're family's been here more than a couple generations, you're going to have a bit of everything in your make up. A friend of mine in New Orleans who is "Black" did an ancestor check with his best friend who lived across the street. He told me he found out that his family used to own his friends family pre Civil War.
I have an ancestor that got washed off the Mayflower and pulled back on, and from another one I have a sizable stack of Civil War letters fom that tell a bit different story from the history books.

I would say "interested" rather than "proud". History fascinates me, especially that of the UK. I remember reading one of my many Viking books (Welsh author I believe) and at the start he gives an over view of the situation in this fair Isle at the time. Made me realise what alot of nonsense "national identity" really is. The whole region was a total mix up of cultures, so drawing a line in the sand and saying, you're Welsh, you're Scottish, you're Celt, you're Pict, you're Saxon etc is totally pointless

Mind you when I need to get some fire in my belly I do dig into my (supposed Norse blood) and call upon the Norse gods to witness my deeds and give me the strength to achieve them

My heretige has been traced back to split off from the royal family at king Edward I (iirc, might have been II or even III).
Even have a family crest I just found. As well as a bunch of web stores to sell stuff about the family >_>
Can't find any wikipedia pages though, but that might be from all the spelling variations

There are slight variations to the crest, like I mentioned. Also many many variations to the spelling of the name making it hard to trace back. My dad has a fairly big family tree about it

That's my mothers side on my dad's side there is french. There are a few other races on both sides that are very minor as well, but I don't remember them right now.

As for being Australian, I know in history we have a fairly bad reputation being England's prison. But, it's not who you're decended from it's what you do.

I am of English, Indian, Portugese decent.

I am proud to be English (not proud that I have to live in this hellhole), not particularly proud to be of Indian decent as I have had to put up with a lot of racism in my day. I've only just found out I have Portugese blood, so I'm not that fussed about that really (except that I could be a distant cousin to that Tow-rag Christiano Ronaldo - BOOOOO ).

My Daughter has the best heritage though - English, French, Scottish, Irish, Indian, Guyanan, Portugese.

I'm German and Prussian by heritage as far as I'm able to trace it back. However, as a German, you're basically told from the young age that you should not be proud of any kind of heritage in a national view.
Really, can't name anyone here I know who would go "YES, I'm PROUD to be a German, HURRA!" If people are proud of some kind of heritage, they're rather proud of what their great-great-granddads or -mothers achieved. However, being proud of your grandfather might still have some stigma added to it, because many of them served in the Wehrmacht. That's true for one of my granddads, too, although I don't know much about it.

So...nah, not really proud of any heritage here.

Mostly English.

I've found out that I am part Jewish and part Scottish from both sides of the family, and that's the dream team for being tight. I always wondered why bats flew out of my wallet.

American with Irish, German, and Cherokee heritage. Yes I'm proud of my heritage. Need to do some more geneology to find out all of the particulars though.

English and Welsh, although the Welsh blood goes back to Scotland as well. So I see myself more as a Celt than anything else.

Always tell my boys they are English and Welsh though.
