Sweet, can't wait for the new grey knight on bike models.

Sadly the expansion of your GK army will come with the loss of my Inquisitorial army.

Hi all.
Would it be possible to cover all the SM variants in one codex.
YES!

But PLC GW want to be able to get quick cash injections from SM chapter codexes.

Thats why I prefer companies that support gameplay , and generate long term interest .

Rather than GW PLCs short term profiteeering .

But thats just my view.

I consider all Codex updates unnecessary (And potentialy harmful to the hobby) so long as Jervis is still employed at GW sniffing permanent markers and writing Codi

Another Space Marine codex is absolutely not necessary and no one loves them. They really don't need a new codex especially when every it's other one. Orks - SM - Guard - Wolves - Nids - Dark Angels? (from what I understand). I don't see Speed Freaks and Death Skulls codex in the cycle, because orks can make them with the codex they have now which is suppose to be the premise for the SM codex just as much.

Regardless of whether or not its because they sell good (I don't know why) they are boring to play against and I refuse to start a SM army out of principle. The obnoxious part is for armies like Tyranids and Necrons whose weaponry was based on the old vehicles system and needed a new codex off the bat because the new rules nerfed the crap out of them.

Hopefully GW realizes that their SM Fanclub is satisfied for the moment so if they want to quit sucking it any day now they can focus on more quality army lists.

I personally don't think they should, but fluff wise I suppose it makes sense. After all the space marine chapters with different codexes tend to be the ones that don't follow the "code" of whateveryouwanttocallitreally. So they have their own fighting style while the other space marines follow the "code"...right?

Codex SUPPLIMENTS for the various Chapters would be fine. Whole Codi are -not- neessary Just issue minibooks that include special characters/units/rules for those Chapters. There's no need for a whole Codex with fluff, pictures, and reglossed pages from the main Codex just to take up space. For example, would a new DA codex need a whole troop section, listing the basic marines as a "Dark Angels Tactical squad", and going through the whole process of adding the same table and wargear options as is listed in the SM 'Dex? Definately not. Could they get away with just printing out what special rules and exclusive wargear might apply to DA Tactical Squads that aren't included in the main Codex? Absolutely

Considering warhammer 40k is pretty much all about the space marines ( how many ork novels do you see?). Space marines are the easiest to sale to new and young gamers.

Lets do a codex/model cost to make a space marine codex.

Troops-all the same, no need to redesign no extra money or time needed to sculpt new troops.
Pretty much all the need to make is a upgrade sprue for that said chapter and maybe a few unique units and your done.

So for mininum output, a new space marine dex brings in the best input $$ wise.

80% of the 40k community play some sort of space marines, so why the rush on making profit from the 2% of dark eldar players? GW is currently paying off debt, and you can tell their in money making mode codex wise.

codex released so far.

SPace Marines---see above 80% play the army
Choas---- 2nd most popular army
IG---horde army, the most expensive army to make
Orks---another horde army which is expensive
SW--- About 1/3 of space marines are very tempted to convert to wolves.
*future codex*
tyranids---horde army which is expensive...
Blood Angles---space marines again
--------------------------------------------------
the fest of the armies can go in order of most broken..
