Alpharius (or Omegaman) had a backup body in the form of the other twin. There is no reason he could not have simply lost one of his bodies and then gone to hide out for a while.

eh? What?

They're two bodies with one soul. If one got killed, then the soul now has one body in the form of whichever twin survived. In essence, a backup.

It's not clear if Guilliman killed Alpharius, Omegon, or neither. The Ultramarines don't have a record of him killing Alpharius. Most of the Alpha Legion had a striking resembelance to Alpharius. I think it's quite possible that both Alpharius and Omegon are both still running around the galaxy, but it's unknown.

I didn't remember any references to Vulkan being at the Istvaan massacre, but I don't remember anything to conflict with it either. Anyone have a good reference?

Vulkan didnt lead his troops into the Dropsite. I forget what drew him away. The only Primarch to drop with his legion was Ferrus Mannus and looked what happened to that guy.

And Guilliman is dead. His throat was slashed by Fulgrim with a poisoned blade.

Guilliman is in a statis field, and some people, despite the impossiblity of it, claim he is slowly healing. But, if they shut off the field 'today', he'd pressumably be toast. It's deliberately vague is Guilliman is dead or healing.

Ummm...according to Fulgrim he was at the dropsite massacre. Also, according to Salamander he was there. And according to the latter, it was the last time he was seen. Although the Salamanders believe he survived.

According to Lexicanun, who themselves cite Index Astartes IV, Vulkan was at the massacre with Ferrus and Corax. Unlike Ferrus though, he survived.

It lists him as one of the primarchs opposing the Codex Astartes and subsequently pulling a Russ and disappearing - but vowing to come back.

This is a case of conflicting sources then. Although, for the record, you are right and Lexicanum does in fact claim this. They also cite their source as the article The Promethean Wars in Index Astartes IV

First of all, it's "phased" not "faced". Second, this is because Alpharius had an identical twin, Omegon, who would sometimes play the part of his brother. The secret was very well kept. Ergo, Omegon simply stepped in and took over his brother's role.

First of all, he had it right. "Fazed" is the correct spelling in this case. Second, there's no -actual- confirmation that Alpharius died. You're made to think that, sure, but the lack of any physical records of this happening makes it kind of questionable. The Imperium says he died. but there's no body or record of the events to prove it, and it's not like Girlyman is talking any time soon..

And it's not like they print off hordes of false information and propaganda to keep people loyal and afraid. The Imperium is completely honest about everything. Really. Would we lie to you?

I don't think the Alpha legion is still loyal, but they have just as much scorn for the Traitors as they do for the Loyalists.

Yeh a few people in this thread need to read legion.

Emperors Faithful wrote:And how the hell does a primarch have an identical twin?
There would probably have been extensive surgery on one of his soldiers or something to make it *look* like him. I don't think ANY primarchs had twins running around.

Especially you. Although the reveal is a bit ruined for you now. Same as when I read it, I already knew, didn't spoil it one bit though.

No, I just don't see why the Emprah would create 2 primarchs and only give them one soul. (sort of) In fact I don't think that's even possible.

I think you should read the book. But FTR, theres no indication the Emporer even knows about it.

edit: from lexicanum. Legion spoiler...

Spoiler:
The greatest secret about the Alpha Legion Primarch is apparently told to none outside the Legion, and has always been thus. For, unlike any of the other Primarchs, Alpharius has an identical twin: Omegon. It is unknown if the Emperor designed this, or was ever even aware of it.

Alpharius and Omegon are both the Primarch of the Legion, although 'Alpharius' is the public face and appears as the more senior of the two. Though as both are identical it is possible for them to switch roles and have 'Omegon' play the public role. They have been described as "one soul in two bodies" and collectively have been referred to as simply "Alpharius Omegon".

While the Astartes of the Alpha Legion, once at least, made an attempt to all look alike, both Alpharius and Omegon were still somewhat distinctive. Taller than the rest of the Legion, slightly copper-skinned, bald and possessed of a heavy brow, they somewhat resembled their brother, Horus. Unlike him, Alpharius and Omegon had piercing eyes that seemed to glitter, appearing to shift colour from a cold arctic blue to a shimmering green. The overall impression was one of nobility and intelligence. One way to tell the two apart was when Omegon was performing as commander of Effrit Stealth Squad; large portions of his power armour and gear were painted black and otherwise darkened. The armour worn by Alpharius was not particularly different from that of an ordinary Alpha Legionnaire.1

No it doesn't. That hasn't been answered by any publication yet. My guess would be the same chaos mutations which gave sanguinius wings.

I don't know, maybe both. Since it has been sugested in the hh novels that the emporer had forseen the chaos gods spreading the primarchs across the galaxy and it was all part of his plan.

My reading of Legion was the twins were exactly that

Two different people yet their embryo split - both ended up with identical physical attributes

Seems impossible Emp did not know - imagine them in
their vitamin tanks - kind of hard to hide there

From reading space wolf ominbus that chapter believes they needed the spear of russ to remain in the temple near the eye (tough ask when 1k sons out to get it..) yet old mate hurled it into a gate.. so there goes that chapters hopes..

For me cannot see a catalyst for GW to make any progress in this story, only document the detail of that heresy period in more detail then more vague references to current situ

Think its more likely they will bring in new races - Squats, Chaos Squats (Go the Bull Centaur!), Zoats..!

BTW saw there was a new fluff writer for GW who is in the Australian Army - so they are prepared to take on talent to fight the good fight and further the fluff - reckon there would be some quality fluff writing potential in this membership!

But if, like I have suggested, it was a choas mutation which was caused when the chaos gods spread them across the warp (like sanguinius' wings for example) then there would have been only one in the tanks when the emporer saw them.

Propaganda and rumour-mongering entirely stemming from the sly, cunning methods of the Alpha legion.
