Counts are substantially lower and slower this time than from the 40k reports, but let's go ahead and get a tally started:
Chaos Daemons - 11
Dwarves - 7
Lizardmen - 6
Warriors of Chaos - 5
Dark Elves - 5
Empire - 4
Vampire Counts - 3
High Elves - 3
Chaos Dwarves - 1
Orcs & Goblins - 1
Ogre Kingdoms - 1
Chaos Beastmen - 1
Tomb Kings - 1
Credit was not given for Lemartes or djones' unsure 3rd place, and the St. Catharine's Ontario 1st place was assumed to be WoC, someone correct me if you have information to the contrary.

I had him climb a stegadon and stab a Skink Priest to death. Then the Stegadon stomped him to death. Irresistable Force was probably about 75% of the time for me though.

Looks right. Thought about updating that, but didn't see the point after the one additional post.
It does surprise me that there are so many armies with low representation, or none at all. We still have zero Wood Elves and Brettonians, and only one each of six different armies represented. Chaos Dwarves I understand, it takes a twisted person to bring them to 'ard Boyz (looking at you, 40kE), and I do know that these other armies are all considered to have been released before the power creep codex cycle began, but I've heard about plenty of prelims that had limited turnout, some as few as four participants. Honestly, as little as I had played Fantasy lately, that might just be the only reason I made it into this list. So was the field that heavily skewed in favor of the winning armies (i.e. nobody brought the armies that aren't represented highly), or did they just generally perform that poorly?
On the other hand, how exactly did the Dwarves do so well? I don't doubt that they fared better for survival than most armies against the magic heavy metagame, and they're a solid army, but I just can't see them scoring more than draws, maybe minor victories against the majority of the field. I would normally attribute it to saturation (being in the latest starter box), but our sample set doesn't seem to show the same results for their greenskinned compatriots (being in the last two (or more?) starter boxes). Anyone care to share how that worked out?

My skaven came in fourth, just a couple of points shy from third so maybe some of them were close. Also out of our eleven player five were daemons, and two out of those took first and third, Lizards taking second (our results already included in list).
The reason I think Dwarfs did so well might due to what at least at our store is the perfered Daemon army. LD Bomb + horror core + fiends or flesh hounds + Kairos. Dwarfs CAN beat that.

Because dwarves are broken!
Seriously though, while they're not broken, they're dead hard. Everything will be Ld 9 or 10, most of it immune to panic or fear for some reason or another. They, like daemons, can take multiples of the best runes, making all their characters equipped with 1+ re-rollable armor saves, and apparently being mounted on shieldbearers makes a lord immune to killing blow?
Dwarves don't need to sink a lot of points to make a "deathstar". I put it in quotes because it's not the traditional type. It's immune to march blocking because it's dwarves. It's likely ITP because they're dwarven characters. Its characters are nigh-unkillable and soak any attacks directed at them, likely from your most powerful, death-dealing character. It comes down to static combat res and since the unit is also likely stubborn, they can hold up a real deathstar worth way more points than they are just by being incredibly tough.
Meanwhile, they're 6 or 7 or 8 or however many S7 flaming re-roll misses boltthrowers they can take are slamming your lines, and Thorek's smashing his hammer in the back to reduce your movement and hurt your dudes.
Did I mention they can take lots of dispel dice and/or scrolls on the cheap?
Not broken, but definitely a tough nut to crack.

There probably isn't a large sampling to be had, but for anyone that DOES post their field alongside their results, I don't mind crunching a few numbers to give those statistics.

Yeah, I figured the army win counts by themselves can be deceptive. If, say three quarters of the players were using DOC (not saying that’s the case), that in and of itself could skew the results.
I suppose if 90% of the players used Beasts, they’d look pretty good too.

I was surprised at the bret list, since it went up against a 7 bolt thrower thorek army...but apparently thorek blew himself up in the first or second turn.

If there were 3 Daemons players against a field of Beasts, and they didn't have to play each other until the final round, my money would be on the Daemon players taking top 3...

At this point I'll remind you that I'm a Dogs of War player, who hasn't had a proper Army Book since 5th Edition. Pause for a moment and think about what that means.
Now go back to your Warhammer Armies: Beast of Chaos, and look at the copyright date.
Are you *sure* that you want to play this game with me?

Believe me, I know the pain. Most DoW players would *gladly* be where BoC, or even DE, are today. At least we'd have a legal Army Book for the foreseeable future and be included as part of GW "official" events.
