Spice and Wolf is my favourite. Death Note is good too.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Are you saying that I am giving a true anime nerd response or that you are about to give a true anime nerds response? I think the latter is far more accurate but you meant the former.

ShumaGorath wrote:The original FMA (Not the OVA which moves too quickly and is far too kawaii for it's own good) actually was arguably one of the best anime ever made. It had a well written plot, concise character development, a believable and clever setting with real world parallels, excellent animation, and most importantly of all a level of maturity that is so terribly lacking in most anime.

I'm guessing you, as I never claimed any expertise. If you really think FMA is one of the best anime's ever made, you are inexperienced in the area. It is a decent anime, but not close to being the best.

You would think so except the statement wasn't "FMA is one of my favorite anime's", it was "it is the best anime". One is stated as an opinion, the other is not. If the former had been that would make sense and be understandable, but the latter is what was stated and is an opinion hiding as a fact.

As for FMA, I didn't really think it was all that great. (FMA is the first, and so far only, manga comic I have read and I enjoyed those much more. still chewing through them though)

Does anyone now of more recent Studio Ghibli works? Last I checked it was still 'Grave of the Fireflies' or am I looking in the worng place?

Damn! Grave of the Fireflies is from 1980's?!?

Also, I thought they did Nausicaa: Valley of the Wind?

(Out of that list there, my fav would be Princess Mononoke)

The Cat Returns was a bit 'eh?', But I am interested in this 'Bamboo Cutter'?

hmmm, perhaps Studio Ghibli is not as great as I once thought. These all seem a bit...wishy-washy?

Sorry Luna, I didn't mean to make to type all these lists out for me. Can you just tell me the offical site?

(Odds are it's something like www.studioghibli.com )

I prefer anime that are a mixture of action and good storyline. I'm not a gundam fanatic, (I don't get schoolkids being sent into giant war changing army machines) but I like characters like Ashitaka (from Mononoke) who tries to do the honourable thing, and refuses to simply pick sides.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studio_Ghibli hehe

Studio Ghibli is known to produce movies thats suitable for all viewers , with very classical feel to them.

The other very famous anime maker would be : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makoto_Shinkai
Famous for setting the pace for new anime's quality . ( and melodramatic stories )

I prefer anime that are a mixture of action and good storyline.

In that case there is one anime that everyone know is epic but literally scared to talk about it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saikano

Voices of a distant star , what made it sadder was the "lag" between the communication between Earth and Jupiter.
everytime they receives each other's message it would be like few month behind actual event.

No one talks about Saikano because its extremely traumatizing anime to watch , there is no gore or anything
just a brutal war story that tore lovers ( and family and the world ) apart. Thats how well they made it ,
its like they want to play with your emotions and then tear it apart.

heh, heh. Sounds like my kind of movie.

I watched one of those vampire anime movies, again WIERD.

What is with all the school girls (and/or boys) who are ordered to command these mounstrous, amazing, expensive, highly experimental killing machines? (Evangelion, Gundam, Voices of a Distant Star etc) Why not get some one in there who won't freak out at the first sign of an explosion?

To be on topic, and toss a little old school in, I'd go with the original Robotech series, especially the Macross Saga. Ranma 1/2 is hilarious as well. The original Tenchi Muyo OVA series is quite good as well.

These been a fair few mentions of some good anime here, but my perseonal favorite is Elfen Lied. Not a long seris, only 13 epps and and OAV, but absolutly brilliant. My favorite seris, Anime or otherwise. Absolutly brilliant.

When you call an intimate moment with your partner "the Assault Phase"

Is that followed by a pile-in move?

That brings a whole new meaning to the term "Hit and Run"

Can that be following a deep strike, or do you have to wait until the next round?
