Shineyhelmetman, I was just having a bit of a go, everyone's 14 at some point, it's not your fault. And actually the other guy was the really shrill-sounding one, not you.

I would cut regeneration and spore cysts on the carnis, very useless upgrades. I think carnis should be cheap as possible, barbed strangler, scything talons.

In my experience, you might want some outflanking genestealers, and some advancing through cover, and all should have a 4+ save upgrade where possible. They don't all need feeder tendrils, since some will get the reroll from another unit or from lictors.

so i agree with most of what you have to say one thing im not sure on is the barbed strangler why would it be twin linked it would just be 2 large blast shots
and the spores cant hurt the carnifex that has tufness 7 with str 3 blasts that was what i was going on. although that is a good idea about the mines around objectives i shoudve did that,

ahem, tyranid codex states that shooting weapons count as twin-linked for each 2 equipped....{pg.30}

heck, I'd like 2 BarbedStrangler shots too or even 4 Venom cannon shots(even at glancing) but it doesn't work that way

Well even if the mines are not capable of wounding your 'fex when they explode, you are spending extra points on an ability that can botch and wound your 'fex. And yes, I wish 2 BS meant we could shoot two large blasts...

next week end on saturday i will be playing my friend a small 500pt game and wanted some opinions on what i should go with, i was thinking a fast swarm since its such a small game

what would you guys suggest

Well I've been away awhile, but Tyranids in 5th edition really only have 2 strong builds. Nidzilla and Swarm. There are other alternatives like the list you've posted, but they more designed for fun games and not competition.

Until we see the changes in the new Nid Codex, Lictors should be dropped. I mean the Trail is nice and can offer a good re-roll if you suck at rolling. (It happens to everyone so don't think I'm picking on you.)

2~3 Stealer squads of 8 for Flanking.

2~4 squads of Gaunts (cheap ones are best and if you can afford WoN then get it.) Good for screening and soaking up fire in place of your Big Bugs, also they can capture locations and pressure infantry.

Drop the spores, absolute garbage for now. To random and can smash your own units, not a good strat.

Flanking with the Stealers is great fun, however, since you can't choose which side of the table they come on, unless your opponent spreads out over the board (which isn't likely) you could come onto the board edge (terrain permitting) into a fire lane that just has them slaughtered the turn they come on. (Not such a good thing for Stealers, big waste of points both army construction and kill.)

I will admit Nids have a lot of fun aspects that its players can use and manipulate they're forces into some pretty unusual ideas. This is both our best asset and worst downfall. Alot of new Nids players try and make every model to everything and then they run into their point barrier and realize they're lacking greatly in a particular area. As you've stated you're just testing this army out, which is good and found your major flaw, those pesky AV14 vehicles.

Now with all that being said your list does lend itself to a multiplayer game and not so much a 1 on 1 match. Since in a FFA game you have to watch all sides and not just focus on one opponent. Your army is very support orientated and works well from the way it looks, but its staying power after taking on one opponent isn't very good. It just seems to lend itself to helping kill an enemy. And what many have said before, to much randomness lends itself to failure, due to the fact that you can't properly strategize a victory if you don't have almost all the things able to be planned. Don't get me wrong a couple things done randomly to help throw your opponent off, but all random makes it hard for you to put troops where you need them most.

Just a few notes, hope I didn't crush your dream. Most important rule, have fun.

well yes my magor flaw was the armor value 14 but i just have to say i can work with my genesteelers on anyside i just got to make sure i place them right in my last game i had genesteelers pop up on a side near and objective that i didnt notice so i place them ironicly the farthest way from it, i just have to make sure i know what im doing

Well its worked for me so far. About the only Army that's given me substantial trouble is Orks and Lash Spam. Other than that I can usually take most opponents. (I say most because I have my bad roll days where I can't seem to roll above a 3+ to save my life.) I think swarm is more tactics and terrain negotiation. Of course in my swarms I try maxing out my troop numbers just to completely overwhelm my opponent. There is something to be said about being able to field 200+ models in a single game of WH40k and it not being apocolypse/extended rules play. *shrug* Swarm may not be a competition winner in the "big leagues" but I do just fine with it.

I mean come on. He won because he GANKED? you when you went for "equal damage". This doesn't even make sense. He used superior tactics to you and you can't admit it. No, you LOST, seriously it happens. Last week my football team lost to our Rivals. They beat us. So this week, we go back to the grind and get better for our next game, improving on our last.

I was 14 just 2 years ago, I trust by knowing that age recently, that you have the mental capacity to accept a loss and gain from it. It really does help.

And Shiny, saying "I RAPED HIM" isn't appropriate. Trust me, I played MMO's and I understand where people pick up saying that, but saying that about a game like that just isn't cool.

I would say my BIGGEST reccomendation would be to just run what everyone else is, Nidzilla. It WORKS! Just look up a list and adapt it, you can add in a Broodlord or something, but really...

If anything drop the Lictors and combine the stealers and get some WoN gaunts.

Do you play any mech with swarm? Yeah... its not strong.

Wow...ok where do I begin.

Lets start at square one. Forum Rules:

BE POLITE AND COURTEOUS TO ALL FORUM MEMBERS. (In caps for emphasis not because I'm yelling.)

You're consistent swearing at others and very hostile attitude is braking this rule in just about every post.

Second, you say you've been playing for 6 months and winning pretty consistently. Well, in a FFA game if myself and another opponent know the 3rd opponent is very strong, either in Army build or tactics, then common sense (which I'm aware isn't always a common thing in most people) dictates that the 2 weaker opponents would gang together so-to-speak and kill the other stronger one. So really, what they did was actually a good sense move, you take out the strongest to eliminate threats. This is a very standard military doctrine, this isn't new, and isn't rocket science.

I'm sorry but your rude behavior and lack of consideration for this forum and its members is abhorrent and distasteful. You haven't added anything to this thread but negativety, swearing, and a general lack of any higher English skills than a grade school kid. I would invite you to calm down and perhaps articulate an actual post that might show your point or view/opinion that doesn't degrade yourself and this forum with such nonsense and trash.

considering a 1500 pt game of the subject what should i take instead of spending 240pts on the lictors it leaves me an extra elite space also what about rippers? i can give them wings so thier fast attack deepstrike into somones troop line and contest objectives how would people go about using them?

On a very basic level I would just drop a single Lictor, and increase the size of your Genestealer squads (8-10 per unit)

I haven't looked at flying Rippers too much. Right now I've had my Rippers shelved for a few months due to tragedy with power weapons in close combat. But, experimentation could be fun. They seem like a unit that could do well as long as they are not facing high strength weapons.

Rippers being a swarm, cannot hold objectives but I think you are correct in that they can contest them. I just don't like how expensive they are (base cost is as much as a hormagaunt) for not a lot of benefits... they do benefit from +1 to their cover save, and have multiple wounds, but they are vulnerable to blast templates (which are prevalent nowadays) and being a troop choice without being able to do things that troops ought to do (holding objectives, etc). I'd rather take another brood of choppy hormagaunts for the price. Hormagaunts are plenty enough for me, being fleet of foot, and beasts, it gives them up to 12" of movement (depending on your luck at dice rolling) and another 12" of assault range. Most games, that means you can assault on the 2nd turn at latest. That is just as reliable to me as a DS-ing ripper swarm.

what does the beast rule do 12 inches of assult range? if so then what does leaping do for these hormagaunts?

Instead of being able to attack units in base-to-base or 2" away in an assault, it increases the range of the attacks up to 3".

Beast also gives the "Fleet" special rule, which is what allows you to run and still make an assault afterward.

So, leaping only really adds the 3" attack range in assault, allowing more of your units to get in attacks.
