YO DAKKA DAKKA!

I never liked the padded armour - frankly I always thought it made Elysians look gak... so you're off to a good start as far as I'm concerned!

Yeah, blue for the visors - paint them quite a light blue as the rest of your colour scheme sounds pretty dark. For flesh, the way I paint it is elf flesh (if you're undercoating black, make sure you give the flesh areas a coat of codex grey before painting the flesh colours or you'll end up having to do about 10 layers of elf flesh to get it to cover properly), and then a wash with flesh wash (or whatever the citadel fleshy wash is called), then highlights in elf flesh again and then adding more white to the elf flesh until I'm highlighting the most extreme edges.

These are looking hot. Not sure on what colour scheme to go for but it's your choice.

I've not seen the individual parts of the Elysians before so this is really helpful for me.

Armies:
(CSM/HH) - Iron Warriors; Death Guard; World Eaters; Night Lords
IG - Vestfalian Expeditionary
Force (Solar Auxilia - HH)
SM - Blades of Inaros (Homebrew)
DE - Kabal of Ouroboros

Upon reflection I think I am going to do it one of the muted colors. On a piece of art the bright contrast of a focal point (usually the head) would look great, but I want a real world feel and tactically you would not make a point of making focal point of your face.

So help me out with my newest conudrum: for the Cadian Vets (now with shotys) should I shell out the cash for the Forgeworld shoty torsos, should I use SM Scout arms or should I stick with the original idea of using Elysian lasguns for the Cadians? Oh and why not, who votes for just using Cadian arms?

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

I like the shoulder platiing on the Elysian arms, but the quilted padding does look a tad...odd... Maybe you can try filing it away?

Off topic: infilTRAITOR, did you change your picture? I'm diggin the new one.

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

I'd imagine the FW cadian vet torsos would fit well with the Elysian legs since they're both true 28mm scale. The scout arms would look way too big on Elysian parts I would have thought. However, for the normal troops, stick with how you're doing them (Cadian torsos on Elysian parts). I think they look really good as they are, personally.

I like this idea - I came up with a concept for a gravchute or Valkyrie-borne regiment in the last edition (light infantry, veterans and drop troop doctrines).

You could use regular cadian models for the majority of your troops. Mix with elysian special weapons for variety. Veterans, command or special weapon squads I wanted to compose entirely of Elysian models or elysian/cadian torso and Elysian weapons.

Such troops would be clearly more elite than regular guard - lots of vets, valkyries. A nice spread of subtley different camo types.

I would take lots of heavy weapon squads - mortars, missile launchers - and make it all air-dropable (no tanks or heavy artillery. You'd save money buying armor but spend it on the Valkyries and Elysians.

get to the chopper - I am taking about the shotys for the Cadian side of the army not the Elysian. I agree that the scout arms would look silly on the Elysians, but I think they would look ok on the Cadians, your thoughts? I will already be using scout heavy bolter arms on the sergeant for Harker conversion.

I've seen some simple Cadian lasgun to shotgun conversions that look different enough to pass as shotguns. Cut off the tip of the lasgun barrel so that you've just got the smaller round barrel, not the flash guard left. Also cut off/file down the bits on top of the rifle so that the body becomes a long rectangle.

If you can get hold of some old necromunda shotties off ebay they are ideal for converting Cadians without having to shell out for the FW stuff. I managed to get 8 necromunda shotguns for about £7, which is quite a bit, but thats still a lot cheaper than buying the FW versions.

Hasslefree does generic sci-fi weapons with CAD gun 8 looking rather shotgun-like. At 1.50gbp it's easy to outfit a large force. I picked up a whole bunch of rifles from here for my Guard.

Flinty - I really like that shotgun a lot.

Right now I am kind of leaning towards FW Cadian Vet upgrades. So does no one think the scout arms would look good?

Gathering the Informations.

Scout arms look oversized.

However, you have to remember that the Cadian Vet upgrades come in a very limited amount of poses, since the shotguns+arms are attached to the bodies themselves. But you CAN get the Elysian Weapon kits and get the Elysian styled shotguns, along with quite a few other weapons, there. I think they also sell the Krieg weapons as kits with no arms attached.

I think the scout arms may look just a little over-sized, but I think it is as equal as the Elysian arms appear too small. If some one cam tell me where I can find some blue tack I will do some tack jobs on with scout arms to see how it looks.

Blue tac is available at pretty much any news agents, supermarket... Most shops in all honesty. Maybe you call it something different in the US though.

@Crossbonesx11:

I am not sure when I could get the pictures up, but for my Catachan's I am cutting off the shotguns from Space Marine scouts, cleaning them up a bit then gluing them onto my Catachan arms. you could probably do the same with cadian arms, the set that doesn't have the hand attached.

I'll see what I can do for pictures later.

So I decided to use scout arms on my Harker conversion squad and FW vet torsos on everyone else. Thanks for everyones help!

Check out my first Sgt:

What do you think? I still have to paint red detail on the helmet to denote veteran status. The white bars signifies officer.

Oh and here is a pic of one the DragonForge bike bases:

It is primed gray, painted with Adeptus Battlegrey, washed with Badab Black, drybrushed with Codex Grey, drybrushed with Astronomicon Grey. The metal was painted black, then drybrushed Boltgun Metal and washed with Ogryn Flesh.

They look good, but they definitely need a tertiary colour, preferably a bright one like red, green, yellow or blue to draw the eye. They're very grey at the moment. Unless you're going for realism, but IMO realism very rarely looks as good on the tabletop.

I agree with Get to the Chopper. Your guys need another colour or two to make them stand out. Perhaps you could use some coloured-stripes as squad marking here and there. Maybe use a beige or light brown colour for the webbing too.

Otherwise, it looks promising. Keep up the good work!

Yeah I am going for realism, but like I said up there I need to put the red stripe signifying veteran status on his helmet, but I do not have the red now. It will be Scab Red and will be on the front of the helmet, not really any depth now but it will make the white on the helmet look like an H.

So what does everyone think, did the greenstuff armor come out alright? Is everyone still liking the Cadian torso?

This is my first attempt at my Cadian Harker squad, the GS is very rough right now. I like them, they look real hard. Oh yeah or linebackers with large shotguns.

Oh yeah hopefully I will have a Harker up tomorrow.

Hopefully more pics later tonight.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
So yeah I have decided to not use the scout arms at all. Sticking with the Cadian (means even more FW parts . . .) arms and I will be able to use them for Cadians or count them as scouts for the RG side of the army. Threw together a test sergeant today. So this is a few guys I worked on today. They are very rough and only the first layer (of 3 or 4) so they have a long way to go. There is also a FW Thunderbolt pilot I am going to use as an advisor. I have also been writing some fluff. What is the protocol on me starting a new thread about this army where I can set them up with the new game plan and the fluff? Is that a no no?

Well yeah anyway here are some picks:

BTW that is a Rogue Trader plastic from 1987 and is the start of a RT era RG army I am also working towards. Yeah 2 RG armies. Also shortly I am planning on starting my own chapter called the Storm Ravens (Raven Guard + Space Wolves = Storm Ravens) and today I thought of an idea for a Raptors army. That would be 4 RG armies, I love them and I am have had an obsession with MK6 armor for 10 years. Also I want to do an Iron Hands squad.

Yeah I know it has been a while but I ordered from FW a month ago and finally got it in. Spent 3 hours on Friday washing, cleaning and shaving them, that was more osik than it was worth. Did a little GS on Saturday. Finished GS and assembled today. Could not prime do to weather (first precipitation in 3 weeks!) But here is a little update, if you want more pics just let me know.

Well now I have a full 10 man vet squad. Have a lot of extra Elysian bits now, if you are interested.

Nice! The Elysian parts work well with the Cadian torsos. I would suggest that if you want to use the scout shotguns, don't use the attached arms - cut the arms off and use the cadian arms or something - the scout arms are a little big, unless that's what you're going for.

I really, really like that pilot! I can't seem to find him on the FW website though- any chance of a link, or was it a one-off thing?

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!
