I was using it in a particular context; an American wouldn't be offended by something bad happening to London, but a Brit would.

Now there's a bit of generalisation for you. Most non-tabloid-reading Brits can tell the difference between a game and reality

I for one would love to be able to fight mutants in the ruins of St Pauls or the Houses of Parliament. 28 Days Later would have been awesome as an RPG environment

Well Modern Warfare 2 is getting ready for even more internet and media rage, this is a massive spoiler so if you want to enjoy your game spoiler free, for whatever the feth you hold dear do not highlight.

Spoiler:
During the game you will play the scene shown in the trailers where terrorists assault an airport and massacre a lot of civilians. The twist is that you play as the terrorists. Infinity Ward is giving people the option to skip the segment though, thus not forcing you to play through it.

I read about this and to be honest, it doesn't sound that bad to me.
Spoiler:
Modern Warfare 1 had a few very "questionable" scenes which made me look at the game in another light. I'm talking about the a-bomb scene and the "Death from Above" Level. It's more than just a good FPS, it feels more like an anti-war message.
Maybe that's just my own interpretation of the game, but looking back on those scenes in MW2, the "terrorist-level" is certainly an interesting choice to take this concept to a new level.

Still, it's gonna get REALLY ugly, if this scenes reach the German media.

Something tells me that when the media gets its hands onto it they'll forego the spoiler tags.

Something tells me, they're going to make it look like that mission is how the entire game is played and that is was programmed by the US-Military.
It wouldn't be the first time, that the German media talk about how "innocent civilains" are worth "extra points".

I think it's awesome, but look at the overlord 2 game. THe media didn't make too much out of that or Dante's Inferno. But, its justa way for IW to pass the envelope. Much like the ending in the first MW. With the news report saying that Russiawas just testing missiles and that the U.S and other condemned its actions, covering up the entire terrorism thing.

That spoiler sounds awesome. Definately gonna play that level.

The medias only job is to try and offend you enough so you'll listen to their crap and watch the ads. The ads alone should tell you that its a completely biased program full of worthless crap.

The last time I delibrately watched the news was 9/11.

9/11 of what year? In america, 9/11 refers to 9/11/01 and I don't know what it refers to in australia, maybe its two steps up from 7/11.

Is that what they call it now? The "terrorrist thing"?

People compare afghanistan to vietnam and forget that unlike vietnam, someone in afghanistan attacked us first. Yeah, 9/11 really doesn't exist anymore and no one cares about it as much I guess.

On topic though, I cannot wait for this game. I want the prestige edition that comes with night vision goggles.

In some parts of the US.

In others, it's called "GOVERNMENT DID IT!" or "Bush did it for oil!"

But yeah. Back on topic.

How about that SpecOps mode? I look forward to having a good partner orbiting above me in an AC-130 raining death on my foes.

Whatever you do do not bother with the Prestige Edition for the game. The "Night Vision Goggles" are pretty much a pair of toy ones with MW2 stickers. The max range in the dark for them is 50ft. Not worth it if you really want some save up and buy some hunting ones, or if your rich a pair of military grade ones.

...

Do you really have a need for NVGs with an over 50 ft range as a civilian?
(Which is incorrect anyways, since they're good to roughly 150ft. And are surplus from a contractor that makes bog standard kit for the military. Hence--cheap and crummy compared to expensive, ID requiring ones).

But hey. Shiny metal box, art books, and fun shenanigans. I'm all game for it, especially since I'm getting it for 50% off via amazon

Well, the night vision goggles that come with it are about 60 dollars so I figure 60 for the game and 60 for the goggles so its 30 for the art book and the CoD download.
