I agree the Trygon is an added boon - I am however still concerned about enemy armor. Im leaning toward the Barbed Heirdole for some added ranged punch as well as the Crusher Brood. Apoc games are riff with armor.

I completed another 40 figs - 24 stealers and 16 guants of various types. I think in the future I will do blocks of 16, 40 was a bit monotonous. I do like getting the gribblies done quickly though.

The process includes:
base prime
purple on the large plates
dry brush grey on the body (followed by a blue dry brush if its a big bug)
base coat the claws Desert yellow
dry brush the claws Bleach bone
ink the claws Devlan mud
dry brush the claws again with bone/white
dry brush the big body plates with Light pink (its important to go in this sequence as any overage from the claws gets cleaned up here)
dry brush the big body plates with Dark Pink (by using the light pink first, it makes the final Dark Pink dry brush really pop)
Black ink the recesses of the plates
Glue sand on the base
Glue static grass on the base
Dry brush the sand with desert sand/bleach bone
Touch up the edge of the base with black
Spray model with clear gloss coat

Reversing the order of the color pallet on the grey following by the blue and the light pink followed by the dark pink really makes the final colors pop. Im doing a very dry dry-brush of a dark color over a lighter color.

Models still on hand to paint (these I want completed by the end of November):

Trygon (Ill post this one in its phases) - I want to base her with a bunch of tyranid egg sacks in and around her tail - going for the momma bear motif...
6 Meiotic Spores
16 Gaunts
16 Stealers
9 ripper stands

I would like to add the following by the end of December:

2 more boxes of gaunts to complete the Endless Swarm formation
9 more Warriors to complete the Eye of the Hive Formation
2 more Carnies to add the Crusher Brood
1 Tyrant (3 more really but one will be fine).

This last cluster of models I may just wait to see what the new has in store before final configuration.

Thanks Crossbones! Thats the objective! Getting a bunch of figs painted but not sacrificing tooo much in the paint job. I make no claim that the figs are professionally painted - Im bulk painting them. Doing top shelf painting on this number of figs is beyond my level of determination.

The Gargoyle will most likely get a second set of wings to make it more conceivable that he can fly.

Im working a deal to get 2 Barbed Heirodules....

It felt like work more than a hobby to be honest. I have the two more boxes of guants needed to complete the Endless Swarm formation. I wasnt going to do another block of 40 models.... but now that I have them here - I think I have it in me to just get the little buggers done. Then it'll be nothing but big/medium bugs to finish. That'll be much more fun and relaxing through the holidays. Im confident Ill finish before the end of December.

My only hope now is that the new Dex doesnt make the Devourer gun so incredible that I feel the need to do weapon swaps on the little bugs. UGH! For the big bugs, Im prepared for weapon swaps.

Here are some pics of the next batch to be completed - Ill be away this weekend so putting them together will begin next week:

There's 13 Stealers, 30 Hormagaunts, 2 Termagaunts and 14 Spineguants in there. Its all down hill after these guys are done... 2 Carnies, a Tyrant, 9 Warriors, some spores, the Trygon (I cheated a little, getting a head start), and a Barbed Hierodoyle - oh and as many rippers as I feel like doing as well as 12 Gargoyles.

wow! you are a really determined tyranid player! Thats what I like to see: tons of swarm! The colour scheme is great. You should try constructing like the eye or the hive mind of the tyranid brood!

Cool stuff keep it up

I don’t know about it being easy. Lol I find more often than not I wish I was through a pile just to see that there are 6-8 more to go. I keep picking up the models and putting paint on them long after my zeal and excitement have worn off of sitting down to paint.

I am prioritizing models to paint next based on what I need to complete fieldable formations:

By Thanksgiving Nov 26th Batch 1: 46 guants will give me the Endless Swarm
By Dec 13th Batch 2: 9 Warriors Eye of the Hive; 2 Carnies – Crusher Brood; 1 Tyrant and 2 Guard, 1 Trygon – Subterranean Swarm, 1 Barbed Hierodoyle (not needed but too cool to be left out)
By Jan 1st Batch 3: 13 Genestealers, 12 Ripper Swarms, Spores, 12 Gargoyles

Thats all the models I have on hand. I do plan on going passed that. This will bring me to 10,000 points. Id like to get to 12,000. Whatever they come out with thats new will be added - Im just not sure how many models of each.

Those 'nids are a very similar paint colour scheme to mine, only mine are a much darker purple. I'm holding off on my Hive Fleet until the new 'Dex, incase I don't like it.

Awesome army though, I'd hate to fight that many bugs

Ever thought about a display base for all those hundreds? The sight of your entire 10-12K points swarming all over some imperial position (or similar) would certainly be awe-inspiring (and more than a little terrifying). Maybe a plastic Trygon in January?

Im a little concerned but not much that the new Dex will neuter a few things. My biggest concern is if the Fleshborer is the new spine fist as none of my figs use it.

With that said - I still have lots of viable options and Im not opposed to doing weapon swaps if its mandatory.

A display base is being considered - I like the imperial position idea (trenches, a pill box or two.... Im a guard player as well and do have some hull's Im not using...). Im trying to stay focused on completing what I have on hand before heading into another project though.

They will have a display base though! I may display them by formation.

Ill be sure to pick up one of everything that's new unless its crapee (french accent emphasis on the 'ee'). Trygon for sure.

Im confident I can get the Guants and Stealers one by the end of this weekend. Cant wait for the group shot!!

I think I might wait to assemble and paint the Warriors till the Dex comes out. I did successfully get one of the two Barbed Hierodoyles - its in the mail.

I can continue with rippers, a Hive Tyrant, spores and the Trygon after.

When Im complete - I will put together a terrain board and take a photo of the bugs vs IG and Ultras

Wow – that scenary its truly inspiring. The army I have is larger than the one pictured in this battle scene though. I may need an entire game table to do it.

A few constraints I would want to work with though:
Any terrain built for it needs to also be stand alone terrain I can use for table top gaming. I don’t want to build a table soley for this purpose.
All models used in it need to remain on their stands – I don’t want the mdels becoming part of the terrain.

I do like the clouds from the explosions with bits and pieces of bugs in them – Itll give me a reason to use up all the left over pieces.
