So the choices are based on the first 10 people to post in the thread?
So anyone could have nominated anyone as long as you had 10 names?
Shouldn't there have been voting to get to the final 10?
Your post was made at a certain time of day on a certain day without announcement, so many people will have been out or asleep due to dakka's worldwide membership.
I think this may be a flawed popularity contest that ends up voting for the most prolific poster rather than persona or contributions.

I think if this idea gets adopted it should be restarted that way the nominations would be a bit more fair as everyone would know about it, then the nominations would be the top ten users with the highest amount of nominations.

Well, most of the nominatees I have hardly recognized here at Dakka.
This would make voting difficult.
So it should be a bit more specific.

I personally think that the Mod Gods should make a list of people with a mark against them [or less then a number is someone is deserving] and sort out the top ten by the total of their post count+gallery votes+image uploads and then put it to the public to vote the best. Winner gets 3 months as a DCM or equivalent plus a medal of some sort next to their name.
From the mod and/or DCM of the year, have the public vote on the top ten again as determined by the process above and then the winner gets some dakka dice or something and a medal next to their name.

Yep i agree with Chobu , EVERYONE good or bad is what makes up Dakka *2 ,
it wouldnt be the same without us all.
All of us should do what we can in our power to help out , DCM if you have money , tips and tricks if you are skillful , or generally helpful etc etc.

Thanks for the nomination MGS.
As for the contest I to agree with RogueMarket, I feel there is no need for it. Everyone contributes to dakka and that's what makes this a great forum to visit. Choosing the best member is not really needed, we all make up this great site.

F*uck off you pointless little t*wat.
What on earth ? First , i thought OP made this for sake of happy and fun . But if you are worried about missing a spot for the 10 ,
i seriously dont need to be in the list anyways , so you can have it . Because honestly that list is little comfort for me knowing how many people hates me anyways.
Dont use the F word on me , and dont call me a t*wat .

Yeah so it's a bit iffy, but having everyone put in votes for heaps of people is a bit much for one guy to handle, besides this is just a bit of fun, I didn't event think it would spark so much controversy!!

Im going to calmly reply to this even though your accusation is making me angry now .
Im neither snide or insinuating anything . Infact i think lately you have been really helpful with commenting + suggesting on painting / modeling thread .
I actually appreciate your for feed backs because you told me before that you dont really sugarcoat while commenting on paint jobs. And thats exactly what i need to improve my painting.
Thus me not wanting to participate + recommending you to the list = a simple place swap , its like 2 birds with 1 stone .
If something as basic and clear as this deserves you yelling at me , then i dunno .
*edit because im half asleep and grammar was totally not making sense ...

Your post 'you can have my spot if it means that much to you' after I had questioned how this was being set up, was a passive aggressive attack. I really couldn't care less about how popular I am. I never have agreed with contests of who is the most liked, it generates false fame and affords people dispropotionate power and leverage and 'cults of self' on the forum. I am an opinionated curmudgeonly bastard and that is not something that endears to many.
The reason I nominated DDRE is because he is a selfless poster and decent individual, not a glory seeker.
I should not have responded with as much vitriol as I did, none the less I retaliated without the subtlety you employed and will await the mod ruling.
