I agree with the first bit, Yes they are doing a job and deserve some respect no matter how damn annoying they are, for all we know they might be unable to get any other kind of job because of some personal reasons. But that aside, the job they do does intrude into people's lives and most poeple don't want it. If I wanted new windows, I'd ring up a company and invite them round for a quotation. I don't want to be rung every three months by the same company (
I know this because I worked for a windows company whilst at college) asking if i want new windows and asking question after question ignoring me whern I say "I don't want them"
You can just say no, but the majority of sales people are trained to just talk over the top of you and ignore you while trying to corner you into buying, and the majority of people (and I will include the elderly in that bracket) are too polite to just simply hang up, partly because of the fact that some companies have been known to ring back constantly to play pranks and partly because rudeness just isn't the way they work. Many of my co-workers at "Staybrite Windows" did this to people and it was SHAMEFUL and I would take no part of it and even got ridiculed for not joining in, jokes on them as the company went bust I believe.

Reminds me of a time our radiator burst upstairs and we had water leaking. A saleman happened to knock on our door as we were racing round to stop the leak and put buckets out, I answered the door and he started to do the sales talk, to-which I pointed to our ceiling and said, "nows not a good time".
Hah, try and ignore me and keep talking after that Mr Salesman!
