The next update of fluff for you now. Also I've almost finished the 1st 10 man squad of the Nurgle platoon, so hopefully pics tomorrow.

Part 1 - The stage is set

Necrosius looked up as a plague-riddled corpse shuffled into the room, it’s garbled, rotting lips struggled to emit words that its master would hear.
“The Blood Dawn is entering our vicinity, Lord”
Necrosius smiled, knowingly, the predictable lap-dogs of the pathetic ‘Lord of Battles’ had arrived. Ever since Zhufor had come so close to conquering Vraks, Necrosius had begun to see him in a new light. True, he was still a blood-crazed madman but there was always a use for such fools.
“Send a signal, tell the Skulltakers that their brothers await them”. The Zombie nodded slightly, and blundered out of the room.

Attempting to prevent the stench of decay permeating his nasal cavity was proving harder than Zhufor had first thought, by Khorne but the filthy Apostles of Contagion reeked! Still, in order to claim further glory Necrosius must be tamed and allied with the Skulltakers, too much was riding on this gambit for the attempt at peace-keeping to fail. The massive Lord’s blood started to heat at the thought of making peace, he should be decapitating the mongrel servants of the carrion-god. He marched on, his elite bodyguard struggling to keep up.

Governor Strickhelm wandered aimlessly through his quarters, pacing up and down. He paused to peer into the gloom of dusk. Looking out of the large panoramic window set at the peak of Yolurae Bastion he was reminded once again of the disgusting characteristics of Vitruvia. Perpetual gloom permeated the soul after a while, making one feel icy and detatched. The smog from the three hives, Dreacii Primus, Draecii Secundus and Hive Ariminum didn’t help either. The massive bulk of Draecii Primus could just be made out. A soft knock at the door to his private quarters interrupted his thoughts, it was his astropath Norwal Gyar.
“Governor Strickhelm, Sir. I have just received a communiqué from one Inquisitor Portius Alpharius, of the Conclave of Heldon. It appears you are to make ready to receive him, he says he has an urgent job for you and you alone.”
Strickhelm’s pulse quickened, finally, something was happening. The Imperium was finally recognizing the Hero of Tradus, it was about bloody time too. Seventy eight years he’d been stuck looking after this hell-hole, making sure the shipments of deadly TP-III were sent on time to the Departmento Munitorum, ensuirng the Banedax Ore was good enough to be sold and overseeing the induction for the Planetary Defence Force and the Virtuvian Guard Regiment. But no longer!! Strickhelm left to make preparations for this prestigious guest.

Hi, I'm back, been quite ill but finally managed to finish the Squad A of Nurgle platoon.

Some zombified guardsmen:

The HB team:

And a group shot of Squad A:

And I even managed to do some modelling, :gasp: !!

I made 2 Plague mortars with the remnants of some vets back when i was using the guard codex, and rebased the missile launcher team for my Khorne Platoon Command. (They were on two 25mm bases as i wanted to make the most of some spare legs) The idea behind the zombies is that the guardsmen use them to load the mortars and get shot! (Really i needed 6 more guardsmen to make 6 teams and i had 33 zombies to hand)

Plague mortars are nasty, for +15 pts you can make them AP3 and poisoned (3+), but they have to be taken as part of the HQ platoon so can't capture objectives .

More to come soon, and i may have 2 alternative schemes for my PMs that i need some feedback on.

Till next time,

Vitruvian

You should definitely do it, it can be one of the most rewarding armies to model and paint as you can really let yourself go (apart from Chaos daemons of course!!

Got that right, i kinda' took a little "inspiration" from defenstrator's zombie guard blog. I always knew i wanted a few of my regular guard to be slightly plaguified/zombified. Not as far gone as the Plague Zombies, but just about able to aim a lasgun

These look great for the Hellhound would a Daemonic mouth spewing out its noxious miasmic ooze fit the theme of the army.......

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Yeah i might do, tbh though my army is less about the zombies. what exactly would it entail?

Wow, thanks for the nice comment

I've been feeling really ill and i think i may have shingles . Still, it means Nurgle approves!!!!! lol

I need some help on which scheme to pick for my PMs. Heres both schemes and then a comparison shot. The first is catachan green streaked on the armour, mixed up to skull white. Catachan green trim and all washed devlan. also rusted metal.

The second is catachan green armour washed vermin brown and liche purple with a rehighlight of catachan. Trim is shadow grey and black. This is meant to be the Apostles of Contagion scheme from IA:7 with a bit of a tweak.

They are both good schemes. The left seems very pre-heresy inspired, the right dark and corrupt looking.

I think though the lighter scheme wins out for me as the other (and it could be the pic) seems to blot out the details of the fig.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the input, the lighter scheme is indeed inspired by pre-heresy DG and after much deliberation i have decided to go with it. The 2nd scheme was just too dark and i think the pre-heresy will be easier to do on vehicles. Thankyou!

Haha, no!! Its just a crap angle

Ill try, and thankyou! Im doing mixed pantheons because i want a break from painting the same colours (one platoon almost finished and i'm already bored of Nurgle Guard! ) and also i like Khorne and want to get me some berserkers!!

Ill try to get some more progress with pics tonight,

I agree on the lighter scheme. The other would look messy and muddy on the table, even if painted to a high skill level.

Regarding plague marines, the light colors look better, and make the yellow/browns you're using stand out more..

really liking your zombie guard, I might have to steal for my conscripts or penal legion if I ever make those units.

I know, I know. I have been painting, honestly!! Just very slowly I also wanted to say thankyou for your renegades, without whom i probably would never have started traitor guard!!

Disjointed Entity wrote:Get some more paint laid down!

Here you go!

So after finally recovering from shingles and flu (fingers crossed!) i managed to get my arse into gear and finish some guard. I also rebased the tzeentch daemons and repainted the plaguebearers to fit in with my zombified dudes. Here are some pics:

And the final squad of my Nurgle platoon:

So, thats another two things off the list. I'm afraid to say that there won't be much in the way of traitor updates any time soon, as i'm sure you all know the nids are out in Jan so Hive Fleet Goliath is gonna' get a major revamp (yay!!!). I will be painting the Khorne chimera using FWs model masterclass for my gaming clubs annual painting competition. Also, I'm going to be painting daemons for fantasy and will update here (i will be using GF9 bases to allow me to play both systems without needing a complicated basing system.

Cheers,

Vitruvian
