Naah, but seriously i like the book. Defilers kick @ss (well, not in the game, but who cares). The cool models in the army (except the obliterators) is the ones you`re gonna want to field anyway

My death will be avenged millions of rapid fire las bolts, followed by a plethora of heavy weapons artillery and other colorful assortments of death that will send chaos crying back to the warp where they will remain until they come up with another one of their "original" plans

I voted for "who?" at first but then right after I took a look at my chaos codex lol.

I am going to say Very negative on his work. I will not judge the man himself but just the work I have seen him do.
so far the first time I got to see it was when I sold half my chaos army after playing his new chaos codex lol (not kidding)

I thought it was utter trash.

however the guy may be a cool person to talk with not sure never met him but I could care less about his work =]

Neutral, really...the CSM codex is garbage, the Dark Elves book isn't bad...not really sure how to feel about him. Somewhat leaning towards negative since I think his defense for the CSM codex was pretty damn weak, but on the flipside the fact that he even posted that is admirable.

Yeah, that's what I meant, of course. I'm still so annoyed that it's not before. I guess I was thinking about what I wanted while typing what I was complaining about. Posted too quickly without a proof read.

Well, he's a written a novel about Dark Angels, one of the only Dark Angels novels... From what I've read here he's made or help make the Chaos Space Marine codex and when I had a browse through my CSM player friend's codex it was great! People have said they used to be better but I don't really have an opinion on that because I haven't played them. I'm thinking of playing them though . And he responded to all the crap he was getting from people who hated the CSM codex, not with a simple GET A LIFE! but with a fairly long post on his blog.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Whilst I do enjoy reading Gav's fluff (it's fun), his influence on the game of 40K will take many more years to remove.

And he wrote the Chaos Codex. That alone puts him below even Jervis.

It's OK, man. Just six more years and we'll have our old codex back.*

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I voted for a negative opinion. Much like my vote/opinion for Jervis he is a very good idea man. He still cannot write a decent set of rules be he is not as hypocritical about why he changes things.

On a personal note we should have continued with the haircut at the bar all those years ago.

Neutral for me.

He wrote CSM which makes my eyes bleed, yet he did write the new Dark Elves book on the flip side.

Seems he was better in Warhammer than 40K.

Very Negative. He was terrible bordering on attocious when he started at GW. (Reference: Wraith Lord) and has only gotten worse (Reference: Chaos Space Marines).

He was in effect Toumas' final "Eff You" to the community because he(Gav) was chosen by Toumas to be his successor.

Well I'm a card carrying GW fanboy so I don't really feel negatively about anyone who worked for a company that has brought me so much enjoyment for so many years.

Here's a list of the books Gav Thorpe has worked on over the years: (from lexicanium so only the 40k is mentioned)

* Warhammer 40,000 3rd Edition Rulebook
* Warhammer 40,000 4th Edition Rulebook
* Codex: Sisters of Battle (2nd Edition)
* Codex: Catachans (3rd Edition)
* Codex: Imperial Guard (3rd Edition, 1st Codex)
* Codex: Blood Angels (3rd Edition)
* Codex: Dark Angels (3rd Edition)
* Codex: Space Wolves (3rd Edition)
* Codex: Craftworld Eldar (3rd Edition)
* Codex: Daemonhunters (3rd Edition)
* Codex: Space Marines (4th Edition)
* Codex: Tyranids (4th Edition)
* Codex: Chaos Space Marines (4th Edition)
* Imperial Armour (softbound)

I know people don't like the the CSM dex and I didn't really like 4th edition much, but there's still plenty of good stuff there. Codex Daemonhunters, is a really cool book, and he invented the inquisitor game too.

Got to agree with the comments about possessed marines. you only find out what they're good at after they're on the table? what's that about? it's like a step backwards to the randomness of the RT/2nd ed days.

Very neg for me. I've never read his books, but any codex he touches is horrible. Either too good or rank enough to make Nurglings gag. It has been years and I wish I could remember the topic, but one article in the White Dwarf about his most recent codex made him sound like an idiot that never played the game. Terrible.

Positive in my book. He's a good fluff guy (Fluffer?), but I'll admit he's had his hands in developing some bad rules/lists. He does look/sound like a nice gent and would be someone I would like to have a beer with.

well judging on the older CSM Codex and 4th I deffinately see where he shouldnt be within 50 feet of the design room, but his fluff is about GW standard so I'd have to say negative

To be fair to Gav Thorpe, he has worked relatively hard when he was at GW. Now he has moved on to other pastures I think he will continue to be a positive influence. I don't like the I hate him, because he ruined my Codex or did this that or the other type responses.

"You can only please 50% of the people 50% of the time" I think FDR said this, and it's bang on. The fact that most people seem to think he was positive influence shows he has probably done a fairly good job.

Nice bloke, like his fiction and fluff.

Has made some very questionable design decisions and statements over the years.

Since I care more about gameplay I'm going to err on the side of negative.

ok, so everyone is dropping him because of one codex? really? old nidz were good, old marines were good, chaos daemons are good, daemon hunters were pretty good. and C:CSM is not THAT terrible. it is meant to have unit dynamics. sorry there are not 12 landraiders, cheesy rocket units, massive 50 man squads, psyfle-man dread, etc. very positive for me. love all of his books and most of his codices.
