They just covered the boobs up. Because worried parents want to stop teenage boys getting their boob fix by buying 28mm models.

In the subject of New vs Old I will almost always favour the newer miniatures over the older ones. On average, GW seems to be getting it right more often than wrong. Despite that, there's the occasional hit and miss such as when they came out with Logan Grimnar's miniature all those years ago. That is the ugliest miniature in the Space Marine line according to me.
However fondly one holds miniatures like Ezekiel, Ragnar Blackmane, or Dante, one can't help but wonder what they'd possibly come up with if these minis were given the face-lift Marneus Calgar got....

I think the new plaguebearers look too melty or something. I have some of the older ones that look more like naked bloated horned zombies. I prefer that look.

I liked the first Marneus Calgar they did, sitting in the chair with his helmet and cloak on a stand and a Marine standing guard.

Believe it or not, that model was not originally billed as Marneus Calgar. It was just "Imperial Commander".

Ah yes I recall that I only found out many years later that it was supposed to be Calgar because I didn't recall such a description at the time. Did they actually retroactively brand the figure as Marneus Calgar in catalogues or other literature or did they just they copy the two powergloves?

I think that later catalogues did indeed label it as Calgar. Don't know if they decided to give Calgar two PF due to the model or not, tho.
Let's see, '91 catalogue just calls it Lord Macragge. That's the latest entry I see for it.

My Crimson Fists army is mostly RT and 2nd edition models, and I only occasionally add in new figures. It's a lot of fun to track down old models and get good deals in flea markets or eBay. I like mixing in modern models though. It's a really cool aesthetic to have RT era tactical marines, 2nd edition tactical marines, Space Hulk terminators, 4th edition assault marines, and Pedro Kantor leading the force. I think it's fairly fluffy in an undersupplied chapter like the Crimson Fists.

When did the Book of the Astronomican come out?
I don't have it in front of me but I'm fairly sure that it called him Marneus Calgar, Lord Macragge or something along those lines. Of course this wasn't the model, but there was a picture that had the likeness of the Lord Macragge model.

You'd think that's the way they would want it. On a different subject, I bought old edition daemonettes because the new ones don't look Slaaneshi. Also most of the Lizardmen range. I like the Razordons and Temple Guard, in fact that's why I'm starting to collect them, but then you look at the Saurus and Skinks. Seriously in need of an update. And the Cold One Cavalry need an update too. Still nice models but the Cold ones look too cartoony and oofish. How come Dark Elves get good Cold Ones?
