It's only better if you don't mind your FLGS going out of business and leaving you without a central place to gather with other gamers.

I'm tired of people trying to demonize their fellow gamers for shopping smart and saving money.
There are many things you aren't considering here. What if he doesn't have a FLGS for instance, and plays at a club or at home? What if he isn't particularly fond of his FLGS for some reason, maybe the terrain is sub-par, he dislikes the staff, their stock is unimpressive, etc.? Also, it's really easy to blame the gamers for a local store going out of business, but really it's their own fault. The local stores need to come to the realization that they're in direct competition with online retailers, and I, being a consumer, am going to try and save as much money as I possibly can, so if it's cheaper for me to buy online I will. If my FLGS wants my business then perhaps they should offer a competitive discount or some kind of incentive for me to shop there?

Aduro, I *do* have an FLGS, and I only buy from Maelstrom when it's something overpriced, like Stormvermin or Azhag. Honestly, it's the only FLGS down here, and there are more than enough people coming in to get stuff.
Heck, even the staff buy from Maelstrom sometimes. The manager sometimes argues with GW to get prices lowered so it doesn't happen, but he knows its pointless so he isn't going to put out many Stormvermin boxes, same with Blood Knights.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Ah, so it's like a sports car then. I'm just supposed to look at it, since I could never possibly afford to drive one myself.

Careful now... you're just asking for trouble with heretical opinions like that... Believe me, I know...
Let me point out that the high cost of GW items make them a prime target for online discounters since a) the models aren't that special and b) they cost so much that you can save quite a bit by buying online.
If an army costs $400, and I can save 25%, then that's $100 back in my pocket. That's a hard argument to counter.

Personally, I'm quite happy with the Stormvermin pricing, although it does expose a few problems with Blood Knights and Greatswords pricing.
Earlier in this thread someone mentioned weight. The raw material cost is not the sole driver here. It's the moulds and potential sales that drive the price far more. GW will sell more warriors that stormvermin, so they can cover their costs at a lower price than stormvermin. Supply and demand and all that jazz.
I'll be getting mine online from Wayland. Decent discount, and as my club is an affiliate, the club wins too. No FLGS in Basingstoke :(

As it so happens, my FLGS for wargames (as opposed to RPG's) is also an online dealer. And yes, they sell GW stuff for less than GW would probably like them too.

Been playing skaven for a while but always stuck to clan rats, but I think a couple of boxes of storm vermin could be on the cards.
Re local stores, I would rather buy from a local independant, but cash is king so wayland may get my order. If I'm picking upa few bits I go local, if ordering a load, I go on line, simple as that.

Got my stormvermin! Having fought with halbard and shield for real I can say that a shield hung off the left shoulder actually works very well as you can attack and defend quite effectively cavering your vulnerable left rib cage.

Probably terrible pictures, but I got some free time and put 20 together.
You can see on the side image how the shield hangs over the left shoulder covering the ribs.
It looks cumbersome, but in practice works really well as you have some control with your left arm and all the weight is supported on a strap over the body, plus you have both hands free.
Of course technically you can't use a halberd and shield together in the rules, but I figure it this way, you can either use all you strength for the halberd and loose the shield protection, or be more carefull and use both together effectively (+2 save, shield and hand weapon, which they are also equiped with) but loose the strength bonus.
Discuss!

Ooh thanks for the pictures Druidic , i have some questions !
I noticed some of the ranks are facing abit side ways, does that have anything to do with their tails not allowing to rank up if they face straight forward?
Also , how are the clan rats?

Tails aren't too much of a problem to be honest, same for Clanrats (the different heights in Clanrat bodies make it easy).
Just finished building my Screaming Bell, and it looks bitching surrounded by 20 Stormvermin! Just need the other 19....
