After going on games workshop, and seeing the new models

-

Well, I wet myself

P.S., I have found a new hobby shop in my area, called "The Dragon's Den". However they didn't have any 'nid models, besides an old 3rd edition carnifex
on the other hand, they were selling a Fortress o' Redemption! I want to buy it just as an excuse to play DA.

on second glance, it appears they are not selling broodlords any more - gulp!

To be honest, your painting needs some serious work. Work on brush control; you have a lot of messy outlines. Once you can effectively block in the colours you'll need to pick out details, highlight the carapace and wash the flesh to make it more convincingly... fleshy. Finally, you'll need a decent colour scheme... black and grey is not interesting, organic, or exciting.

What I'm seeing now is a brood that's been undercoated black and had some grey hastily slapped on the extremities... undercoating with a spray(and you should be using a spray to speed the undercoating process), that couldn't have taken more than a few minutes.

A visually satisfying army demands practice, care, good technique, and most importantly patience. You can't just throw some paint on there and call it done.

As for your list, though it's fun and easy to play, you're 100% reliant on getting that first turn and being on a small, cover-heavy table. I present to you the following scenarios were you to face my 500pt Imperial Guard list:

-My list is saturated with heavy weapons... most lists that aren't assault-focused will be at this level. If you don't hit my gunline on the first turn you're going to take a LOT of fire, much of which ignores a 5+ armour save.

-I can afford to toss a few units, while you're relying on a list than only contains three squads. Even if you hit my gunline hard the first turn and slaughter them the rest of my troops still have a good chance of taking them.

-Mechanized listss are getting increasingly common in 5th. How are you going to take out vehicles should someone manage to squeeze one in? Even low AVs would give you trouble as you're largely relying on Rending to deal with armour. Between AV12, tank shock and its selection of heavy weapons, even a lowly 65pt Chimera could decimate your army over a couple turns.

1. My goal is not 'eavy metal colors. I'm just trying to get my models finished.
2. I'm getting Badab Black for my models for xmas.
3. The pictures are crap, but if you try hard you can almost see the purple on the armor, and the pink on their tongues.

1. Yes, hastily. I know.
2. Of course I use a spray!
3. You're right, it should have only been a couple of minutes.

You know, I can't help but get the feeling you're basing your criticism on bad photos.

That is why I'm buying more models. Right now all I have to play is tau and space marines. But still, thank you for your constructive critique of my models and strategy!

After looking at the photos again, I realised that you can't see their purple strips, anywhere! Also, I care more about "finishing" than "looking beautiful", as my friend has been griping about their unpainted-ness for weeks!

Goodness... waiting 'till Christmas? If lived anywhere near you I'd buy you a pot of Badab Black right now. It's not THAT expensive.

Anyhoo, I can see the purple in the photos but it's not built up... it's just slapped over the black. Do a couple more coats and highlight it with a purple that's one shade lighter.

For quickie definition on the body, just grab some of that grey and drybrush it on to accentuate the details.

Thank you for the advice! My FLGS doesn't have Badab Black, and it is the only one in 2 hours! (of course there is 9 of the in NYC, but still to far away)

My sympathies. I used to live quite far away from a gaming store.

Once you get a wash, if you still want to get them done VERY quickly...

Paint the whole thing grey, colour claws, armour, tongues and other details, then wash the whole model to bring out details. Very fast, requires minimal time and skill.

I use 2 shades of gray, one as an undercoat. Thanks for the advice, I'll be sure to do it!

Battle Report 1
Two sides square off in the middle of a no-man’s land. On one side is a powerful arsenal of close-combat Tyranids; genestealers, Warriors, and a truly awesome Carnifex. The other side was a hodgepodge of various units, such as the necron lord, two destroyers, an ethereal and his honor guard, a fully outfitted Battlesuit two squads of outfitted Tactical squads, and a large Hammerhead gunship. The Tyranids make the first move, rushing forward, claws bared. The Broodlord and his mighty retinue rush into to Bastion at the middle of the field, and a Warrior armed with a destructive Venom Cannon blasts apart one Space Marine. The armies respond with a massive gunnery, collapsing the Bastion, destroying all of the Broodlord’s retinue, and knocking him down to one wound. Also, 4 genestealers and a Warrior are ripped apart by the submunition system in a railgun, seriously damaging the Tyranid spearhead. In response, the Broodlord and the rest of the genestealer squad rush into close combat, destroying 6 Space Marines, 0along with another one from the Venom Cannon. The Necron Lord creates a veil of Darkness to deep strike him and the squad of space marines in combat directly next to the tyranid-held objective, but it malfunctions! The portal is twisted around, and they vanish from sight. However, the other Space Marine squad destroys the Brood lord, and the mighty leader-beast falls to the dirt. Next the Tyranids rush a hidden full squad of Genestealers into close combat, losing 1 but reducing to the total number of Space Marines to three! Next, the Tau release a massive amount of damage upon the Carnifex, bringing the monster to the ground. The Genestealer completely crush the remaining Space Marines, bringing them to the ground, just as the Ethereal rushes into the Hammerhead in an attempt to disrupt the Tyranid Objective. The Warriors wreck the Hammerhead before it has the chance to move, but even then The Necron lord returns from the time warp, with the remaining Space Marines. The genestealers attempt to kill the Battlesuit, but it was too late. The warriors, and the genestealers, were wiped out, and the Space Marines marched forward. Space Marine win.

I can really tell your paint scheme in this last post, and it looks pretty good. Your pics are still coming out somewhat blurry, but these are much better. I really like the purple and white look you have there. I don't know if it's just me (or if it was intentional even) but the color scheme is similar to the Covenant from the Halo series. All in all, I rather like it.

Kudos!

Great! Glad to see you love genestealers as well. I believe they are one of the best new troop options. I very much like genestealers in the new codex. Not as much as I liked them in the previous codex, but all the same they are awesome. The broodlord got a little bit nerfed by the loss of power weapon attacks, but that is well rectified by the allowance of multiple broodlords as well as some spiffy psychic abilities. Sweeping advance masters, they are.

Anyway, here is a link for you, to help picture taking!

Columbus, Oh

and you can now buy them in squads of up to 20 models.. at 6 troop choices with 20 models each.. you could be looking at 120 Stealers.. at the current point value, vanilla stealers at that level would ALL fit in a 2k army..

Pluz Zoans for anti-tank.. lol..

Also there is a elite slot available for "Ymgarl" Genestealers who can flex their statline.. up to 3 squads up to 10 models each, for 1.5 times the cost of a basic Stealer. So.. IN THEORY, you can have 150 Genestealers in a legal FOC..
