But if they break into your house with a handgun? Good luck getting near enough to use a cricket bat.

You know, I wonder how useful a bow would be for home defense.
I mean, they're easier to get than guns a lot of the time. You can do archery with them too.
I would be unhappy if I was trying to steal someone's stuff and I got an arrow through my chest, that's for sure.

Maybe a wrist bow or crossbow. Standard compound bow would be way to unwieldy in a typical house.

They make me think of the episode of Drew Carey where his boss gets shot in the balls by one.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags. |

Wow, this thread has gone so far off.
I envy the OP. I wish I was getting a new gun. Saving up toward that damn MG-42 is a slow, painful process. Gun show coming up this weekend and I'm damn tempted to say "fudge it" and use the money saved so far for a few rifles.
FFL is good for 5 years.

Im British and i like guns. I think the Yanks stereotype us just as much. Pacifists? Your kidding arent you? Who are the only other nation that like like war so much they seem to tag along for them all?
I did two tours of Iraq. And the only buggers there when we initially invaded in March were the USA and the UK.
Its kinda ridiculous to call the Brits pacifists. I think we like war more than anyone.
Well.. at least i do anyway. Tabletop is less noisy but safer so.. its swings and roundbouts.

On the positive, all this gun talk made me go and procure a nice .22 semi rifle and get it scoped, for the estrogen side of the family. I'll teach GC and a friend of hers on it as I have been called out by SWMBO for neglecting the father duties in that area. Hurray.
