Great log Sersi, I'm uber-excited to see you working on a fantasy army, and the thing is already awesome You've collected some real undead winners together - nice call on the AoW vamp, I was going to use her and convert the topless dark elf sorceress for my own VC when they happened - and I'm very happy to see some GameZone stuff off the Internet, especially in America. What's hilarious though is that their 'blood knights' are in fact cheaper than Dub's own, given what I used to think were ridiculous prices from GZ

The casting is quite impressive so far, with an added benefit being that those metal-tastic GZ figs will be a bit lighter

Good to see you back Sersi! Great progress so far- I know you know how incredible your armies look!
Have you got as far as a basic list, or are you going on what looks cool?

Don't know if you went ahead and got this, but if you did it could be an inducted Undead Ogre Maneater (depending on scale).

As usual sersi LOVE THE WORK!!!!!!!

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Boss_Salvage:

Thanks. Those Gameszone models are great sculpts, but hideous to assemble and fragile too. That's the main reason for casting them in resin, I already have suffered to snapped legs, and a broken banner pole. I finally, got the AOW Vampiress and the Mad Puppet Vampiress, and they are drop dead sexy. I'll get up a pic tomorrow.

CadianXV:

Thanks. I plan on having models for most of the lists entries so, I can run a couple different variants of the VC list. I like for be agressive with my gaming so I'm leaning toward combat vamps. I'll probably be running a Cav heavy and Dragon list; the magic heavy lists seem a bit boring even if they are very effective.

I like the idea of the Undead Ogre Maneater. How would I incorporate it? Using Dog of War maybe? Ogre's cause fear which fits the theme, but they won't benefit for the Undead rule. I guess he could stand in for the Wight King.

The manufacturers and name of the models are below the pictures on the first page.

Sersi, the Ogre Kingdoms book allows certain armies to take Maneaters as a Dogs of War-style unit. Having just checked my copy of the OK boo, he'd take up 2 Rare slots, though.

I do hope that this fascination for the undead doesn't mean the Daemons are falling by the wayside, though?

Hi Guy,

The treads open again...and I've got lots of stuff to show ya...

So, I finally got my Vampiresses'?

And here is a scale shot of the various models:

Oh and I built myself a new paint rack, yeah!

I've been looking for a Banshee to accompany my Cairn Wraiths, and I think I've found her.

I'm not keen on the knives but that's easily fixed I'll just cut off the hands and replace them with Crypt ghoul hands like I did here:

I'll still have the blood on her hands thing though as I like the visual.

Wait, aw...hell, maybe I'll just use a modded Daemonette, instead and save $15. :| I can get a Daemonette head that's already screaming/shrieking, swap in some ghoul hands, and sculpt a dress similar to the above mini pretty easily, even make is more tattered and torn looking.

So, what you all think?

Updates:

Zombies:

Hey these guys look even better than I thought they would. After clipping off the tab on the bottom, used plastic glue to add a 0.5 mm strip of styrene to the bottom of the mini; then positioned them more upright so that they would rank up. As you can see the mods makes them taller than the current Skeletons & Grave Guard. So, not small at all...yeah!

Oh, I also figured out how do add some variety to the zombies. I bought another box of Army of the Dead and a box of Rohan Warriors. The Rohan warriors look most similar to the Dead.

They'll be a simple conversion to make: drill out the eyes with a pin vise, then cut off the nose an carve it out with an x-acto knife. Other that just use the pin vise and knife to tatter and add holes to the garments and your done.

Wight King:

I improvised this guy in about an hour with my bits boxes. He's got an Empire Generals Sword; which makes a great "Sword of Kings". I'll be jazzing him up some more with some head and bells hanging from his saddle. From his waist will be hanging a short sword and dagger, along with an hourglass. Don't mind the bald head he will be getting a crown made out of a loop of wire soon enough.

Black Knights:

Here's where the Black Knights are at the moment. I took a Grave Guard Standard and flipped it sideways to make a flayed banner. I'm still working on their barding but it will involve styrene, modeling chain, metal foil, and Aves. Pics soon!

Other Stuff:

- I also assembled 40 skeletons and 20 Grave Guard, so many tiny pieces...argh.

- I started seaming and cleaning up the steeds for the Blood Knights.

Those "Dead Steeds" are the same scale as the WHF horses except for being more realistically proportioned, and skinny looking. Which works for zombies!

Black Coach:

I finally choose an occupant for the coffin in my black coach. I going with this girl.

Really she's already in the perfect pose. I'll have to remove the headstone and do some relatively minor re-sculpting on her. Then sculpt a some pillows for her to recline on.

I'm going with the crypt seen in this picture.

Its much larger than the official one and should work fine. The coffin will made out of styrene sheet based off this one:

I also go my bits order for those 4 marauder mounts. I have to ideas for them.

1. One, would be to cast them in clear resin with a painted skeletal insert for a more ghostly effect.

2. The other would be to replace the heads with tomb king horse skulls. Then paint the heads bone white, with black bodies. I have some Empire feathers that I could make a bridle and head-dress from.

In either case they would get custom sculpted barding and rigging similar to what I've done here:

This was a test for sculpting the barding for my black knights, its still needs work, and detailing but it proves the concept.

So, what do you all think?

Oh yeah I ordered a bunch of "Christmas Stuff" with the wife's permission, of course. So, on order are:

6x Gameszone - Zombie Wolves
1x Reaper - Necro Dragon
2x Games workshop - Varghulfs

This last purchase might, be of interest to Disciple of Nagash.

This one is to satisfy my perverse obsession with female vampires. My airbrush trigger finger is already twitching in anticipation.

Oh, and one more thing would It be wrong to convert a Varghulf, to re-create this scene in Bram Stoker's Dracula:

Yeah...yeah...I know only and insane person would have three in progress armies. Well anyway this ones alive again as well.

Here's what I have so converted so far: 10 Blood Knights, 15 Black Knights, 1 Wight King (mounted), 4 Carin Wraiths, 1 Tomb Banshee, 1 Vampire Lord (on foot), and 30 Dire Wolves. Also 100 zombies based on the LOTR "Army of the Dead" minis; 20 skeletons. I still need 3 Varghulfs, 10 Fellbats, 1 Zombie Dragon, 40 skeletons, 30 Grave Guards and 20 Ghouls.

Fell Bats:

I've been waiting for these things forever...okay six months:

Yes, finally available... but expensive 4 in a box for $25! Link! Whatever you do don't by them from the Rackham online store. Still they are beautiful...I'll take 12.

Zombie Dragon:

I changed my mind on this model, as I want something closer to the codex artwork, seen here:

So, bought a plastic Fellbeast that is currently receiving my dark attention. Basically, I've gutted it and re-sculpted it with desiccated rotting ribcage. I then sculpted new back legs; because the one's it came with didn't fit the pose I'm going for. I also, broke up the body to make it more sinuous and less static looking. I get some pics of it up this weekend.

I'll want to mount the model on a broken castle wall or tower similar to this.

Zombies: 100X

Finally got a 100 Army of the Dead assembled and converted up into. I use lots of banners and shields. I also made use of all those left over skeleton spears I had lying around. Anyway, they look like and actual undead Army rather than random dead peasants. I need to take some pictures of these, but there a pain to set up and I haven't built their movement trays yet...sigh...

Dire Wolfs:30X

Finally, got thirty of these done. While those Games Zone - Zombie Wolves are pretty, they are an absolute pain to work with. The come cut in half, bilaterally; and require pinning and a lot of re-sculpted fur to get looking right.

Skeletons: (20x)

Now that I have my zombies done, these really bug me. I think I'll convert them into more up right poses.

Character Models:

I'm heavily converting my Reaper Vampire Lord to look more like Vlad in this picture. My other vampires will be modded in costumes similar to those seen here. Lots of wings, spikes and stuff.

Scar:

Thanks!

Ghosty:

Oh I am modifying them, those were before pictures. I won't be doing the bat helm thing on the skeletons or Grave Guard though. I'm combining bits from the skeleton box, and the LOTR Army of the Dead Box. So, that my skeletons and Zombies look more cohesive. It's actually working out fine so far. Using the skulls from the skelten box has helped keep every thing to scale.

Empchild:

That's a very nice model and it definitely fits with the current WF zombie line. But its a bit to plump, and cartoon like for what I have planned here.

Lunahound:

LOTR: Army of the Dead, at 20x to a box there one of the best GW boxes out their. I combine mine with skeleton spears and Empire sword arms for more variety. Since, zombies don't have specified weapons in profile; I just went with the rule of cool.

Deadman54:

Correct! Army of the Dead Box set.

Saintspirit:

I actually didn't end up using the Rohan warrior box, It was simpler to add variety to the ranks via bits order. See my above comment.

HamHamlunchbox:

Naah....for me the undead are a human thing.

Malika2:

I've already started converting a plastic Fellbeast. But, thank you for the suggestion.
