At the end of a game, see if your opponent wants to switch sides and play the scenario again with the opponent's army! Gives you a great idea of whether it's fun or not to play against your cheesy-cheese-puff list, and it's wicked fun to try out different strategies with an army you might never have played with before...

Forgive my ignorance but what is a TM? Tiny Midget? Tasty Melon? Twinkie Muncher?

Making a strong list is fine, its when you try to bend rules to make your army invincible that you'll find your opponents getting up and walking out.

You might try doing what they are doing. Pick 3 or 4 units you love the model or the fluff of, regardless of effectiveness. Then build the rest of your list around that, as efficient as possible, but never drop the initial units.

You aren't picking an army that is sub-par for sub-par sake, and can still optimize without feeling like a gaming bully.

I like this idea. You might also want to try switching your version of 40K occassionally. My gaming club has run HQ arenas and Troops arenas (check my Threads posted for more info on these) recently that were very fun and had a different dynamic to regular 40k play. Also, you might try playing teams - your partner can help temper your WAAC/Powergamer attitude.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

Thanks Spycer. That's what I used to do, then stopped when my flyrant kept getting systematically mown down on turn 2. I suppose I could go back to that, and not worry about building such tough lists. And I do love flying warriors...

Currently exchanging armies with our IG guy. After that who knows what could happen.

Power Gaming Leads to WAAC-style playing.
WAAC-style playing leads to Tournament Gaming.
Tournament Gaming leads to suffering...

The only recourse is to join a PGA tour. No, not a golf tour, abut Power Gamers Annonymous, where members of the Dakka Casual Gaming Mafia will mock you in public until you are so crushed that you give up that evil hate-inducing 'playing to win' attitude that you are so obviously afflicted with. Remember, just like AA, you cannot beat this yourself. You must surrender to a higher power, and Casual Gamers, being gods among men, are this higher power.

Surrender to them.

Oddly, I'm having a similar problem... http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/266351.page

"I drive a big car, cuz I'm a big star. I'll make a big rock-and-roll hit." "I am a big car, and I'm a strip bar. Some call it fake, I call it good-as-it-gets."

I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

If you and your friends are familiar enough with each others' collections, try having your opponent build your army for you, and vice-versa. For added flavour, the owner of the models should pick a "theme" that the opponent should try to abide by when selecting the army.

Try playing a different game at your club if anyone else is up for it. Nothing like a fresh start to reset the "power" bar

Thanks. We did take a time out to do some necromunda and Mordheim for a while. Now we are trying to get a campaign going, but it's not easy since we aren't always available to meet at the same time/days.

Whilst the DCGM is pretty funny, isn't this taking the stereotype a tad too far?

Anywhoo, might I suggest you switch armies with your opponent, just to see what they are up against.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

That's the plan for today. 1k list each with me as IG and him as the great devourer. Should be a fun match up as both lists should be relatively soft.

Yes, we should just leave those two things alone right now.

So, Lukus83, what about your other opponents?

Point 1: The DCGM is designed to be the single most overbearing over the top nonsense I can manage.
Point 2: The catchphrase, "Winning is for losers", is probably one of the most clever things I've accidentally come up with, and fits with the super-ultra-over-the-top nature of the DCGM.
Point 3: I've used the DCGM to compare tournament gamers to the KKK, terrorists, murderers and Hitler. I've already taken it too far.
Point 4: Everyone here knows (or I hope they know) what spirit I write these things in. I very much doubt anyone is taking it to heart.
