I would say so, I don't get any of the viruses people warn about. ABP is awesome.

Its embedded into the ads being served to BOLS. Some ads have it, some don't.

Disable java/javascript so the ad can't make the call it needs in windows machines.

(I'd whore out another OS, but BOLS isn't worth switching OS for. )

Yes, browsers can have fan boys. I work with my brother who convinced my boss we all need to use Firefox and at times it drives me a little insane. Newer add-ons like the built-in youtube ripper are a plus though.

Although it doesn't have plugins, Google's Chrome browser is superior to Firefox. For one thing, it's much faster. For another, it doesn't appear to have these issues with viruses. I've hit BoLS several times in the last few days, and none of my realtime virus scans have been tripped.

I am glad I do not have to worry about that anymore.. since my pc died, i moved to a mac and have not looked back..
i remember feeling dirty after i went to a few porn sites and ended up with some virus.
Now i can view all the porn i want and have no fear of any infections!!!

but i sure do miss playing Dawn of War.

Mac users shouldn't be so smug. Mac's have the worst security of all OS choices. Check out the results of this years PWN2OWN contest - the guy hacked the mac book in under 2 minutes.

Macs only saving grace is that they're such a small part of the market that it's not as worthwhile to spend time developing mac viruses as it is pc viruses.

And then, as you note, there's the complete lack of decent games on Macs too.

If you're running linux, you can recompile your own kernel and remove anything you're worried about though. Well, I can anyway, I don't know about you.

Cute. But that's the reason they give whenever the all-system mags do the rankings and place Linux last, as well as the reason I got when I asked my computer science masters friends when I was looking to get a new computer.

That I cannot explain. My sysadmin friend thinks your computer science masters are full of it and furthermore adds that security through obscurity is a flawed concept.

Which antivirus detects this stuff? I've been on BoLS penty of times and NOD32 didn't pick up anything, but I'm worried that my comp might be infected and not know it.

As much as I love to bash Linux, open source does not equal security holes.

This has gone OT enough now, and BoLS are once again reporting that everything is fine again, so I'm closing this thread for now.
