I mean no offense to anyone when I say this, but I just can't take less then max squads in an ork army seriously. I have suffered the moment of "if I'd just maxed that squad they would have survived / not run away". And yes BW's are a bit pricey, but they grant you more then just a durable transport! They give you a mobile troop/tank smoosher, they crown troops with shocks, they are great LoS blockers, and can potentially split enemy lines so your opponent has to deal with it in the way before he can support the smaller half of his force you just assaulted behind said BW.

Why would you have 6+ armour save orks with a flamer template foot slogging? They will never make it, they need a transport. Never send anything with a poor armour save and template foot slogging. You need them up close where they belong!
Also, battlewagons are better. Looted wagons are naff.

You really dont get the concept of a fun list do you?
Also, if all orks should be in transports you then have a weak unit that has a low model count and a sub par transport that will be popped by small arms fire.
So no, transports for boyz arent really worth it.
Also, if people shouldnt take footslogging boyz, then where the hell did green tide armies come from?
they are pure footslogging armies, and they do well.
Battlewagons are stronger, but attract alot more fire and do not have an option for a skorcha.
Notice how the whole list i posted was focused around flame templates?
If i actually wanted a serious army to use then i would be running a standard cookie cutter list.

@ dash *best darth vader impression* what is thy bidding my master?
I do in fact think tide armies w/ can wall are nifty. My decision for mechanized was for how much I've grown to like the flavor, and the whole not painting 180 shoota boyz thing lol, I'd pull my hair out. You really don't get the concept of tactics do you? How is it fun to have ork burnas running across the board and getting shot to pieces and not getting into combat, or close to the enemy? How is that fun seeing your unit wiped out?
Erm, yeah, transports for boyz are worth it - though we was talking about burnas. Your boyz can only move 6" + run per turn. A trukk can move 18" a battlewagon 12". The transport needs to be popped before even doing damage to the unit inside. While small number of 20 can be easily chipped away, especially as you put no boss poles those orks will be running. Orks belong in combat, so you want them in combat a.s.a.p not spending 3 turns running across the board.
I didn't say people shouldn't be taking a ork foot slogging army did I? I just said burnas on foot isn't a viable tactic. If you're taking a foot slogging army you need a lot more boyz then you wrote in your sample list and killa kanz to make a kan wall. Ork armies on foot are fun, you need a lot of numbers and ranged weapons - not up close flamers as they're a easy target.
When you have 5 battlewagons on the table there isn't enough fire to take them out, position them correctly and you get 3+ cover save and armour 14 at the front. Wagons are open topped, so burnas inside can flamer out without getting shot at - also as its open topped they can assault out of it and light up those burnas in assault
Flamer templates is just the theme. One unit doesn't even have delivery at all :(
Never heard of a cookie cutter, what is one of those?
Though, my entire point about the sample list you gave was that burnas shouldn't be on foot. Also, fun lists can also be tough lists too. Doesn't mean you have to throw tactics and common sense out the window

I'll have to agree with mercer here. While I do love armies to be fluffy and fun, it also must come with a balance to effectiveness. All the neat idea's in the world cease to be fun when you get your teeth kicked in all the time. I never mind losing, I take it as a learning experience, but eventually it would get rather old. My second list is the perfect example. No it may not be the most competitive list, but that doesn't mean that it cannot win. In fact I would see it as having a good chance when properly implementing the strengths it posseses. Orks are an army of X factors more so then any other in the 40k universe. To me it is tempering that with your own skill that makes them so fun and effective. I've never had more fun then actually shouting "WAAAAAAAGH!" At my opponent rather then saying "declaring my waaagh". And ya know, most people who play against ork armies expect an amusing show from us ork players. If you haven't looked at your opponent across the table on your turn 2 as you are about to charge and said in an orkish accent "get ready for a krumpin' ya soft 'umie git" then you have never had as much fun as an ork army can provide.

I love that all template weapon list, obviously it would suck, buuuuuuuuuuuuuut, this is completly overshadowed by the fact that it is awsome, to the max. If you take burnas, defantly put them in a BW. A trukk is just to vulnerable.

that list is just for fun games haha
@aztralwolf
i can't take KFF cuz it'll remove one of the random HQ's and the looted wagon has the "don't press dat" rule which makes this list funnier haha)
you could always change the looted wagons to
3 kannons + 4 crew
3 kannons + 4 crew
haha ) this list has to have a lot of random factors and i like zagstrukk storm boys suck ass but zagstrukk deepstrikes and then gets to assult with 6 S10 I5 attacks, on the same turn, when charging try it then look at your opponents face and then the list was worth it haha ) stating again. not really meant to win, it's more for those people who like gambling

Ehh my game group all play harsh lists lol, I instantly translate into competition, yet I still have fun. Guess I don't build the quirky fun list because the hobby is too expensive for anything other then getting what you need to win, plus a couple models for conversions that you just wanna paint. Quoted for the truth. Hit the nail on the head. Its not worth taking sucky lists because when you lose you want to buy models which actually win games, costing you more money. I like having fun and I like winning. I don't expect to win all the time, but I do have fun every time, and thats using competitive lists.

Aztralwolf and mercer, I like you two.
Also, I give this thread * * * * out of * * * * *.
There will come a day, one day when you *have* all the models you need to be competitive (which is where I sit now), and then when you win tournaments and gain store credit, you can spend it on something fluffy.

No doubt about it dash, my orks will keep growing like a fungus, pun intended, until I can field any type of orkish force. I lost P&Ming them too much not to. But for now my mind is in the "get what you need to put up a nasty fight" set.
I will admit the hobbyist in me wins most of the battles though when it comes to choosing the army, its just after that my competitive nature kicks in and I wanna make the best army I can with that choice. As such I am selling off my guard, the new dex is powerful, but I'm not as into them as I was a few years ago. I'm thinking new nids or daemons come tax return. I love the vibrancy, yet dark and twistedness of the paint schemes available to those 2 armies.
For now though, the WAAAAAGH! must grow. My question is, with all the mech lists running around out there, are tankbusta's a bad idea in a BW? I mean hell you wanna pop transports as fast as you can in the current enviroment. With bomb squigs and shooting they can do 2/turn. Plus boarding plank tank hammer will wreck even LR.
