Eeeeeehhhh, I'm not so sure I'd be worried about it. I know a lot of folks tend to err on the side of caution and firearms make people extra cautious, but I guess I'm skeptical about the danger of a .22 superglued to a mini. Lord knows I've had plenty rattling around junk drawers, the garage, loose in the range bag, etc. I'm sure some poor fool somewhere has had one go off on accident outside of a pistol or banging in it with a rock or something, but I would guess superglued fingers has caused more ER trips. I'm trying to imagine a situation where one pops short of excessive heat.

If you're that worried about it, WD40 is murder on primer if you want to further mitigate chances of ignition.

You can get lead bullets reasonably cheap - just a quick search and I saw 100 for about $12 (which is sort of ironic, as you can buy actual cartridges 550 for $14). Not sure how easy it would be to reload one into a shell without a press. Probably easier to use greenstuff and just sculpt one.

EDIT: Oh heck, I misread it. You're planning on prying and draining the powder and are just worried about the primer left in the casing?! Yeah, not so much. Like I said, if you're really worried, spray it with WD40.

Good point. You can just buy fake bullets or whatever you call them (Blanks?)

What does a squib round have to do with using bullets for modelling purposes?

I keep trying to envision a worst-case-scenario that would make using a bullet dangerous. If people tossing your minis into the fireplace to keep warm, you might have some problems. Maybe some guy using a brick to illustrate the effects of "Tank Shock"?

1-UP - you sire are a frigging riot. And I happen to agree with.

Also, Im sorry to sound so cold, but if some kid gets his hands on his fathers gun, and has a bad accident, Im sorry but thats on the fathers piss poor attempt to lock his weapons up. Not on me for suggesting something. Your a cop, you should know that

Soooo..the easy answer here has been said. Use casings from spent rounds. I mean I like to beat a dead horse now and again as well....but this was wrapped up a while ago. And to the OP, I have been picking up casings from hunters (I work in forestry) for the same idea. I have quite the mismatched collection, I am going to hacksaw the top off for proper length since they are all from rifles. Next set of AOBR boys I come across are getting these strapped to them.

Dont be worried about .22 rounds... me and a friend were BITING the lead out of the top to extract the powder... we were sadly disappointed when about 6 bullets gave us approx. 1/4 a cap full... these are not dangerous at all... even if its 120 degrees out they will not explode in a car.. so unless you like your minis crushed with rocks or thrown in fires these may as well be a solid metal chunk...unless your using 12g rounds for something you don't have enough powder to do any real dammage... and remember...soldiers carry plenty of ammo... rough and hot conditions... and it DOES NOT GO OFF.....

Although Im laughing a bit at how dangerous people are making empty shell casings, I have to disagree with you about the lethality of a live .22 round. Yes they are small, but its still a bullet. Plenty of people are killed by the simple .22 bullet, so making fun of how little the charge is in one, isnt exactly smart.
Unless your one of those people that laugh and swear you can not only outrun a .22 bullet, but can deflect them with your ribs with minimal bruising. I literally know a guy that swears he can do both of those

A bullet is a bullet someone could shoot me in the head with a .45 or a .22 either way Im most likely dead. Rip the powder out and it should be fine but I would never do it myself because I'd some how blow my finger off.

Thats normal , according to:

Yearly Statistics

As each year passes on, a minimum of around 35,000 people die from gun injuries in the Untited States. But those are just the deaths, a little over three times as many people are injured and hospitalized from guns. When you narrow this down to a specific group, of the 35,000 deaths, 85% of those deaths were white males between the age groups of 10 to 34 years old. The most common age in that age group was 19 years old. For the estimated (3 times as much as 35,000deaths) 105,000 gun injuries in a year, 56% of those injuries occur in a home and are reported to be accidental injuries. But of those 105,000 injuries and 56% that occur in homes, 34% of those injuries are with victims 17 years old and younger.

Dont be one of those numbers dakka!

Biting the tops off bullets is stupid.

It's stupid to take live ammunition to a game of toy soldiers.

Either get expended rounds for your Storm Boys or use something else like model rockets or shells from Tamiya or someone.
