Really short on time this week what with sorting out visa stuff.

Just had time to do a bit more on the squat I started the other week, I plan to use him as part of an Inquistor's retinue. Looks like I need to lighten the bag under one of the eyes too.

Just claim he got into a fight in the bar the night before!

Could do that LOL, easier to fix than explain everytime someone asks though!

OT .. what have I just won on ebay? It's a daemon of some kind and ideal for a future project but what was it originally meant to be?

Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been working lots of hours and doing the commute from hell - 6 hours plus each day. Then I managed to get a work visa for a year in Canada so that's taking up most of my spare time now, clearing the house and sorting my affairs so I can head to Vancouver in June!

Anyway in order to pack up the work room I progressed a few projects to help clear the bench (there's a load of guard to clear too..fingers crossed I get some more time:

the demon I won on ebay, his wings are primed and repaired, but I'm not sure if I'll bother finishing him, or just wait until I return.

A month on and a little progress!

I've been packing up the guard to go into storage, so I've only had a chance to finish up a few more Penal Legion guys but no piccies. I've also started a CSM army that will be heading otu with me in June. Here's the first completed miniature: (well 3rd completed one if you count that this has fallen off the table twice and broken just as soon as I get into ready for photographing! :( )





Not sure if I'll keep him on the big base or put him on a 40mm one. I like the bigger base but since he's a CC guy I reckon the bigger base will be detrimental - thoughts anyone? Right now he's not been glued back onto this base since his trip off the table so I'ts an easy swap.

Also did this guy, who needs the base finishing off and some dullcote. Either going to use him for Marbo or in my Inquisitorial Retinue. He's an old IG with a RTB01 Space Marine head. Too bad the photo is poor and you can't see his camo.

Grambo, sorry I'm quite attached to the little guy. If you saw how messed he was when I pulled him out the bits box, made him new feet and repaired the glue melt hole in his belly you'd understand why!

The Penal Legion guys (one more almost done too)

Had my first play with green stuff today, 40Kifying an Ogre to make an Ogryn. Added some pockets, altered the rear seam on the trousers and modified the boots. (The pink in the photos are pieces of pen that I cut up to make the armoured toes. A friend of mine who's a whiz with GS - sculpts a load of cool figs, is going to help with my other Ogryns so this is a a prototype for him to understand what I'm after. I also need to add shoulder pads and webbing straps, then my friend will wrap up the other 4 in no time at all!





I've had another attempt at making ripper guns, I decided I didn't like the modified Heavy Bolter idea. This one needs quite a bit of further work, but you get the idea, drum fed which a tommy-gun style cocking handle on the top - good if the weapon is to be used in either hand.




Decided to move the DP to a 40mm based (will reuse the 60 on my next Sentinel)

so far its looking pretty awesome,i cant believe youve had a fifteen year gap and still come back as sharp as this.i loved seeing the old school minis in particular the old orc(hero quest if im not mistaken).

Shattered Soul: Thanks, yep the heads are true 28mm IIRC, but options are limited if you want a number of baldies!

Thamor: It's just builder's sand pva glued onto the base. I thin the glue with a little water so you just paint in on then dip the model into the sand tub. After that paint the sand granite grey colour, wash that with my floor wax - black paint mix, then dry brush a lighter grey. The lumps of masonary are just bits of sprue painted a drab colour.

shingouki: Thanks, trying hard! To be fair I've done lots of other modelling in the gap so I shouldn't be as bad as I was when I stopped 40K LOL. Yup the ork is from Heroquest. I think I got him in a box of stuff from a mate who had already converted him to 40K. Needless to say by the time I dug him out last year he needed a complete rework.

The red and grey colour scheme is awesome!

Cosmic Pixie: thanks, my only Squat for now, I think I have a few others (Thudd Gun crew) in a box at my mum's old house but can't get to it for a while.

Been racing to get my Chaos guys done before I fly out to Vancouver, these have been done at my bare minimum standard and won't ever be my main army (bases need finishing):

My sculpting friend who's been doing the shoulder pads, boots and straps on my Ogryns has finished the first three, I'm really chuffed with his work! I should point out that the removal of trouser seems and green stuff pockets is my work, and hence why it's nowhere near his standard. The hats are from a 1/35 scale set of Afrika Korps and are only blu-tac'd on at the moment - not sure if I will stick with them though.

No updates for ages, no I haven't died, just moved to a new country and set up my life again. The bad side of this was that I managed to almost get my Chaos marine army finished, only to not be able to fit it in my luggage, so it's now in store back in the UK (along with all my unpainted IG). The one exception to that was my daemon prince who manage to avoid being unpacked from the suitcase and travelled the distance hiding in a shoe in my case!

Anyway, I've acquired a few minis since arriving, some Bloodletters and conversion material for Rough Riders and beastmen, but the only things that have been painted far enough to be worth posting are these:

(The Tau is an experiment (unfinished) I wanted to do as I may start playing Tau, but I wanted to get a feel for painting them).









I realised I didn't post many pics of my CSM before I left - time was short so:

1st page, 2nd to last picture, the ork boy front row on the right is not from 40k...
I would recognize those minis anywhere.

Heroquest.

Old school RPG with cardboard doors and bookshelves, plastic goblins, skeltons, orcs, mummies, zombies and even plastic furniture. Fun game.

In the picture right above the ork boyz, I think even that severed arm on the base of the guy standing next to the squat is chopped from a Heroquest skeleton...could be wrong though.

I too have been using some of those minis to modify and change into 40k worthy troops. I'll post some pics soon. Lets just say though, mine got bit with the genestealer virus...

You are correct re the Orc, he's from HQ, but of course he's a Citadel miniature too, since they did the scultping for Milton Bradley. He used to belong to a friend of mine who converted him for 40k, but by the time I found him again last year after been packed away for over a decade he'd lost the bits my friend had added and had to be re-equipped.

Sadly you only score 1 out of 2 though, the arm is from the old GW Skeleton Horde/Army models, which are still some of my favourite models. That's probably because they were my first GW models way back in December 1989!

I've actually done some more IG modelling!!!!

Here's the start of my conscript beastmen squad, I need to GS up the leg joins and the horn to head joins, but some far it's going well. The running one has the legs from the Gor that has its feet together so much cutting was needed to get them off, and thus there's a fair bit of damage to be puttied over.







Another project on slow burn are my rough riders, the first horse for which I've been testing out with some "stowage" and painting ideas

Your penal legion look like imperfect clones i think it's a good look.

Thanks, I like a pretty uniform look on the IG rank and file as that's how I imagine them, nameless cannon fodder to be removed from the planning table Blackadder style with a dustpan and brush!
