Oh, ok....now I know. I've always enjoyed your batreps on LO. You should also post for this tourney if you have the time.

@GBF: I'm just partial to themed lists. To my way of thinking, grab the a unit in an army and make a themed list around them. I like to bring an army that people will look at and be like "wtf?". The Pain Train is my attempt at making a serious tournament army. I've been playing gimmick lists for a while now.

@BA: It's an interesting matchup, you might have to try it out to see how it goes, but basically on my side the night fight meant that the dreads could do the spotlighting, and the razorbacks could hang behind them shooting lascannons, while remaining hidden. Then add the fact that I had more chances at searchlights than he, and you start to see how Night Fight helps me out.

One of your comments was how meltaguns are immune to night fight. That's very true, but his meltas didn't land till 4, and the ones in the Vendettas couldn't be dropped off without losing both squad and transport next round to the Ironclads. Also moving far enough to dump them in range would have taken away his lascannon round. It was better just to sit back and shoot.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).
