If you want to convert the Tau tanks into a more human oriented flyer you could try taking the Clone Wars drop ships as an example. By moving the Devilfish engines to the very back corners and open up the sides you're changing the aesthetics of the Tau craft enough to differentiate it from the Tau norm. Squaring off some of the curves a little would also change it's aesthetics. (could you replace the front with the Valkyrie front?)

Alternatively, take a Valkyrie, round it out a bit so that it's not so box-like; replace the engines with the intakes from the Devilfish (obviously covering up the existing engines with some sort of cowling) and maybe lose (or shorten) the tail? Possibly even cover up the canopy so it's more Devilfish in appearance. That way you definitely retain a more human feel to the craft, but add in some different technology that could be Tau inspired. Maybe replace the wings with the front struts from the devilfish too so you can have the drones still attached.

I can see both in my head and I don't think either would be *too* difficult, but I'm not doing the best job at describing them at this time of day...
