When I used to play the 'nids I always had issues with my hive tyrant. It was metal with the plastic arms. I finally had glue it in the perfect position when one day it
fell on the floor as scream noooooo! as it hit the floor breaking the arms off and I had the model fully painted too...:(

At my LFGS, people had just started arriving for our weekly meet up on a nice monday meeting. Anyway this one necron bloke starts unpacking his starts un loading his monolith, a squad of destroyers (3 IIRC) and a squad of flayed ones, and this one guy went up to take a look at the rest of his crons in the carry case, and as is the most random things that happen in life, as he bent over, his belt buckle caught on the edge of the table cloth (painting table btw) and as he goes off he pulls the table cloth off and the poor blokes necrons, the destroyers were all snaped form their bases, the monoliths cone top parts fell of and ALL of the flayed ones completyly fell apart...felt so sorry for the bloke

I was playing a game against a child in a FLGS in a sorely misguided attempt to teach about the hobby. It went well until a squad of orks managed to kill his captain, which he had taken a shine to. In a fit of rage, the child managed to break apart an ork boy and promptly DEVOURED it.
The kicker is is that the mother of this would-be tyranid began to yell at me for this. I calmly explained that I Could hardly be held responsible for her son randomly eating miniatures, and also requested that she reimburse me for the Ork. She proceeded to yelll at me for about ten minutes untill the owner of the shop told her to leave. After she did, promising legal action (a threat she never carried through), the owner apologised, and offered me a gift voucher. I declined, as the owner can hardly be held responsible for this women and her chaos spawn child.
The moral of the story is: all children under the age of ten should be kept away from Hobby Shops.

Worst? I saw someone drop a model kit that had taken many many hours to build and was vastly expensive because it was made almost entirely out of brass etch. A ridiculous thing for a company to entirely make a model out of IMO but there you go. It just burst into twisted pieces upon impact with the ground - utterly destroyed. He recovered the bits and actually rebuilt it all over again. I'd have probably thrown it in the bin at that point myself.
One to which I am not a witness but heard about was the demise of a 1/35th WW2 Churchill Bridgelayer. The vehicle was modelled in the "lowering the bridge" position and the bridge and all the mechanism on the vehicle was entirely scratchbuild from plastic card. Well that didn't surivive being dropped down the stairs, another job for the dustpan and brush.

That is one of the funniest, but most horrible stories of miniature carnage I have ever heard of.
Anyway, my worst break was seeing my mom doing the cleaning in my room and making my Avatar of Khaine standing on this rock I had just taken and painted fall to the ground. Worst bit is that my mom said it was my fault for putting him so close to the edge...

last model to put away was my Nightbringer
I turned around for a second

We were setting up a Nids versus Tau game, and just as we rolled for deployment my opponent's sleeve caught on his Broadside's railgun and swung it off the table... smashing it into 10 seperate pieces. We stared at it for a second, but he took in good spirit and packed the pieces up, then played with the Broadside's base.

I've only had minor ones, thank goodness. I had 2 DE warriors stepped on; one will be an easy fix, one needs a new splinter rifle but I have plenty of them. The worst I've had in my archon, who is converted and has a nice evil looking sword. That is metal. And at a horrible angle to pin. I've actually given up on it, I'll use it on some figure that is doing a 'sword vertically against the chest looking badass' pose. I'm looking for a nice plastic sword for my archon which may actually stay on. For the moment he's doing a Captain Hook impersonation (in a fit of whimsy I bent the protruding wire.
For some reason my friends are claiming that they're willing to count it as an agoniser and that I should keep it.

Sybarite Swinging an Agonizer
|
I mentioned this in that 'model molester' thread, but here goes again:
I took a Bloodthirster into GW years ago. I was still relatively new to the hobby, and couldn't get the wings to stick on. I'd heard of pinning, so I asked if a GW employee could show me how it worked. The guy was friendly, and built both wings for me (with pins). Unfortunately, as he went to tend to a person at the cash register, his sleeve caught the 'Thirster's wing and sent it crashing to the (hard, concrete) floor. It smashed into its component parts- I think the only parts left on were one of the head horns.
The guy apologised profusely, but the shop was getting busy at that point so he couldn't help me rebuild it. I don't know if it was a sarcastic comment, but he then said "well, at least you know how to pin now, right?"
Aside from that, I've been relatively lucky and only had minor problems (kneeling on Land Speeders when playing over a floor, and dropping metal models occasionally).

I was playing in a very large Apoc game at the Big Waaagh! this year. THe War on the FLoor.
Teams of about 10 with around 5k per person
Any how I had one of my Teammates not pay attention and knock off a Murroder Destroyer off it's 3"+ high stand and had it crash in to : 2 Gargants, a FW Chaos Warhound , and 2-3 heavily customized Stompas....
Then in to hard concrete floor...
The destroyer burst in to all its components...
Total damage. A knocked loos Head armor on the Chaos Warhound, and the Destroyer was hot glued back together, and it broke right along all it's components seems.... very fortunate , only an Auto cannon actually "broke" which was pinned back to shape...
Guy that did it litterlay lost like 10 lbs ( brown kind) and turned Ghost white... when over to cry in the corner....
I came over to re assure him that all was well , and the damage to the Destroyer was nothing big and in fact my friend fixed it in like 15 minutes , just in time to come back for another strafing run... I was mostly worried about every one Else's stuff not mine...
I think I even may have picts ...

I have seen a Tau Crisis suit EXPLODE! Not break, EXPLODE. There were pieces every where, and anything that could break did. Best part, it fell off the table on its own accorded, no one touched it.
Edit: And SniperJolly can attest to this. I have had two rhinos FLATTEN in the case. He now has two rhinos.

My dad lost a model aeroplane to a small child. He made the mistake of letting the child hold it to get a good look. My dad assumed that by the age of about 10 the child would know that little plastic aeroplane models don't really fly, but within a moment of getting hold of it the kid threw it across the room. He wasn't particularly angry though, just exasperated.

I did not witness it myself but I talked to the guys friend and he says it happened. A friend of mine was at 'Ard Boyz championships this year and he played against a Deamon player. The Deamon player was massacred. This was being held at the Battle Bunker in Chicago.
2nd round the poor guy who was massacred plays his next game, and somehow the table colapsed/ was flipped. The guys entire deamon army was in shambles. He had to miss the third round because his army was unplayable.
So to be excited all month for the Ard Boyz finals, get massacred first round, then to have the table flip and destroy your army to the point where you had to drop out of the tourney would just be an awful experience. I heard the story from my friends who were there and the next day I went to play in a small tournament at the Bunker. Bill Kim was friends with the guy and I had to play him and I asked him if it was true. He said it was.
I dont know the details of how it happened, but an army was destroyed nonetheless.

I was all WTH and he said he deployed them like that because they are looking at something weird. I gave him the evil eye look and said "you mean this?" and removed my hat to reveal my Hot pink, light blue, dark blue and purple hair. Quite scary hair to witness and then all the models in the devestator squad fell out of the building on to the floor without anyone one making any movement. All models broke on impact. My opponent just laughed about it but I came over and looked at the broken guys and said "That's what you get" and laughed.

About a month ago, I had been playing a game when a lil kid, bout eight or nine, came over and started looking at the miniatures that were already killed, I caught him setting them up on another board. He looked a little embarrased, even scared, but I let him. He ended up recreating the battle that was happening on the board I played on, until he accidentaly snapped my Commander in half. He started to apologize, but I didn't really care. It was bound to happen, as I never got around to re gluing his legs.

A lot more reasonable than opening up every suspicious package, which may or may not have a movement sensor attached to a detonator. Nudge the package wrong, open the top, boom. It's a lot safer just to detonate it.
It's a lot wiser to simply not forget your stuff. (: Even so, making sure you have a luggage tag attached might prevent someone from blowing it up -- they might CALL you first to say 'Did you leave this here?'

Not only did it spill and just completely destroy the sorted bitz and such with my regular sorted boyz, but it broke the guns off of my Warboss conversion (Unta) also broke his arm in half, and snapped the bosspole off of Grotnob.
Just so you all know, I punted the cat by his face, across my living room.
