I don't think the Legion are a "Chapter" per se anymore. They actually seem to have more in common with a Chaos Warband than an Astartes Chapter.

No. Lucius can actually die quite easily when you think about it. The requirement for him to come back is his killer has to take pleasure in killing him. If Lucius was ever killed by Necrons or Tyranids (Necrons doing it simply by the will of the Ctan, Tyranids by instinct and the will of the Hive Mind), hell if he was inadvertantly blown up by the colateral damage of a heavy artillery shell, he's dead. Lucius' immortality is much more limiting than you may think. And Primarchs are by no means almost as good as the Emperor. For all intensive purposes, Custodes are more powerful than the Primarchs.

Anyways....

Imperium:
- The Custodes: Each on is a bodyguard that is essentially as strong as a Primarch.
- Grey Knight Grand Masters: Extremely powerful psykers.

Chaos:
- Abaddon: Being blessed by all four Chaos Gods has its perks.
- Ahriman: Sooooooooooo much more powerful in the fluff than the game.

Lucius doesn't really have immortality as a trait of his own, it's just Slaanesh pulling strings to bring her favorite champion back. Kharn is also brought back from death by Khorne (in a more straightforward way than Lucius).

If the Custodes are being counted as Space Marines (they predate the Astartes by a good margin, are created by a different process, are considered a separate order by the Imperium, and have significantly different roles, so I wouldn't consider them space marines any more than I would consider temple assassins or skitarii to be space marines) then the Captain-General of the Custodes is probably the most powerful space marine over all.

Did he?
Our beloved by all daddy?

A super space marine....no.
He can spawn primarchs who spawn space marines.
Makes him superior but not a space marine.

@IvanTih: A Space Marine requires such implants in thier youth, so I would argue that (since the Primarchs were born strong) they are not technically Space Marines. And neither is the Emperor.

BTW, what is different about the process between Custodes and say, Grey Knights, or any other Sm chapter? I would think that (if Custodes do not count) then Grey Knights would be up there.

The Custodes are trained to be the supreme guard of the Emperor. They go through rigorous training that would kill a normal man out of supreme exhaustion. They spend their days infiltrating the Imperial Palace just to get in the mindset of someone who would try to get to the Emperor. I'll try to find a link, but I remember a short story that GW put out about the unification wars where the Emperor and 400 Custodes were able to destroy over 100,000 Orks.

Extra training doesn't make you different from a Space Marine. It just makes you a better Space Marine. So far it looks like Custodes are on par with Grey Knights.

Actually, that's never fully explained. Was he born lik that (via great shaman sacrifice) or did he really have to work on his own body? Does he share the same aspects (and maybe fualts) of a Space Marine? Does he have two hearts? Breathe underwater? IS he unable to shed tears? I don't know, and it's never been mentioned in any detail in the fluff. All that is stressed is that he was a great man and a powerful psyker. And a genius to boot.

Most powerful marine? By TT stats & rules or by fluff?

By stats and rules:
Loyalist - Logan Grimnar ( "The High King" was the tie-breaker for me )
Traitor - Abaddon ( Deamon Princes don´t count, because they are no longer mortal )

By other stuff:
Loyalist - Grey Knight Grand Masters ( Psykers, even more demanding training & selection than normal Astartes, survived huge attrition in anti-Deamon combat )
Traitor - Abaddon ( He is the Arch-Nemesis. The only Chaos Lord that has managed to unite all the disparate factions to Black Crusades several times. That he has not managed to reach Terra after thirteen attempts is an entirely different topic )

This guy eats children and puppies for breakfast, singlehandedly destroys armies and makes Sisters of Battles swoon faster than a Slaanesh Marine unzipping his pants. )

I have seen a picture of what the emperor looks like and he is like a very large primarch, he even has the same "Adeptus astartes" armour, although he does have that strong, blinding glow unlike the primarchs.

Deff to da false Warlord! WWAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as I know, he's the only one for an actual rule for it on the battlefield and the only guy to get a 2+ to hit.

I wouldn't doubt that once the technology was in to make Astartes that the Emprah would've used some of it. If he really does have 'astartes-like armor', then there is the chance he'd need a black carapace. It's also rumored that the Grey Knights use the Gene-Seed of the Emperor, so based on this knowledge, I ask the question, how is Gene-Seed produced? Does he need the bacterial cells introduced into his body to create gene-seed? It's entirely possible that he may have added some of these implants, but I doubt that he has or needed to use all of them (ahem, ahem, BISCOPEA.)
